Adam has been playing Syndicate which made him consider the possibility of a bleak, oppressive future run by evil corporations portrayed in many video games.

A Rosencrantz-and-Guildenstern-A re-Dead-esque video game would be a dream come true for me. I always thought it would be cool to be a background guy in an action game where you accidentally guide the hero to their goal or just get caught up in all of the explosions they create.

Maybe such a game starts off with you working in the office the action hero flies a plane through and being the guy that calls an ambulance when the building that the star blows up falls on your bus stop. You start to realize that although the CIA gave this bad enough dude a license to kill, he needs someone to follow him, clean up all his messes and prevent civilians from getting caught up in the crossfire. For example: when the action star mortally wounds the super villain, you're the guy that evacuates the building whose self-destruct sequence is activated and clears the surrounding area. It would be a really cool way of exploring a more mundane flavour of heroism in video games.

While I wanted to comment on the floor shining, that's clearly been taken care of. And I've already commented on the last Stoppard reference he made, so moving on...

Great overall theme of the immersiveness (is that a word?) of worlds. GTA has done it with the modern world, Red Dead has done it in the old West, Skyrim has it in a fantasy world. Why don't we get this in the future, dystopian or otherwise? Great next step for gaming.

Funny that he mentions all the shiny floors. That window behind Adam is crazy reflective. Anyone notice that? O_o

when you have a game world, it is nice to be able to see life from someone else but the hero, but I would have to ask why? is it necessary for the story the game is trying to tell? do you get more enjoyment from acting like a janitor then a hero or would it just be a kind of distraction only the fans of the world would play? If it is something only a limited amount of players would use, would a company spend money working on it.

It's nice to think about it from a art perspective but no I don't want to be the guy cleaning the hallway that was just shot up.

I get what he's saying in his soapbox, but if you really think about it just ask someone today how do they feel when they go to their simple 9-5's. We live in the future that all of these sci-fi writers and movie directors talk so much about, minus the cyborgs and flying cars. Today big corporations have more power and control over the people then the government. We are living in an era where ideas like touch screen technology and smartphonesis almost commonplace, instead of just a cool memorable scene from Minority Report. No, the future isn't as dramatic as what we would see in Blade Runner or an apocalyptic world like Mad Max or anything on that level, but a lot of the things that was just a vision is actually apart of our everyday lives.

Hard to take The Sess seriously any more after the KOA review. I'm not angry, just confused. G4 has an issue with review consistency.

Actually... I've read "Rosencrantz and Gildensturn Are Dead". Weird play. BUT, on that subject of seeing the world through someone else's eyes, that could possibly be a good stealth game. Think about it. Some people high jack a building, holding up several people for ransom, you have to try and get the hell out without being noticed. Kinda like Die Hard, except your the janitor or bar tender, not John McClane.

And yeah, Adam, you do have a good point about everything being just a bit too clean in the future. It is a little bit unnerving to see that.

Maybe we don't see people doing all those mundane tasks because they have become obsolete. Simple jobs like that could be performed by a group of robots during the night shift. We are already not far from that point with Roombas. I'm sure someone, somewhere has a computer controlled floor waxer. It's definitely plausible.

Either that or we keep manual labor and implement Scruffy from Futurama into every game. It's what Mom would want.

your taking what he is saying about the floor polishing to literal hes saying that as an example but not exactly that game with the floors etc...Adam Sess is brilliant in my opinion, these tangints he goes off on with these crazy ideas sometimes may not make sense to some but when they are strange they seem to be that much more amusing and fun to hear. use your imagination is what this was really about i think. thanks adam and i really wish you would come back to the host the feed we like blair but its just not the same

This was one of the best Soapboxes I've seen in a while. And what's this about you having trouble getting a table at a Beverly Hills restaurant? You're Adam Effing Sessler!!! Tell them that next time. Maybe even show up with a few fake Oscars and Emmys falling out of your pockets.

Who cleans the floors? Uh Huhhh, I hope you're just yanking our lariate. You know better than anyone that people play games to get away from minutia of day to day life. Why would we care what the future "feels" like?
