Posted: April 18, 2012
Blair Herter and the Feedback crew discuss used game sales. Publishers would have you believe used game sales are hurting the industry, but retailers like GameStop disagree. Where do you stand on the issue?

my buddy's step-mother makes $68 every hour on the internet. She has been laid off for ten months but last month her income was $17713 just working on the internet for a few hours. Read more on this web site NuttyRich.com

i realy think you guys need to get off the death of the disk train
not every one has super high speed down loads
then there is the fact some are putting in data caps
last but not lest what about 2 years after the game comes out
you cant play it as its no longer on servers
now i can get any PS1 game and play it if i wish

Some games are just not worth $60.

In regards to the pricing of video games I think one huge point was missed. It seems the price was being discussed around what how much content one gets, 6 hour campaign versus 120 hour campaign etc. The major flaw with that thinking is this will create a skewed incentive on how people develop a game for the profitability involved. The cost to make a Darkness 2 versus a Skyrim is definitely there, however as we break down the game genres, the cost of development isn't significantly different. Video games pricing model has not really changed since the original Nintendo, yet the cost of development has certainly increased. Yes there are more people consuming games now then there were but I really felt the feed had a big miss when talking about game pricing and the rationale behind what these new pricing structures could or should look like. Do I think the market is ready for a change in the way we view video games and how they are priced and sold to us, yes I do. However the Feed is adding more uneducated fuel to the fire of consumers on why we pay what we do. What if a game like Skyrim cost a 120 dollars versus say 30 for a game like Darkness 2? We all agree you get more for Skyrim, more time went into not only making the game but continuing to support the game and add on to it after it's release. Or do games like Skyrim go to a subscription model for added patches and content? Currently we pay 60 dollars for a new game, doesn't matter if ti's crap, doesn't matter if it's a 6 hour game or 600 hour game. Because of this flat pricing for these games we are subsidizing the developers to continue to be profitable and to potentially take risks with in IPs etc. Just my two cents but I feel the Feed should really revisit this topic in it's own episode.

You missed two points on the digital copy discussion.
1) The biggest cost to the publisher is not the disc or the shipping but that Gamestop and Walmart want to make 8 or 10 or 12 dollars profit on a game.
2) The main reason that digital is not cheaper is that the retailers would have a fit. While gamestop still has power, how do you think they would react if a studio announced that the new game was selling for $60 at gamestop of $55 online? Let alone your chance of getting into cost-leader Walmart.

NOT EVEN 37 min. long ???!!! You know what, just do the introduction, that stupid 10 word thing and end the episode, if its that much work, i mean COMMON!

Haven't we all bought something used before? Should we stop buying used cars?

Why are the feedbacks so short lately? When Adam was hosting Feedback they were usually around an hour long.

How about the option of "Game companies not trying to exploit more money out of customers"................Oh thats not an option.......darn.

if any home console puts into effect a block for used games i will stop playing video games all together its stupid what if i buy a game and dont like it am i supposed keep it forever no im gonna trade it in or something to get back at least part of what i spent to put a block that no used games can be played would ruin the entire game industry and close thousands of game retailers

Used games can also help out companies, people picking up a used copy of Assassin's Creed they might like it enough to pick up the next one in the series new. Its the same with every series.

When a new game is released I don't search for a used copy because I know GameStop is basically taking money away from publishers and developers, why else do you think they try so hard to sell them used. Everyone should stop buying used games piracy is already hurting the industry and used games are as well. If you really are a fan of a game, or developer, buy only new games so they can continue to make the games we all love.

I also feel it is important to point out that in America we have a lwa that sates that you have the FIRST right of sale on any software you purchase. Hence if they try to lock out your ability to sell a game they are breaking this law. Aside from that what about the UK who has even more strict laws on this subject, how hard would it be for gamers to just buy PAL consoles and PAL games that are unlocked?

Dishonord as a merge of bioshock with anything is a joke, in bioshock you are a MUTANT, you modify your genes. It's more like BloodRayne and Assassin's creed had a (expletive) child. In bloodrayne you take on demons using paranormal powers, oh and she is a Dhampir, assassin.
As to the rumors of used game lock out, we saw how that went with the psp go. Pirates and modders will eventually find a way around whatever it is that blocks the games, and some people in defiance of this will pirate every bit of software made for that console. Myself I care but if they do I will just stick to playing games on pc only, it made my bethsoft experiences actually fun and enjoyable. That and I could seriously live with nothing more than Zelda, Starcraft, and Fallout Games.

Dishonored could never be a merge of bioshock and assassin's creed and here is why, bioshock involves you mutating your genes, yes it has horror aspects, but you modify your genes, If anything it is more like BloodRayne and Assasin's creed had a bastard child. Here is why, Bolth games pit you as an assassin, bloodrayne had MAJOR paranormal elements to it, IE she is a dhampir two you fight demons aside from other enemy types. Rayne did also have unique paranormal powers.
As for them locking out used games, we saw how well that went with the psp Go, pirates and modders will find a way around it if they do, and I know a few that have said that if they lock out used games that they would pirate every piece of software on that platform, albeit I only know of these people in online spaces. Me I don't really care, most games released on console release on pc, and they are better on pc.

The library of PS1 and PS2 games was SO huge and then PS3 puts the restriction on that library, but you CAN download "classics" making you buy a game you may already own. It's not that the PS3 can't play the old games, its just that SONY wants your money AGAIN. Luckily my PS2 still works but I SHOULd be able to play those old games. Then again this is the company that gave us the UMD, the Memory stick pro, and Blu-Ray. They LIKE being proprietary.
Mind you I can only speak about SONY because I own one.
I appreciate that the online experience isn't a pay-for-play like xbox, but then again Playstation home or DCUniverse Online Nickel and Dime you with micro-transations, meant to exploit a kid who has their hands in their parents' pockets.
SONY released the "Slim" PS2 once people started ripping games to the hard drive and why PS3 games always need some kind of "Update" before you even start playing.
And also you can tell me that I can get a very decent picture on my NETFLIX streaming on the PS3 but I CAN'T get a decent adobe flash veiwer on the PS3 browser (without hacks) I can watch .avi files (off a flash drive) and burned DVDs, but I can't play a PS2 game? Come on

I say they shouldn't care because whether it's gamestop or not consumers will find a way to sell and buy used games, there's always Amazon and just selling it in person, consumers will find a way to spend less money on the games, now I agree why do they complain when they are offering exclusives with gamestop on new games they should have had an agreement in the start because they don't make the game fun to keep playing.
