I've had this same perspective of games for a while now. With the economy the way it is, one can be quite overwhelmed by how the world might be crumbling around them even though the process is slow and non-graphic. That sense of hopelessness is also there--if the toll is high, someone might not be able to sort things out and undo the damage inflicted on them. In economics this is especially hard due to its bureaucracy and lack of emotional drive (let's face it, economics is boring). I like to think games help us channel that sense of dread into activities that mean something, if only perceptually. Not only do we get lost in a world that's more enthralling than our own, we are able to take part as a constructive/destructive force and undo/continue the wrongs affecting that world. That sense of power is, well, powerful. What we do matters quickly and on many levels, a luxury few of us have in the real world.

    Great Soapbox this week.
I agree with Adam, you need something in your life (video games, books, etc) to help you disconnect from the world for awhile. So much information is bombarding us that we need to take a step back and breathe......gain more perspective on life (that might be that I have a wife and kids too but hey I see where Adam is going with it)
