Congratz on the new writing gig. Please keep doing This Week in MMO!The 'Hot Topic' quip gave me a good laugh :)
I've been spared from this drama, because I played ME1, thought it was crap, and never played 2 or 3. It seems like I made the right decision. Well, I knew it was the right decision even back then, but now it's vindicated.
I would hardly call Electronic Arts games as an "experiencing works of art". EA is a repeat offender of such devious business practices; whatever Warhammer Age of Reckoning was supposed to be EA took that MMO head first in to a big pile of swirling fecal slurpee. Its the painting that viewers experience not the frame. EA put business before creativity, and that's where most if not all game developers/publishers mistakenly try to dupe their fans. EA is the Goldman Sachs and Koch Bros in the gaming industry; Bioware not not exist that studio was acquired by EA,
I got one thing to say to the angry ME3 fans "You mad bro??".
at the end credits you forgot to mention: "this show has been brought to you by EA"
Casey's comment about ME3 ending shows that he has no clue what he's talking about. Dude, really, at least play the game a bit, before slamming the fans.
lol at all these fanboys. This ME3 crap has gotten to be worse then the outcry for George Lucas putting out episode 1. Haha /popcorn
Casey you obviously don't understand the fan outcry over ME3. First it will NOT set some "horrible precident". TV shows do this all the time, pilot episodes are released and then the series changed (or scrapped) based on test audiences or network exec decisions. If it never happened in movies, we'd never have Unrated Versions, Extended Versions or Director's Cuts since the writer's "artistic integrity" wouldn't allow them to change or modify their work. Remember CDProjecktRed? When fans complained about The Witcher, they didn't hide behind "artistic integrity" they fixed the game For Free. This is not new, tv/movies have been doing this for decades.Second, Bioware lied about the features of the game. They said there were 16 different endings. False. They said the ending would be affected by our choices. False. They said the finale would be a culmination of all our choices throughout the trilogy. False. They deliberately, knowingly, misled the public about features of their product (ME3). Some of these claims they made as late as Feb 26th, when the game was done and Casey Hudson KNEW what was in the game but he made false claims anways.Bioware used to say that we, the fans, helped make the game. Now they are claiming "artistic integrity" and refusing to budge. The ending is horribly written, full of plot holes and brings no conclusion to the trilogy. This arrogance is very unlike Bioware, hence a lot of fans being upset. This is not a small group of whiney kids either. You don't raise $80k in protest donating to a charity. You don't file BBB and FTC complaints. You DO have an official forum poll that showed 90% wanted the endings fixed. It's ok Casey you're part of the media and seem to be unable to say anything bad about EA. Adam had the same problem. He gets my vote for Understatement of the Year when he said the ME3 ending some fans my find "disappointing".
Let us be real now. You all are supporting EA and BioWare which by most of you are damaging the integrity of the gaming industry. However, no one is posting about THQ. You think its all about you? What about THQ. THQ! When will it end? Think about THQ at the very least before you post.
Casey, I fully support the integrity of art. The ending to Mass Effect 3, however, was slapped together at the last minute, and does not qualify. If a painter runs out of time for your family portrait and doodles in a stick figure of Grandma, that's not art... that's bull crap.I don't think it is reasonable for people to demand that a story end the way that they want it to, but it is completely reasonable for them to demand that it be completed with the care and quality they were led to expect.I think that in this case you made a generalization that, while true in the broad sense, does not apply to this situation. In the process you mocked many of your viewers who are not actually being unreasonable in their call for BioWare to re-address the ending to the game with the same artistry and attention to detail that is evident in the rest of the game. Many, though certainly not all, of the glowing early reviews of the game came from reviewers who had not finished it at the time their reviews were written. As more of them reach the ending and see it for themselves, you can notice a dramatic change in their attitude towards the "new ending" crowd. Perhaps you should take another look at the situation, you might change your mind about the validity of the complaints, too.
