PSP Outsells Everything in Japan

The PSP sold a lot in Japan over the last week (March 24 - 30). Like, way too many. It sold more than every other console combined including the Wii and DS.

That's 139,000 PSPs vs. 7,000 DS's, 49,000 Wiis, 13,000 PS3's and 2,800 Xbox 360s.

This is all due to the release of Monster Hunter Portable G 2nd, which is probably as Japanese as it sounds. The game has sold over 1 million copies in six days.

Gangbusters.

Although for the entire month of March in Japan the DS and Wii both still outsold the PSP. Wii Fit and Brawl account for the strong Wii sales

I am very happy for Sony right now because of this news report and the fact that Sony is going to win this next generational console war for the 3rd time in a row just like i been saying for a long time now,you feel me?The pimp (Microsoft) can forget about winning a generational console war forever,you feel me?

Who cares about winning a war? It's about what games you get to play.

And Sorry but whatever Sony won the first two times I could cares less. They had no games I wanted to play. Games are what I care about.

PSP has been on rise for me since sony updated. The idea of a PS3 droping play list on to the PSP is great. PSP has had a rocky start, PSP movies were a dumb idea. Sure watching movies on a portable is awesome but buying propriety media you cant really use in your home does not wash. PSP needs a stylus or touch screen to really be competitive. PSP does not offer the gamer a unique playing experiance. I never thought I would hear that a game called Monster Hunter G 2nd would be a console seller. It sounds like something that would be market down 5 days after release.

I like monster hunter and look forward to it coing to the US... I have MHF2 right now... killer game. I figured this release would be huge for the PSP.

Whatcha smokin? The PSP, firstly, is losing against the DS by a mile. It seems to have 1 hit a year compared to the DS', what, maybe...5 (at least).

Also, PSP sales have nothing to do with PS3 sales or winning the "console war". The PS3 is in last and will remain in last for the remainder of it's life span. Look at the library of games compared to the 360 and Wii's. Speaking of the Wii, nice job avoiding mentioning it all together, as it would give your argument no merit.

I don't think it needs a unique playing experience. As long as it offers fun, portable games that's all that matters to gamers.

Even better if Nintendo feels the heat they will make a better DS.

This is a win-win for gamers.

Pretty good numbers. PSP is doing much better than PS3. I give sony props for challenging Nintendo in this market. Pretty ballsy, and it seems to be paying off really well.

I love the DS, but we cant' take away the merits the PSP deserves. I want a PSP with all the DS games available. That would be sweet.

@dbzwig you are a moron. The PS3 last i checked is gaining rapidly on the box. Not to mention that we haven't had one AAA game yet and we are still selling better atm then the 360 did when halo was released. We went from being behind 3:1 to about 3:2 in a span of 4 months. You just wait until AAA titles like GT5 and MGS4 hit in japan and then try talking.

I can't believe you just said that! Yeah, I think the console wars are kinda lame, but are you really saying that since Sony came out with the playstation, they haven't had ANY games you've wanted to play? and you care about games?

Only reason they outsold everyone else is because everyone already owns a Wii / DS
