Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception In Depth
Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb go in-depth with our 4-star review of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, loving the game but wondering if two years was enough development time for Naughty Dog to seriously attempt topping their outstanding 5-star Uncharted 2.

I've been playing my early copy of UNCHARTED 3 for the past 4 days, and while it wasn't a major leap from UC2, this game still deserves a 5 out of 5. I don't like the fact that they need to compare it to UC2. The story itself was beyond what UC2 offered, and definitely in my top 5 of game stories. Just play it as a stand alone game, not thinking about prior UCs, and it should score a 5 every time.

I actually went back and looked and looked at the Uncharted 2 review to see what he thought of the multiplayer, and he actually called it "remarkably fun", along with other critics. So NG, being a smart developer, expanded and added Kickbacks and Boosters and whatnot to make it better (which it is, the beta was incredibly fun) now all of a sudden, it's "tacked on" and "forced"... really, Adam? *Facepalm* thats just ridiculous.

Adam sessler, did your wife leave you or something? I know that's out of my place to say something like that but it is definitely out of your place to say that it was "inappropriate" on Sony's part to force this game out. How was it forced? I've seen plenty of games come out two years after their predecessors, in fact most sequels to modern games come out 2 years later. Your truly a ridiculous guy Adam and your no longer credible. Ive been watching xplay since like 2004 and this is the most shameful review you've ever put out. How dare you judge a game solely based off how YOU felt playing it in comparison to its predecessor. I've played uncharted 3's multiplayer and it is amazing and everyone else commenting thinks the same thing. With all that said, I'll end off with this. Adam Sessler, you are an imbecile to the gaming community. F U man!

I believe this Uncharted just the previous Uncharted will have Game of the Year potenial and will be an amazing adventure. When you have developers trying to make trilogies out some of these games, they're going to fall a little short most times. Gears 3 was too short but was where it was inferior to Gears 2. Uncharted 3 may have used a lot of things that worked in Uncharted 2, but you the saying "if it ain't broke..." We're still gonna play it even if it's just Uncharted 2 with a different background so let's just sit back, charge up our controllers, and enjoy the scenery.

What a strange day it is when we can mark a game down for not being perfect. To have such high standards for what is essentially a "game". In truth, nothing is perfect and I feel reviewers are becoming more pretentious with their standards for video games.

So what if it didn't live up to the hype? How is that a problem? Are we judging the game or the expectations people are building for it? When U2 raised the bar, you should have expected a period where other devs catch up so that Uncharted doesn't shine so bright. Marking down U3 for not raising the bar again seems a bit unfair. You can't leave the resposibility of raising the bar to a sole franchise.

I just wish this "it falls short because we've seen it before in previous installments" mentality is still around the next time G4 reviews a Call of Duty or Halo game, and I know I'm not the only one.

Typical G4 crap. Attack Sony. If you listen to these people all the time Sony can't do anything right. So now they think Uncharted 3 was rushed because Sony wanted it out now. If you look back at past games Sony hasn't forced their developers to rush games. If they need more time they delay them as long as they need to.

Come on Adam, you're entitled to your opinion but to make such outragous comments like "money grab" and "ND forced to put out" this year by Sony is unprofessional on your part. Seriously Bro? M$ has the worst record of the big 3 in this type of behaviour with the Halo series and you call out Sony on this. We still do not have The Last Guardian nor Final Fantasy Versus, two huge exclusives! Can you tell Sony to put them out this year too then? Now you're just being defensive...

Multiplayer being "tacked on"? I heard no complaints for Uncharted 2's multiplayer. I wonder if either the multiplayer on U3 became so bad compared to U2 or it's the fact that the G4 staff confessed they barely play multiplayer on the PS3 than they do on the Xbox 360 that they feel multiplayer is an afterthought on the PS3.

If only Naughty Dog were to call out anyone who gives Uncharted 3 a 4 out of 5, a "hater" like Cliffy B did, maybe Uncharted 3 would have got a 5 of of 5. And nobody wants Cliffy B to be angry.

Its because uncharted is a ps3 game, xplay and g4 in general are so ps3 bias. when they reviewed gears 3 they said it was very similar to gears 2, x play stated that you cant change an already great game that much, giving gears 3 a 5/5. So why are they complaining that uncharted 3 isnt that different from 2 when 2 was amazing its just like the gears scenario except uncharted 3 got a lower review score ONLY because its ps3 exclusive.

