Motorola Admiral Smartphone Review Review

Motorola's Admiral Smartphone is a tough little Blackberry clone with a body made of Gorilla Glass and a 5MP camera. Is it worth the $99 contracted price? Kevin Pereira and Candace Bailey find out!

What You Need To Know

  • The keyboard feels smooth and very responsive.
  • Corning's Gorilla Glass covers the 3.1" screen.
  • Motorola says this is dust resistant, shock resistant, and resistant to solar radiation!
  • The phone itself is roughly the length of an iPhone 4S.
  • The back is a textured rubber that feels really good in your hands.
  • It's super light, but feels very sturdy.
  • The shutter speed on this was very slow, so we often struggled with getting clear pictures, even with bright light.
  • When we did manage to get a still image, they did come out nicely for a 5 mp camera.
  • The video on here was also just ok.  720p video, while not up to par with some of the bigger smartphones, it was certainly serviceable.
  • This phone runs Android's Gingerbread with Motoblur on it. Generally the integration of the touchscreen and qwerty keyboard can feel cumbersome but i thought they pulled it off nicely on here.
  • There's a Snapdragon 2 processor in here along with 512 megs of RAM
  • The screen did experience some of that good old fashioned Android lag. Swiping and scrolling did have the slightest delay.
  • While this phone isn't 4G, we did find speeds when browsing the web and downloading email to be fine.

  • $99 with a contract.

  • 3 Seals of Approval out of 5. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • The form factor is great with a durable feel
  • Overall given it's price and performance, we think it is an excellent choice for Blackberry users looking to make the jump over to Android.
  • We just feel that when you compare it to other smartphones on the market, it is certainly behind in features.
