G4's own Dragonborn, Rob Manuel, tries out the new Xbox Kinect features in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim to teach you how to use them. However, things don't turn up quite well. Find out what happens.

The kinect commands work perfect if you understand the manual and give it a little practice. I'm surprised G4 allowed such a terrible video review, and allowed someone who had no knowledge on the kinect commands.

BTW, your FUS ROH DAH's didnt work because you released the button too early. The same rule applies with or without the kinect... the longer you hold the shout button, the more powerful the shout. Something you would know had you read the manual.

Just goes to show you that Microsoft has a ways to go before they can top Sony or Nintendo. That is a F-A-C-T.

There's a manual for kinect skyrim for a reason. You cant just say random words and expect it to work

Almost every single thing you screamed (which by the way doesn't work nearly as well as speaking normally) didn't work for a pretty simple reason...none of them were valid commands.
This is a list of the actual commands, which, when used properly work a vast majority of the time.

Surprisingly the one feature that you correctly show-cased (shouts using the dragon language) is arguably the most delayed as well as the least frequently working piece of the update.

I would recommend having someone that has played the game with the Kinect integration for more than half an hour because "the feature is novel" do a review. This integration of over 200 new commands requires learning and using the commands in a way that one would use a controller, quickly and decisively.

As skeptical as I was I have both played and enjoyed Skyrim more in the last 8 days than since the games release. Voice integration has removed or at least greatly reduced the 30-50% of game time spent in menus and added a level of play that will set the standard (again) for games in the RPG genre.

While it's accurate that conversations and extraneous noise easily throw off the Kinect a clear speaking voice easily accesses nearly all of the functions (sans dragon language) nearly 100% of the time. The integration brings a deeper level of immersion to game-play that doesn't do well to welcome background noise.

All in all the integration of the Kinect voice sensor has raised the bar and put Skyrim further ahead of the pack than the viral video influx could have ever predicted.

    I give it a 4.5 / 5

You should've probably read the list of commands before recording this video. It is "Quick Items," not Items. It's "Quick Magic," not magic. "Equip Bow," after you assign it. "Quick save." ...Mine is working perfectly!