I guess just like other 'creepy uncles' our dear Uncle Casey wants us to just take it up the ..... and keep quite about it.I mean for every 1 off the wall, rude, angry, poorly written rant asking for a new ending to be created... there are 10 more calmly written and well explained reason on why ME3 felt like it was sold to the fans with lies and ended on such an un-artistic and poorly made end that many of use just don't feel like we will ever buy another Bioware game. Many games have fallen short of their promises. Pretty much anything made by Peter Malen-phew was a major let down compared to what was promised. The ending of Gears of War was a huge let down compared to the 'Epic' story that was promised. Fans of many games have hated the ending of many of their favorite games... including the final "boss fight" in ME2. What other game has generated as much fervor and attention as ME3? Don't you think that maybe... just maybe... there is more going on then a 'few' players who want a different ending to the game? There is more to the story but from your snide comments, you obviously are not paying attention enough to report on any of it. So just stop and go back to your MMO information like a good look Z list web personality.Casey if you are just trolling for trolling sake and want to generate web hits and ratings... great. Then talk like that on Feedback, create a web show with live feedback, create a debate forum where people can be just as snarky and pompous and sound like a total tool. You know, just like you did on today's MMO Report. If you really feel you are 'voicing' the opinion that needs to be shared, then you really are a horrible journalist and thanks to you and this weeks feedback, I have no unsubscribed to several G4 twitters, facebook, and will not be back on this website for a very long time. After all if all you care about is spouting off the Media Hipster equivalent of the 'so anti-cool it's cool' opinions that aren't based in real facts... then I'm done with you and those other 'professionals' that seem to be believe their opinions are the only ones that matter. Even if those opinions are not based in any real grasping of the truth.Heck, I might just have to resubscribe to DirecTV. After all I no longer care that they don't carry G4.
So rather than stand up for ourselves when we are blatantly lied to, criticize 'art' for the c@%p that it is, and demand that we deserve what was promised due to our devotion to a series (100s of hours of time spent).......we should just bend over and take it up the a$$??? Because "tough sh#t??....Really who is the sheep here?
Oh my gosh, did mass effect rape your childhood or something. People grow up, seriously you're making yourself and everyone who ever held a controller look bad. Just shut up, you are getting what you want but it doesn't change the fact that to get it you pitched a massive cry baby hisfit and slammed your fist like consumerism pigs. SHUT UP ABOUT MASS EFFECT, its sad that there are slaughters going around in the world, children being kidnapped and turned into soldiers, women being beheaded and abused and all you can muster your energy on is whether a fictional blue chick and some frog aliens got CLOSURE how sad are all of you?
For those who are going to continue to post about Mass Effect 3. Please have a PC version of the game - at the very least. If you played it on the XBOX or PS3 ... then you are not with the right crowd. This is the MMO report, while technically they might be some PS3 DCUO people out there, most people here will be the PC players. So be kind to us PC players and talk about the ending of Mass Effect 3 on the PC and how we can mod the ending :) I am awaiting a PC MOD where the PC version of Mass Effect 3 becomes a MMO and has a true ending. NUFF SAID.
dear Caseyi WAS an avid MMOReport fan, i loved everything about your show, the jokes, the funny statments, i loved the reports of new and up in coming new mmo's and i respected everything you said and did.HOWEVER that all changed, for 2 weeks you berated us mass effect players, i am not an "ENTITLED BRAT" i am a 37 year old network engineer, i invested in excess of $300 for the mass effect ultimate collectors edtions of the 3 games.the 3rd game we were all told there will NOT be any A,B or C endings and that all of our choices will effect the outcome of the game, we were also promised that the multiplayer section of the game would not affect anypart of singleplayer this was on top of a multitude of things that ALL of the bioware staff said in a week from the ME3 launch, we even had the owners of bioware saying the same things.when i recived my game on 9th march (this was the uk release date) i had seen lots of posts about the endings and such, i myself ignored them untill i had seen it for myself.i got to the ending of the game and i was disgusted, not only was it an A,B or C ending but also multiplayer HAD to be played to get the Effective Militery Strength upto 100%.your remarks at the beguining of your show makes you look like a spoiled brat, for months you were wanting a betakey to and MMO which you never got and you moaned and complained when you did not get what you wanted.i took your moaning in my stride and i hoped you did get your betakey, now if you did get it good for you at least you got what your moaned and bitched about.WE on the other hand were given over 100 promises for mass effect 3, all of those promises were what we needed, we were told our choices from mass effect and mass effect 2 had critical impact in mass effect 3.after half way through the game i noticed that none of the choices i made in ME1 and ME2 did NOT effect anything in ME3, but after that i noticed that they truly did in some aspects.when we got to the endings they introduced a BRAND NEW charator which is UNHEARD OF in gaming, we then are told no matter the ending we die, the mass relays all explode and well we destroy everything every where reguardless of what we did.in the ME2 DLC "the arrival" it was put