    The Wii became massive?
    When did that happen?

My PS3 died over a year ago, I'm not paying to get it fixed when eventually they'll be selling PS3's for $150 or less. I've gone back to gaming on the PC.

Okay. Suxbox starts talking about their next console. Decreasing interest in their current gen console..

This drives the prices on their current console down. Suxbox 360 becomes an impulse buy for people who kind of want to play a few xbox exclusive games that arent available on ps3. People get absorbed into these games and it influences them to buy the suxbox 720 at release instead of the ps 4.

Clearly, starting an open discussion and letting people see what you have in way of your next gen console this far in advance would be a terrible idea! It might make you tons of money in the long run by sniping son fans who previously didn't have money to own both consoles. That would be terrible for Microsoft!.................... ..............wait,

If the playstation 4 and xbox720 aren't talked about this year at E3 then I doubt that they will come out next year. They will annonce the new systems next year but probably wont release them until 2014.

They need to make the new systems backwards compatable because also or I think that they will have problems getting people excited about it. The current gen systems have great games like Gears and Uncharted so making it so people cant play those games would be a mistake on their parts.

I dont want to have to rebuy all my games in like the Jak and Daxter collection or the Sly collection either because I have spent years getting a nice collection of games going and would hate to have to redo the whole collection and waste so much money getting what I already have. They also need to be ready with several decent lauch titles because I bought the playstation 3 just because it was a new system and wanted something better than my PlayStation 2 but I started to regret my choice when no games were coming out and the ones that were coming out were terrible. Im really going to look harder this time at the games they offer at lauch and the future games that will be offered to the systems.

And as for nintendos new system the wii U I dont even know if I will get it for agood while because I can't even remember the last time I turned the wii on to play anything and I havent bought really anything for the virtual console. The wii is probably the one system out the 3 that I am the least excited for and wont care to get right when it comes out. The wii needs to keep a good steady line up of games because they have had only one really good year for hard core games like me.

somehow, i cant see a next gen happening until 2014, and i do not think it will be microsoft or sony, with nintendo being behind in terms of the consoles i figured they would kick off the next gen, but their handheld is currently the best selling so i am probably wrong, who knows? for now i am just going to look forward to the games i see coming out, i will tackle the next gen when they come

    Hey Adam,

I really hope you read this. Personally, I don't want a next generation of consoles. I think the best thing that could happen is that Microsoft and Sony start to develop web based stores like steam and start digitally distributing games on computers. I'm tired of being a PC gamer and half of my friends are on PS3 and the other half are on the 360 and we can't play together. I want one single unit to play games on and companies should focus on games and peripherals. The cost of PC's are dropping, and you can play most games on a standard desktop (maybe not on ultra setting but...).

I'm sick of exclusives for consoles, I'm sick of waiting for patches to Battlefield 3 just because EA wants to release everything at once. I'm tired of companies dividing up resources to make games for different machines. I want good games, not a good console. Who needs a console with blu-ray, internet, and netflix when PC's have all of that.

Like I said I really hope you read this and discuss this one soapbox, maybe I'm thinking about this too simply but please tell me what you think.

They probably need to announce a year out because they have to put the system in the hands of developers to produce that strong line up of release date games (so it's 'leakability' at that point is high).

Just went out, tax refund helped, and finally decided to upgrade from my Xbox 360 Pro to the newest Xbox Slims. Also picked up the 320 GB hard drive because I never have enough hard drive space, (how many times have you said that before), and that is largely related to downloadable content or digital games accumulated from '06. Developers are starting to peak with the optimization of their games now so yeah look towards Xbox 360's successor, its the right thing to do.

I have to agree with Adam on this one. I think with the new wave of new consoles, we will find that both systems will be almost identical except for maybe one or two specs. But what will be the industry's new selling point will be, what will the overall experience offer to the consumer. Which is what Microsoft's strategy was with the 360 since they launched it. Which is also why they've been able to edge themselves ahead of Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft knew that seeling the power of the machine would be pointless to the everyday consumer, and really won't speak to a hefty price tag, like with how Sony has sold the PS2 and PS3. Instead Microsoft, went hard trying to push the overall experience you'll get with xbox live, and everything it has to offer besides just gaming. Which so far has worked for them.

This time around, I think Microsoft will keep with that same trend, of selling the experience and not the Hardware. Almost like how Cable and Satelite companies sell their service instead of the box in which the service is provided through. I think for Nintendo and Sony to really make a big impact with gamers, and raise sales close to Microsoft, they'll have to scrap the idea that the everyday consumer cares about what's under the hood, and what can the machine offer in terms of overall entertainment and gaming. Then the consumer can decide which console they would want, based on which experience will be more catered to the gamer. Something we haven't seen with previous consoles.

He's dead right about Sony. Their exclusive titles and franchises seem to be slowed down dramatically. The Last Guardian is coming, but that's really it as far as noteworthy titles.

I Really don't want new systems, granted the 360 needs to have a blueray but I can live without for now but in this economy, knowing that these systems are gonna be more powerful which means more money, besides the lineup at launch price will play a factor, at least for me. So I guess we have one more year with these consoles, kinda sad but I guess it was inevitable

Most ppl just don't get it, Sony & Microsoft are trying to keep up w/last GEN's unforseen's Champ. Nintendo... Unfortunately Sony last Gen's last place holder will definitely release their prototype in hopes die hard fans buy! Microsoft, last Gen's runner up will be forced to follow suit. Hence Sony & Microsoft commit suicide to PS3 & 360.

The amount of excitement a new console stirs in my soul is probably only on par with the world cup, losing my virginity, and driving a 100+MPH on the highway.

Not smart on MS or sony's part. They wait till next year to announce or release their next console, meanwhile Nintendo gets an early start and grabs a good deal of market share by the time the 720 and ps4 hit the shelves.