Why are people getting so bent outta shape about the review?

Personally I disagree with what was said about Uncharted 3 being stuck under Uncharted 2's shadow. What was done in Uncharted 2 was mindblowing and a first in many ways. The problem with Uncharted 3 isn't so much that it's a rehash of what was done in 2, but how can you out do something that was already amazing without being ridiculous? If the plot involved aliens or talking monkeys, sure that would be different, but in the world of Uncharted, it would just be stupid and wouldn't fit in.

Uncharted games are all about that "larger than life" aspect and that grand sense of adventure and danger. Drake is meant to explore and find lost cities and treasures. That's what Uncharted is known for and what it does best. A sequel can never stray too far from a predecessor or else many will cry foul and say it isn't a "true sequel."

Either way, everyone has a differing opinion, and while we may not agree with them all, you gotta appreciate the differences that stem from how one felt about one thing. More than anything, a review is a guideline for making sure you don't waste you time or your money. I love Uncharted, probably my favorite video game franchise, but if this game would have gotten a 2/5 or something like that, I would certainly chew on that before deciding if it was worth shelling out the money for it or not. a 4 isn't bad, and again, it's one of many opinions. Don't crucify someone for doing their job and giving honest feedback. Instead, take it into consideration when you match it up against all the other reviews out there. No one is going to force you to buy/not buy it just because of the score they give it.

So chill people. This game will still be great.

I agree with almost everything you guys said the multiplayer felt a little tacked on in two, the game will probably play to many of the beats that we saw in 2, and it will be a great game. My issue is that you think Naughty dog was limited cause they only had two years to work on it when uncharted 2 came out only two years after drakes fortune. Naughty dog has worked on this time table before and has made amazing games and sure everyone want more time to work on their game but this is a luxury very few are given, let alone it could lead to some second guessing or worse over thinking. I am positive I will enjoy this game as much as I enjoyed uncharted 2. I see your points and agree more time is good but there is such a thing as having too much time.

The multiplayer beta was disappointing after playing the multiplayer for uncharted 2. I agree with what Sessler said about the multiplayer being a last minute "money grab" for uncharted 3, the beta just didn't feel like they put much effort into it. I'm sure that the story is good, just the beta wasn't as good as the multiplayer in the second uncharted. I also don't understand why everyone is telling Adam that he's wrong with his review, it's his opinion of the game and as we all know, opinions aren't wrong, some people just don't agree with them. How about this, after the game is released, you beat it and play an hour or 2 of multiplayer and write your own review, don't tell someone their review is wrong, especially before you play the game they are reviewing yourself. It is kind of hard to make a sequel to a game that was GOTY on almost every gaming site. My point is to play the game before you start being a noob about reviews.

Jesus Christ..............Adam, did you just call uncharted 3 "a money grabber"? WTF is that supposed to mean? But then again, I didn't expect much from people who gave black ops a "perfect 5/5" Look around you. You also said this game lives in Uncharted 2's shadow. So, I have just one question for you! Did you review uncharted 3, based on how good it is, OR did you review it based on uncharted 2(which would be weird) QUIT CONTRADICTING YOURSELF "BRO"!

I respect this review. 4/5 seems spot on. I'll admit that sometimes Xplay doesn't seem to be accurate with their scores, considering that Gears 3 is basically in the same alley as U3, but i think that U3 did in fact deserve a 4/5. It's not a bad game, it's just not nearly as perfect as U2 was.

I played all of 15 minutes of Uncharted 2 multiplayer, so I have opinion on it. Similarly I have not played Uncharted 3 yet, but it is very easy to see Sony pushing for more multiplayer in their exclusives to combat Microsoft with multiplayer juggernaughts like Halo and Gears of War. Unfortunately for Sony pushing an excessive focus on multiplayer on a series whose primary draw is single player is not going to yield the disiered results.

Again, not really having played Uncharted 2 multiplayer I certainly would have heard about its overwhelming appeal in other gaming news outlets. Though it was successful, I do not think it is on par with the likes of Halo.

I own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, when I want a competitive multiplayer experience with a strong online comunity I'll go to Xbox. When I want a compelling single player story based around innovative gameplay, strong characters, and an exciting plot I turn on my PS3 and thats the way it should be.
