The Canon VIXIA HF G10 camcorder may be all you need to shoot your own summer blockbuster with its full 1080p HD video recording in 24 fps, 10x zoom lens and more. Matt Mira and Kevin Pereira review the camcorder for its official Gadget Pr0n rating.
What You Need To Know
The Canon VIXIA HF G10 camcorder is light and very comfortable to shoot with.
The body itself is a nice textured plastic which feels really good.
There are plenty of inputs and everything is covered with farily solid feeling doors.
The front features the mic input and there are on board stereo microphones that do provide nice channel separation.
The side has the media storage.
The 3.5" viewfinder has touch screen controls but the menu layout is very convoluted.
Sometimes you have to dive 3 levels to find something that should be on top.
That said, the touch screen is very responsive.
There are some genuinely advanced shooting options.
One drawback on the LCD is the battery life, which lasts about 2 hours.
We would invest in a double capacity battery if you decide to buy the camera.
This has a 10x optical zoom and manual focus ring.
The lens is actually great on this and the manual focus ring is very responsive.
You're getting a pretty good depth of field, as well.
The autofocus on here is good.
Color and saturation were really good and the noise levels were great.
We were also really impressed with the low light performance on this.
What separates this from a lot of camcorders is its ability to capture video in true 24p, which gives the appearance of film.
You can flip the switch on the camera from auto to manual to cinema.
If you're into the idea of making your own summer blockbuster, you'll find this mode to be a nice way of achieving the look you wanted but couldn't get before.
