'Battlefield: Bad Company' Boycott
Posted By: Brian Leahy - Thursday, March 27, 2008 11:35 AM

Battlefield: Bad Company is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but carries with it a somewhat troubling DLC plan. EA and DICE are making certain weapons available for purchase.

Five weapons will be available free through pre-launch promotions (and after the game releases), but another five will only be available through the "Gold Version" or paid DLC.

SarcasticGamer is calling for a boycott of the game and is trying to start a campaign to put a stop to DLC like this.

DLC is great when it's true bonus content like additional multiplayer levels, extra story arcs and locations, or new characters. When we're talking about weapons that even EA admits "do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items" we run into an ideological problem.

EA wants you to buy these weapons to customize your character to your playstyle, but then admits that your money doesn't buy you an advantage. We agree with that aspect, but then question why we're paying for these weapons.

Would you pay for new weapons in a multiplayer game?

SarcasticGamer: BF:BC’s DLC is just plain BS. Boycott this game.

I was interested in this game, up until I heard about this. Don't care now ;)

Actually, I don't see a problem with offering new weapons to people if they don't offer any advantage. I can't see how a weapon can't offer an advantage or disadvantage, though, unless it only has a different look (same damage, range, projectile path, accuracy, but different picture). If it is really just a different look so what. Hell people pay for those stupid dashboard themes, what advantage do you get there?

Now if you are selling an advantage, then that is bull. I paid for the game, I shouldn't be hurt cause I can't afford more.

That is stupid anyone who needs to buy extra guns that give you no advantage deserves to be ript off. I still want to play this game because it looks like it is the only game comming out that could pull me away from COD4. But i will definatly not be buying any new weapons that offer no advantages.

This is bs
They offer you weapons to buy and then they dont give you an advantage
Congratulations EA, your guns have become the new horse armor

Well I played the beta and the graphics and gameplay were simply awesome. If I get around to pay 5 bucks for some new weapons...it's not the end of the world and it won't detract from the gameplay for me. Why don't people get upset when racing games charge money for new vehicles and tracks? Who cares. If you want the stuff you'll but it, if you don't want you won't buy it.

I think an issue is that this is Day 1 DLC. The guns are done and in the game... you just have to buy them to unlock them.

They are holding back content that you should get for your $60.

True DLC should be extra content that was created or finished after the game was released.

Whether or not the DLC weapons give you you an advantage or not is besides the point. This is just EA making an obvious grab at our wallets. That's BS. I was originally interested in this game, and I still am really, but I'm joining this boycott unless EA changes this.

Exactly. If it was something that they worked on after the final product, then you're paying for extra content and that's fine. but if they're saying you have to pay extra to get the complete features of the game, then that's lame.

I support the boycott. Developers always say that the consumers vote, buy buying or not. I say we vote no.

SCREW YOU EA!
I am not paying you 60 bones for half a game!

whats the difference between this and halo making you pay for the extra maps? In halo you have to pay to play DLC on line(well had to) and in this you have to pay to have some cool guns so whats the big deal

I want my weapons that are already there. As a gamer, I have the right to use whatever weapon I choose as long as it is already in the disk.

Jesus Christ, what a bunch of sheep.

"Waaaaaaah!!! EA's releasing guns that are comparable to ones already in-game but they don't give me super stats! I actually have to play the game to unlock the good guns!! EA only wants my money and won't give me anything for it!! WAAAAAAAH!!!"

I am so sick of the BS that gets thrown around just because it's EA doing it. Boycott a game because they're offering guns for sale that DON'T completely screw over players who don't buy them? THIS is getting complaints?

Anyone bother looking into what it would cost you to buy all the DLC offered for Ace Combat 6? Yeah...over 120 bucks but no one says a damn thing because this time it's EA. Hell, they're selling you missions that were supposed to be IN the game at $3.75 PER MISSION and no one's calling them on it.

This is just pure "it's EA so we HAVE to have them" crap. Open your eyes people.