in that destroying a mass relay also destroys the solar system as well as all the planets and lifeforms.so at the end of the game we have destroyed everything, and he ending cinimatic made no sense at all, we killed everything and everyone, a ship in FTL which cant be in FTL, the crew exiting the ship with your squadmates who were fighting alongside you.the game has more plotholes than swisscheese.so as for your remarks you have now lost the respect of not only me but by the look of it a vast majority of MMO players.Casey you stepped into an argument which you did not need to enter, you are now acting like IGN and you cannot spell IGNorance without IGN, i will no longer support you as a respected reporter but as a jerk who has sided with people who have ripped us off.i request that you apoligize to the fans of mass effect the fans who are actually CUSTOMERS and recently EA won the "WORST COMPANY IN AMERICA" for various reasons.we were also told that the "from ashes" was not part of the final game YET we had bioware own staff admit that it was part ofthe main game but EA told them to remove it for DLC purposes along with several other things.so i request an apology for your unnessery remarks about the mass effect 3 customers.if not i would hope you are given an internal warning for your remarks, you can only say so much before you step over the line and yet you stepped over it.so you now have these choices:1)- apoligize for your remarks2)- quit G4TV for bringing them into an ongoing protest3)- get fired for bringing down the name of G4TV ro IGN levels of ignorance
When Bioware added two extra squadmates to Mass Effect 2 via DLC, that did not violate the artistic integrity of the work done on the ten squadmates already in the game. If Bioware added more endings to Mass Effect 3 via DLC, it would not violate whatever artistic integrity is already present, or not present, in the existing ending(s). That takes care of *that* argument. Now, on to assessing whether there actually is any artistic merit in the existing ending(s). I argue that there is not. The final scene introduces an entirely new antagonist in the last ten minutes. This character was previously unheralded; there was no build-up to its arrival and your protagonist has no emotional attachments to it (since, as it says, it is not the child whose death Shepard witnessed and who has been present in Shepard's dreams, but an entirely different entity). This character, not your protagonist, then gets to decide the ending. It gives three variants on a single theme. Your protagonist then has to do what it says, without questioning it, even though its logic makes no sense and your protagonist has always been able to challenge such speciousness before. In the last moments of a trilogy with a major theme of making choices and living with their consequences, previous choices are rendered meaningless and future choices are made impossible. I see no artistic merit in such a squandering of all that came before in ME1, ME2 and 99% of ME3. Rather, the ending is a violation of the artistic integrity of the series up to that point. In addition to having no artistic integrity, such an ending has no actual, moral integrity, on two levels. 1) In character, you must choose mind control, eugenics, or genocide; you do not get the option to object that all three are evil, but are forced into committing an atrocity (and, arguably, are rewarded slightly if you take the most evil of those options, i.e. genocide, and have a large enough military force). 2) Out of character, the final scene is exactly what many Bioware representatives claimed it would not be. Casey Hudson said: "It s not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C.....The endings have a lot more sophistication and variety in them. We have a rule in our franchise that there is no canon. You as a player decide what your story is. In fact, this is exactly what we get: an A, B or C ending with no choice when it comes to their many common features, and these common features are Bioware's canon. Or Mike Gamble said: There are many different endings. We wouldn t do it any other way. How could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets?" Yet this is exactly what happened, and Bioware are now defending the bespoke ending they said we'd never have with the artistic integrity argument. When such a profound mistake is made, and when such lies are told, the best thing to do is to remedy the error, not deny it. It would set an excellent precedent, not a poor one. It would also make sense from a business perspective, as showing that Bioware considers the statements it makes pre-release to be binding makes people more likely to believe their pre-release statements for future games. Adding more endings, giving players actual choice, can only be good for gamers and for Bioware.
another EA/Bioware bootlicker, Casey shut the hell up, talking about ME3 fans and calling them whiners for wanting a better gaming experience. stay with mmos losers
This is the MMO report not the Mass Effect 3 ending. Shame on you Casey for bringing the non MMOers in here.
So, basically, you are saying that if I call something art, I can sell an old gameboy I paint "PSP" on, while calling it a PSP, on eBay because it's my artistic vision. Awesome, cause I've got lots of art to sell you. Surely using the word art will defend against any lies I tell, right? And is making demands of your audience part of your "art"? Then allow me to offer an "artistic" opinion.Your comments make you look rude and ignorant. I personally hold EA/Bioware responsible for delivering the content they promised IN THE GAME. They've already tossed aside their perceived integrity to defend their mistakes, insulting their fan base (something you've just acquainted yourself with), and sold an incomplete product and then claimed "artistic integrity" so people who simply accept being deceived (like you) will defend them from being held responsible for the mess they put themselves in.
