iPhone 4S Review

The new iPhone 4S from Apple has finally been released into the wild! Kevin Pereira and Candace Bailey take a close look at the smartphone on Gadget Pr0n with its virtual assistant, Siri, the 8 megapixel camera and Apple's dual core A5 processor.

What You Need To Know

  • The iPhone 4S is almost exactly the same weight as the iPhone 4 and weighs only 3 grams heavier.
  • The screen is this size because Apple engineers want the entire screen to be accessible by your thumb.
  • With the 8 megapixel camera, the images look sharp and clear.
  • Even at night, we found little issues with noise.
  • The aperture is now bigger at F2.4 versus the old F2.8.
  • The camera also shoots 1080p video at 30 fps, and we had no trouble finding auto focus while filming.
  • The iPhone 4S can truly replace your point and shoot cameras.
  • The dual core A5 processor was as fast as we hoped.
  • The processor cores in the phone run at 800MHz, which makes it noticeably faster than the iPhone 4.
  • Browsing the web was faster, too and even on the same Wi-fi signal, the 4S consistently beat the 4.
  • Apple is really proud of Siri, the iPhone 4S's built in digital assistant.
  • What sets this voice command system apart from other smartphones is the way you talk to it.
  • You don't have to learn specific commands to get the iPhone 4S to do things.
  • When Siri works, it is truly amazing and that's about 65-75% of the time.

  • $199 with a contract from Sprint, AT&T or Verizon Wireless.

  • 4 Seals of Approval out of 5. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • This is the best iPhone yet.
  • Siri, when it works, is amazing and the potential there is hard to ignore.
  • The camera is also something that can actually replace your point and shoot.
  • If you already have an iPhone and it's older than a iPhone 4, getting this phone is a no brainer.
  • If you already have an iPhone 4, you just have to ask yourself on how much you want Siri.

I was using Siri on my iPhone 4 for the last year, it was an app in the App Store.
The fact that Apple took it away and severed connection to the servers is complete BS. I miss my Siri, but not enough to upgrade to a 4S.

The old Siri wasn't ingrained at a system level like this new version but she was VERY helpful when out traveling and not knowing a region.

I don't like that they keep calling this a BETA. She has been around for a LOOOOONG time.

the S in the iPhone 4S is most likely for Siri, but its not something im excited about when the other companies are making better smartphones than apple is right now, some of Androids older smartphones are far more superior than the iPhone 4s is

I am shocked by it not getting 5/5. Now, I am totally rethinking buying one and waiting for the iPhone 5. Siri was also a lot worse on air than I have seen in videos. This leads me to think people are splicing together her "greatest hits" and this really is just a pay Beta like K.P. said. Good review.

No interest in this phone, but a duo-core with a vastly superior graphics chip is not a "marginal" upgrade.

It isn't fair to say that the innards of the Galaxy SII are just "marginal" improvements over its predecessor, is it?
