I liked Gears and Gears 2, they were both good games,so I got Gears 3 thinking that it would be more Gears 2, and that was fine with me; but the minute I gained control and started shooting I could feel the improvement, and at that same time my friend who I was playing Co-Op with said " Wow, this game feels so much smoother and precise ". The next 12 or so hours of the campaign just kept getting better, from the settings to the enemies. While I liked Gears of War before, but wasn't blown-away by it, I was blown-away by Gears 3. While I never thought I would think this, sitting on the couch with 50"'s of HD Gears 3 and 100's of watts of 5.2 are one of the best gaming experiences I have had.
GOW3 is killer. one of the best games i ever played. i say the controls are great, you almost never get things right the first time unless you just suck. and this didn't. the story is awesome and realistic and a epic finisher, you just want to play to the end, and that is important for game story.sum it up awesome game.
Seriously, Adam? I respect you, but Gears of War 3 is no Uncharted 2.(Especially not if you're focusing on their single-player experiences!)
Adam Sessler - "I honestly think I put GEARS OF WAR 3 up there with UNCHARTED 2 for that vaudevillian way of all the various elements working together in such consequence with one another that it just has this amazing piece of resonance." Sorry to be cynical, but most great games do this. So nothing new being said here. However, I'll disagree on UNCHARTED because there is a narrative discrepancy between the gameplay and cutscenes that has been mentioned time and time again: NATHAN DRAKE. He is a genocidal sociopath in gameplay killing hundreds of nameless baddies while cracking jokes after they die; in cutscenes he's is the sweetest, most innocent rogue ever. If there were no cutscenes, Nathan Drake would just look like a psychopath.
resistance 3 is nothing on this >< makes me wana buy my own 360
Strictly a single player person in 90% of the games I play, story matters to me. Gears 3 has a good story IF... if you read the books. If you have a full understanding of the progress of the universe, understand who Bernie is, how Anya changed since 2, how they ended up on an air craft carrier, and so on, then the story is great. If you haven't touched the books, then yeah the story seems full of wholes and gaps. They dropped the ball here, especially since they even had a 'previously on Gears' clip. They could have filled in a lot of the gaps for people that are not well versed in the franchise-long character developments during that video, or even in a different video. So much of the in-between moments are covered in the books, that I feel a lot of these 'the story sucks" and "it didn't make sense" type complaints wouldn't be around if there was one more entry in the 'previously on Gears' entry.
This game is so good it may even beat Skyrim for goty.
I may be the last person on this planet who deosnt have a copy of this game yet.. Its friday, payday and I get off at 5 Im going straight to bestbuy and get it! Here to a great weekend cheers !
Once again, I just gotta disagree!*spoilers* The search for the submarine, the lengthy sequences of searching for fuel, these were filler of the worst kind. I think the Gears spent more fuel driving around looking for the fuel to power their cars. And yes i know the game is supposed to focus on fuel.Dom, Cole, even Adam Fenix, weren't given enough time to flush out their story arcs. The cast of characters ran too deep. Sam, Jace and Anya do NOTHING throughout the entire game, and their characters do not develop at all. Better to have Adam as your fourth member than Anya, and let the Gears universe develop with his presence. And worst of all, this edition of Lambant / Locust seems to have lifted itself straight from Dead Space 2, complete with glowy face cavities. It's a great battle system and a healthy amount of content overall, but I'm sorry, Gears of War 3 just could have been so much more.
"Grampa" Sessler? Thanks for REALLY making me feel old now. :)Another good Soapbox. I've just gotten about a third of the way through the game so far but I've really been enjoying it. I do dig the fighting just for survival and not for victory anymore vibe the game has.Now if you'll excuse me I have to go chase those darn kids off my lawn. Probably with a chainsaw.
Not sure if I would compare Gears 3 to Uncharted 2. I'm more apt to compare it to Mass Effect 2.
12 hours! I am impressed!Sold. 5/5 wasn't good enough for me to rush to the buy... a lot coming out this holiday season and I had planned on putting this off for a while, think I'll go pick it up though.
Hey Adam I saw the Paul Jr gears of war 3 bike last night and saw you smiling away at it I was wondering what that was like in person and what you thought about it.
I have found that despite the convoluted nature of the story in Gears, its still an enjoyable campaign and multiplayer. I am a hardcore gamer in the sense I play nearly every type. To have this type of shooter that successfully distinguishes it self among FPS like Halo and Cod, is refreshing. Its not just that its third person, that is a minor distinction for me, but the significant gameplay mechanics stand out among other shooters. Fan boys will hate on anything, I have both PS3 and 360, so believe me when I say Adam's opinion was not influenced by cash under the table. Its insulting to the industry, to me, and G4. I have yet to play Gears 3 but I am sure that regardless of a good story the gameplay will be phenomenal.
I haven't touched single player yet but I'm sure it will be good. For the multiplayer it still has issues even after the beta which is just sad.
Completely agree, I was not much of a gears fan due to the same reasons adam mentioned, but gears 3 is amazing. It may be the best game I've played this gen, and yes, that includes Halo.
Look, I don't get why people think G4 is paid by Microsoft. They're not. I've been watching this show for over 5 years and I see absolutely no pattern between the score relationships of games specifically for XBox, or PS3.Personally, I'm in neither camps (PC gaming forever!) but I can appreciate it when a good game comes a long. GoW is not my type of game. Just don't like the series, but I always like to hear the opinions from this crowd because they are among the only people out there in internetland that give at least some type of argument for why they liked or didn't like a game. And it is for that reason that I can honestly say that I am very intruiged by what Adam said about GoW3. I might actually go play the darn games now. Thank you Mr. Sessler for your wonderfully insightful input, as usual!
Rockets can be surgurized? Well I am a Brain Scientist and I agree. Gears of War 3 is no Rocket Surgery. Why take out that liver on that ICBM when you can play Horde mode 2.0 ?
And the 55 reviewers who appear on Metacritic averaging a 91, are they all paid.Nice try, now go cry in the corner.
