Certain sequels like Mass Effect 3 and Gears of War 3 really don't deserve to be singled out simply because they are built in. they were designed sequels. for other games, yeah, i can see it.
Social Games are LAME! nuff said.
I think publishers need to be smart about when they release their games. Every year there is a drought during the summer where only about one or two note-worthy games drop. More pubs need to take advantage of this barren window of time. This in turn would lead to us avoiding being swallowed by debt and lack of time to play great games that release in the fall, November specifically. It's smart for them to take advantage of other months of the year. I mean, look at Rockstar. Their new trend is releasing games in the April-May period and it has rewarded them greatly with huge sales because their games stick out among the other obscure games that release window. They need to take advantage of these other months. It would be good for them so that publishers' new unproven titles won't have to complete with the huge blockbusters that release in November, and it would be good for us gamers so we don't have to ponder about which 3 of these 15 big titles that released in the fall to get. For example, there are 6 games on my shelf from last year that I haven't beaten. Had half of those games come out earlier in the year like, I don't know, the SUMMER, I would be on track to play the great games coming out in the next few months. Now I understand development times and release schedules, but there needs to be more thought put into when publishers should release their games. For example: A pub is looking at releasing their new RPG in September. But there are 3 other RPGs coming out that month. Granted, they are completely different games but how will the average consumer be able to see that? I could go on and on but I think everyone gets my point.
I agree with the line of thought about poor marketing approaches and "social" games diluting the gaming revenues for 2011. But I also think consoles have reached a point of saturation. The current version of the xbox and ps have been around for a few years now, and the rebooted counsels (the new slim versions) only appeal to so many people. Those two things plus other factors like the economy and services like Gamfly, without a doubt are contributing to softer sales. All things considered, I would say an 8% decrease is something the industry can live with. With Microsoft's plans to merge the xbox more with their next version of Windows and Sony and Nintendo embracing new online services, I would say counsels have a pretty bright future. The real trick will be for game developers to capitalize on counsels becoming a more important part of the home theater experience and continue to produce quality games worth buying. We laugh and poke fun now at the ability with Kinect to tell our systems to play a movie.... someday my grandchildren will find a box full of these weird rectangular objects with all these buttons on them and wonder how we ever survived without talking to our tvs. Counsels are far from dead, its up to game developers to take advantage of their opportunities and continue to put out games worth playing.
Movies were crap this year and adam try a Jason stastom cut but the beard's fine
The Gaming Companies turned into an Industry and have made consoles mechanics, more profitable than ever with stuff like DLC, payable premium fees (PSN+ and equivalents), but what people think is that there are just too many remakes and sequels instead of NEW and Original games. Since we left the Crisis, all the mediatic propaganda of Austerity and Prudence had an effect and gaming devs aren't risking their investments in new things.ps: "It's not the beard on the outside that counts, it's the beard on the inside" - Epic Action Hank
Why would consoles be dying? The gaming media is just trying to get more hits by spreading doomsaying headlines..
Gaming is getting more mainstream (by this I mean more 'normal') every day... it's the biggest entertainment medium now so why does the media try to get all doomsday when they have no idea what they're talking about? Saying 'consoles are dying' is like saying 'mature movies are doomed!" - since there are so many 3d/Wankfest clone movies coming out of hollywood lately... it doesn't mean good drama/action flicks are done for, it just means it's another new genre getting it's 'new stuff' dues, before becoming another genre to go with the rest.Gaming and Gamers are diverse, so to cater for that we are seeing console/pc gaming (with cloud elements no doubt) catering for 'gamers' and social gaming (which I detest, but that's not the point) looking after the 'casual/non-actual-gamers', with Wii/Tablet gaming treading the middle ground with some hardcore gaming, and some casual/fitness/kids gaming. There's so many different types of gamers now, the industry may trim the fat with some smaller developers, but essentially there's multiple gamer groups to sell to.. and I can't see that changing any time soon. The industry is just diversifying its bonds son. Wu Tang financial style.
(I havnt watched yet, just want to post something beforehand) I think that there will never be a death of home console gaming because there will always be those who like the classic feel like me and will never want to be a PC gamer.
Adam I love your shows. I have used the way you explained Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association to explain its importance to my friends, I recall your soapbox on why video games are violent to talk about M rated content. I find your opinion credible and fairly unbiased. That being said your beard distracts me and makes me think you belong in Skyrim or some other place that is Earth as we know it. Please shave and keep your head shaved as well.
i thought i was the only one who knew movies sucked.everyone else seems to eat them up.
the beard makes you look awesome
We all know the issue. There are games like Gears, MW3, and Skyrim out there that can tide people over for many months. When people buy those games they don't need to buy any other games
Please do not boost NPR on a gaming podcast. In an earlier podcast about gaming review scores, you bashed Herman Cain's 9-9-9 Plan. II'm growing quite sick of the political undertones. I watch this for GAMING talk, not politics. I thought this was G4TV, not CNN. Stick to the gaming.
I want to see a Adam Sessler vs. Casey Schreiner beard-off. But seriously, digging the new look.
Bald with beard is great but, you need to grow and actual beard. Where i the mustache? That's a terrible look. It just looks like your beardline is receding instead of your hairline.
ESA is supporting SOPA. Do not support the ESA unlessl they withdraw their support. Do not support or attend E3 or else you will be supporting SOPA.
Adam looks like a generic evil villain in a bad action movie.
