Thank the lord, God of War did not win.

Dragon Age's story is far better than Mass Effect

Shooters have to have them all? Come on! ME 1 could barely be called a shooter. You had a gun and that was about as shooter as it got. I'm an RPG fan. Or so I thought. I hated FPS. They lacked story and a need to use your brain. But then I grew up. Shooters are fun. Racing games are fun. Platforming games are fun. Some nail it. Others don't. That's just video games in general. If I wanted fun, reflex testing, edge of your seat action I'd pick up a shooter. If I wanted story I'd play an rpg. I bought ME 1 expecting an average third person shooter. And I was pleasantly surprised. The story was amazing. I became an instant fan. The gameplay itself became repetitive quickly. Halfway through the game I no longer even needed to aim at an enemy to hit it. And if I could play ME 1 and avoid the Mako I would. But the award was for best story. Does ME have the best story ever? I don't know. I haven't played them all. But it's certainly my favorite. So I'm glad it won. And all though this is just about the first ME, I give thanks to bioware for giving me ME 2 and 3. The first two games, that I ve played anyway, that could give me both great story and fun reflex testing gameplay.

I never played God of WAr, except the PS2 demo which I have, but I love the story of Mass Effect.
panoss
mass effect is very bad game

i played the heck out of both games but i love the ending of god of war the mass effect ending made me feel uncomfortable like the felling you get when you get a prostate exam.

Mass effect has a great storyline, but I wouldn't consider it the very best.
The best game ever with the best story is definitely the immortal Deus Ex from 2000.

Im pretty sure that more than half of the people here who are Voting that ME was the Best story, are actually Xbox Fanboy who never played a single game of GOW!!! Im not saying ME is bad but i just know in my soul that more than half of ignorantsaround here have Xbox and NEVER played GOW,Not even the third one wich i can really Say Kicks ME out of the water...especially with that crappy Ending!! Gosh they even had to make a dlc to adress it...

Never played GoW, so, I'm obviously biased, but Mass Effect has got to be my favorite story driven game of all time. Way to go BioWare. Now, go get that prize.

One thing that people seem to be missing is that this was a competition about one game not the game series. Because as much as I love ME it is hard for it to match up to all of Zelda stories and games. Based off of each of the singular games not series ME1 does have a good in depth story to follow and has no ending problems when looking only at the first game and that is what this competition was looking at the one game; not the series.

I'm extremely happy Mass Effect won. It's my favorite game of all time for a reason. The political filled, extremely large scaled story complete with uniquely opinionated characters and revolutionary decision making system makes for a game totally deserving of the title as "The best story ever told".

This has to be the worst list ever. God of war has a terrible story and mass effect ruined its story with the poorly received ending. Personally If your rating story in games you should have compared Japanese games, they actually focus on story.

Every single idiot that posts something about COD winning anything should have there gaming privileges revoked. The stories are all mediocre, the multiplayer never REALLY changes. The games are boring. These two games franchises have created far better stories and gameplay than any COD series. Congrats to these two franchises and to Mass Effect for winning. COD fanboys have become a horrible plague on the REAL gaming community.

Mass Effect definitely deserved the win. The characters are identifiable and fleshed out. The Universe is Massive and full of back story, and although the first games game play was quite repetitive, its story was completely epic.

Mass Effect Trilogy (?) best games ever! Only other trilogy I've played is FEAR (people complained about the 3rd FEAR as well). ME's character driven story along with epic music scores will keep generations of gamers enthralled and enamored with all-things Shepard :)

In all honesty, as much as I love Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid 4 should've got this award.

Mass Effect winning this award is a like a child winning the Special Olympics, it doesn't really mean anything.
A real award however is being inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame.
The Legend of Zelda is the ONLY game to ever receive this award.

25 years later the Mass Effect won't even be remembered, except for the controversy over part 3's ending.
fmf007z
what? Mass Effect was good but 3's ending sucked now GOW 3 was good all the way. You guy don't know a real game if it hit you in the head. smh
