The Future of Halo with Frank O'Connor
The Halo franchise might've practically invented the shooter, but even with over 40 million copies sold and 3.3 billion online hours logged, it's not slowing down. Adam Sessler hears from 343 Industries' Frank O'Connor on the future of Halo.

all i kno is that when we get some new feature in Halo 4,someone will find a way 2 turn it into something gay, something stupd, something annoying, something that will make something great turn into something hated, whether intended or not. Just like crouching,or verticle turret movement,or kill balls

...or are people trying to rewrite History to conveniently suit them?
I can't believe the description below this video - and people who don't know any better might actually believe it.

Yes, Halo invented the shooter genre for the Xbox console, but in 1997 GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 invented the shooter genre.

A lot of people give Halo Wars crap for being a simple RTS game but it really felt Halo to me. Gotta give it up to Ensemble, they did an amazing job. Just wish the Flood was playable in skirmish! ^^

I don't understand why people are hating on Armor Abilities.

I understood & accepted Bungie's reasoning & decision for going with Armor Abilities over Equipment; it makes total sense, and going from Equipment to Armor Abilities was an organic shift in direction.
I actually prefer Armor Abilities over Equipment.
(Yes, including Armor Lock, even though I barely use it.)

It got real old real fast when you'd make runs for certain Equipment in Halo 3's multiplayer & only wind up getting killed, since the opposing team would use the equipment as bait. (It took time away from actual tactical gameplay)
And if you did manage to get it, (depending on the gametype) you'd get killed shortly after getting it & wouldn't get a chance to use it - it'd just get looted from you. (e.g. Ghost Town, High Ground, & Sandbox)

The only changes in Halo that I have a gripe with are Reticle Bloom & Sword Parrying/Blocking in Reach.
It was fine how it was in the Reach Beta, but adding bloom post-Beta ruined the feel of Halo in gameplay. And Sword Parrying/Blocking should only be done with another Energy Sword, not with bare fists/forearms; its such a cheap escape to block with anything else but an Energy Sword.

However, for those complaining about Armor Lock (& I understand your gripes with it), maybe 343i should instead bring back the Overshield functionality as an Armor Ability, in lieu of Armor Lock's functionality..?

    That's what I want.

Halo: CE and Halo 2 were pivotal games back in the day for, but now I feel like the franchise will be drug out and beaten to death. I remember Halo: CE brought together friends for late night LAN play. Halo 2, aside from massive mods, was some of the best multiplayer I played in '04/'05, and the events preceding the launch of Halo 2 were something of a spectacle! The feelings I had for Halo 3 and all Halo games since have been waning.

Can we put Halo to bed and create another spectacular, new IP, Microsoft?

"Halo 4 right now feels very classic, very true to the original and the best parts of the sequels"

    "M. Bison...YES!!!! YES!!!"

Yeah, Halo is awesome! I would like to see Halo 4 go back to the Halo 3 days. No bloom, or AA's.
I wouldn't mind if the Halo 3 equipment made a come back, that stuff wasn't as annoying. Fire Fight, and forge need to come back for sure; hopefully an urban version of forge world. The flood, and sentinels need a come back. It would be cool if some new allies, and enemies were introduced. I.e. Forerunners as allies, and Precursors as enemies. Also no more major character deaths until Halo 6. One more thing make the troop hog, and pelican available in multi-player if they are in Halo 4.

I think everything that bungie did in reach was an improvement(as all their games are compared to the previous ones)

-I love armor customization, and as ridiculous as it sounds I would like there to be more options: with leg armor, lower arm armor, back/sides armor. I also think it would be cool if these affected game play as well. Maybe if you had lots of armor and your char, he would be a little less agile and so on.

-Health packs don't bother me but i still think its not possible to "heal" yourself in a split second with some pack, I mean the spartans armor is equipped to deal with injuries and such.

-I also like how everyone who plays halo is there very own spartan, not 1 of 1000000 master chief's in armor. The way that they had noble six's data all classified so you could feel like you're noble 6 was really cool.

    - I also think that is would be nice to have first person driving and gunner mechanics in halo. I really how difficult it is to get gunner views to work properly in first person when your platform/vehicle is bouncing around everywhere-but i think it would still be cool. I wold also like to see some more complex controls for vehicles. I love the warthog and i think it would be really cool if it functioned trough manual transmission and of course first person driving.

    - Armor abilities work i think because they're talked about in the books and they function farely realistically. Sprint, combat roll and armor lock are part of a spartans armor/capability and I think should be part of all spartans always. They can run and dive, and they can lock their armor when they have to(they arent stuck to the ground like a magnet and theres no emp afterwards). Jetpack makes sense i guess as an ability to choose and drop shield as well. The two i have problems with are camo and hologram. I didnt realize that humans had reverse engineered covenant cloak armor and I didnt realize that they had developed open and moving holograms that required no base to function. I think radar jammer would be a good one by itself and maybe a flash or smoke permutation. Armor abilities are cool but i think they need to be refined a bit more.

    - Loadouts like COD and BF would be neat as well. I know some people really dislike this idea, but spartans do get to choose what weapons they specialize with and prefer to start with.

    - Snipers need to be more difficult to shoot with or something because they are always overpowered. I always grab snipers but its to easy to win multiple battles with 1 or 2 hit gun. Anyone who argues against this- honestly if you look at montages or AMAZING PLAYS, the sniper is almost always being used, because it simply dominates when you are capable of using it to its ability. Shotguns should be as power full as they are because in reality they arent that powerful. If the M6D pistol should a 50. cal round then it should be almost as powerful as an 8 gauge (kinetically vs shields).

While most of this wont change and halo4 im sure will have many new features. I would love to see a more practical and realistic halo game. In my opinion reach was one step closer in that direction. For those who say halo is not realistic at all- we have no idea what tech we will have in 500-550 years. I think that halo attempts to make realistic-futuristic concepts that make for fun and interesting gameplay and story elements.
