Do not compare it to COD, this campaign had a totally different goal than being a cheesy, hard to follow storyline. It was meant to put you into the boots of a soldier without, well putting boots on. So I suggest rating it on what the game was aiming for, not what you think that it should be.

MW3 seems like a fast paced game that you will get tired of in a few months. BF3 seems like a slightly slower and more complex game that will still be entertaining 2-3 years from now. Worth a 5 star rating in my opinion.

I think the real focus here is whether or not BF3 is intended for SP or MP. Games like CoD seem to offer a more in depth and intriguing story while still offering great multiplayer scenarios. However a game like BF in my opinion is the other way around. It focuses more primarily on MP than SP which is evident in its not so engaging campaigns while multiplayer has an extensive class based structure and even supports 64 players in a battlefield. Whether or not this should effect how this game is rated is debatable. Instead perhaps we should have two sub-genres of FPS games one for single player and one for multiplayer. That being said BF3 is one of the better MP games out there right now.

Seems pretty straightforward...
The media is charged with reviewing the product. EA included a crappy single-player campaign as part of the full package, and it detracted from the overall score. Had there not been a campaign, BF3 might quite possibly have earned a five-star rating. I don't understand why that's so tough for some people to stomach.
