How can I get one of those X-Play t shirts??

Wow! I am REALLY disappointed at your panel's unabashed support for Gamestop.
1. They DID alter the content of the product; a purchaser at Gamestop was receiving less value for the
same price than they would have received at another vendor.
2. Whether or not you believe they had the right to alter the product, they had the ethical obligation
to NOTIFY their customers that they had altered the product BEFORE making the sale. The customers should have had the option to make an informed decision about whether that content mattered to them and whether to cancel their order and purchase the product from another vendor. I understand they don't want to promote the competing service, but "We removed a $50 coupon for a competitor's product" would have been sufficient.
3. An in-store credit of 'equal value' is not actually of equal value unless the CUSTOMER judges it to
be. If a customer doesn't WANT $50 of Gamestop product, it is a $0 value to them and they have no way to obtain the $50 value that was offered by the publisher. For some customers it is useful, for others it's an empty gesture at best and an insult at worst. Calling it "generous" is laughable. You could have argued that with some credibility if it had been offered before the public outcry, but not after it only comes after the fact as PR damage control.
Apparently this means I am not part of the "rational world" in your eyes. I think it is rational to expect vendors to give an accurate description of the products they are selling. I am sorry to see you all so eagerly dismiss people's concerns on this issue.

I take it Gamestop is in negotiations to make G4 the "Gamestop Network?" Only thing that explains that first 10-min defense of Game-bleeping- Stop... Disgusting.

Blair Herter is Awesome. Like a bad assed Kevin Pereira.

You guys are totally right about the people of Seattle/Washington. We're really nice people in general. I was talking to a New Yorker one time and he was like, "People from Washington are too nice" like it was a bad thing. I don't see how it can be bad at all. However, it's a fitting stereotype: nice people from Washington. Just like people from New York are mean and in your face, and in my experience some people from California have huge egos. :P
PAX rules!

Okay 45 min roster update.. on ps3 it took 2 - 3 min max.. Wow i am surprised that came out of his mouth.. I think this madden is just as good as any other.. If you like madden you will notice the little things it does right..

Wow you guys are actually sticking up for Gamestop? I really didn't expect that. Spawn labs may be developing a streaming service but its not out yet. Gamestop sells Steam enabled games, why don't they just stop carrying those too? Valve games for PS3? Screw those. While they're at it, get rid of those point cards by Microsoft and Sony.
I mean you guys realize you're the only gaming news site out of the ones I typically have respect for (Giantbomb, Joystiq, 1Up, Gamepro, etc) that is taking this stance and you're taking it in kind of a condescending manner at that, as if anyone who disagrees are idiots. Or even worse: its just the internet being the internet. While I'm glad you are exercising your right to free speech, I'm disgusted by your viewpoint.

Packaging is part of the product, as such, taking out the coupon was tampering with the product. Of all the things to defend you guys choose gamestop. Are you kidding me?

Adam, in Guild Wars 1, there was lvl 20 and that was it. You didn't pay for anything at all unless you wanted to look different than everyone else. Now you know! :D

The problem is that when opening a PC game, that falls under computer software and thus, opening the game voids the return. Legally, Gamestop is not allowed to take it back. This isn't so with Xbox and PS3 titles. This said, I don't buy PC titles if they are open. I've heard stories of Gamestop employees stealing PC codes (Valve titles for instance, you have the code you have the game and if someone actually buys that game, they will NOT be able to use it) and I don't want that risk. Just keep the wrap on it, idiots.
As such, this isn't the first time Gamestop has opened a PC box. This used to be common practice, and I have since not bought from Gamestop.
However, with this said I suggest everyone upset over the Deus Ex (as people should be) simply stop buying from Gamestop.
I understand Adams point however, Gamestop's action was throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I mean, they have the right to simply refuse to carry the game. I understand they were caught by suprise however I would simply furnish the pre-orders and stop carrying it. If the stockholds whine: Hey, we didn't know!
Simple simple simple.

Every time you purchase a new game, you are given access to the manual and playable data. Everything else is EXTRA. Yes, this includes the case.
The bottom line is, you cannot complain for not getting what you did not pay for.
Everybody has heard this saying:When you assume you make an ass out of you and me.

And, Adam's right, Gamestop as a corporation has a duty and purpose to maximize profits. So what maximized profits, leaving the games intact, and not damaging trust with their consumers and getting bad publicity? Or getting "caught" opening all of them to remove a coupon for a competitor that would have been likely thrown out by 99% of the people opening it. You can criticize them for stupid policies that hurt their bottom line as well.
metallaw
And did Gamestop TELL everyone picking up or buying their "new" copy that it had been opened to remove the coupon?
Gamestop's general customer policies are nothing short of annoying, as they focus on trying to sell to the parents of gamers, talking them into warranties, guides, and other things they don't need, or explaining how great it is to buy a used copy for $3 less that the prior owner had ample opportunity to drop in their toilet. Depending on their sales (which I can tell from looking online, but the store associates never know) that used copy may cost MORE than the new copy.
This opening-the-games is a single example stemming off from their massively annoying "gutting" policy of opening all the new games so they can put them on display, then selling you the opened copy as "new" at full price. Those new copies frequently looked scratched, dusty and worn, if nothing else from switching them out into a cardboard envelope, but in some circumstances being "loaned" to the employees to play.
We may not have a constitutional right to an unopened game, although there certainly are laws related to misleading sales practices if you sell something as new when it's used. And, we do have a constitutional right to vent how their policies are certainly annoying, and encourage people to shop elsewhere. If I want to be OCD and open a new game, knowing it's new, that's my prerogative, and why I would always buy from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or otherwise rather than having to ask when I go to buy a new game if it's really new or not.
And hey, knowing about IN GAME advertising, does this mean that if some racing game has a Best Buy sign on the course, that Gamestop can go in and edit the game, just because they don't have to promote their competitor?
However, I will give Adam that King Lear freaking rules. The glory of that tragedy, with Lear and Cordelia as the nihilistic pieta, is incredible, and completely metal.

I download the album after I buy it on vinyl. That way i can put it on my Ipod.

I am not saying that I condone the actions made by Gamestop, but I believe they are capable of doing this without having to compensate customers.
Compare buying the same game from Steam and a retailer. Price is approximately the same.
Both come with the game and access to a Manual. Anything extra changes from where you obtained the game. Even with PSN and XBL, we have shown that those two items are the purchased materials.
The extra content of your purchase is different if you obtained the game from a different location..
By saying that Gamestop is not allowed to have it's extra content different then that of other stores, you are officially eliminating exclusive pre-order deals.
And if you say that you can because it was advertised, then what about what wasn't advertised. You are saying that you feel cheated because you did not obtain what you did not purchase. Your Pre-Order was a purchase of the game. This includes a manual and playable data.
And on a side note, great show.I can always rely on G4 for quality.

Leah Jackson is so smart and cute. They should make her permanent in the show.
revolution1973
MLS soccer is a real sport BTW
revolution1973
the point of the download cards in vinyl records is a lot of them these days are limited pressings. i'm not going to play a 7" that there is only 100 of if i don't need to.
MisterBrown
Taunt Adam and Leah's teams all you want, but if Marty McFly shows up in his time machine, they'll have plenty of 80s goodness to discuss with Joe Montana vs. Joe Gibbs.
Also,
Blair should be allowed to rage at someone each week. He always fights for the right causes and entertains the masses in the process.
