The MSI GT70 gaming laptop allows anyone to game on the go with Intel's latest core i7 processor, NVIDIA GT 670 GPU and THX certified speakers. Matt Mira and Chris Hardwick review the notebook that starts at $1,500.
What You Need To Know
The GT70 gaming laptop from MSI is a beast at 8.6 lbs.
Visually, it looks less aggressive than previous MSI laptops we've reviewed on the show.
The brushed aluminum is a really nice touch.
The two speakers and down-firing sub put out plenty of sound.
There's also a 17.3" display, which is a pretty good size for gaming.
The resolution of 1920x1080 doesn't seem like a lot in the age of Retina Displays but it still looked good.
The viewing angle is a problem.
The screen has a matte finish so there's no glare, but it really comes down to color temperature and saturation, which really changes when you tilt the screen forward and back.
There are plenty of ports for peripherals: 5 USB ports, including 3 USB 3.0, GB Ethernet, VGA, HDMI and eSATA.
The GT70 configuration that we tested comes with a 2.7 GHz Intel i7 processor and 16 GB of RAM, plus 2 64GB SSDS conveniently configured in Raid 0--all of which is just for the OS and applications.
There's also a 750GB moving hard drive to store all your files.
This configuration makes for faster load times and a boot time of only 26 seconds.
