Some trends I don't like are the rise of motion based gaming and the need to put multiplayer in everything.
They should've mentioned DLC!! That's a definite killer to the consumer but a cash cow to developers. U buy a game that happens to have the contents need permission.... so the contents are already on the game but we pay more. Gaming with online access is not an advantage at the end of the day
what the hell? MW3 close to 100 million dollars? what the hell did they spend the cash on!!?? no new engine no new graphics no new gameplay! they probably spent all the cash on enough drugs to give them crap ideas.
Definately miss the old party based RPG's- Gold box D&D ruled back in the day, and the old Neverwinter online MMO that used to be on AOL (talk about being ancient!). I wouldn't mind seeing someone ressurect some of the older classic titles like Wizardry, Might and Magic, Ultimia, Zork, etc...
I could not agree more with the topic. I saw the pre-order stuff was going to get out of hand 5 years ago when I was managing a Gamestop. I love RPG's but finding a good turn based RPG is almost imposable now. With so many companies trying to cater to the casual gamer they seem to keep leaving out what made those genres of games great to start with. FFXIII I'm looking at you. At least if you are going to cater to the casual market give the player an option to play it at a more advanced level. If Square had put in an option to be able to control all your party members and turn off the auto battle feature that game would have been so much better in my opinion. Combat wasn't so fast paced that you would be overwhelmed trying to control all you members. Sorry got off topic.I would also like to add one more trend to the list....ZOMBIES, I like zombies as much as the next guy but I don't need them to be in every game I play and I'm getting really sick of it. The industry is notorious for stuff like this, who remembers when the first Max Payne game came out and introduced us to bullet time, soon every game had bullet time. Then it was QTE's (quick time events) I would love to know how many gamers out there actually like QTE's? I personally don't know a single person that says "This game has QTE's, can't wait to play it".
DeadSkies's comment is abusive and has been removed.
Yeah I have to call bull on the pre-order bonus material. Why is it so hard to just give the people what they want and give them a full access to the content they paid for in the first place. Rather than making the customers pay extra or the possiblity of missing out on console specific content. Also what is more annoying is the overly extensive use of DLC, its getting to the point you cannot even play even the most bare bones multiplayer without having online access,( I know I'm behind the times, but I have an xbox 360 that predates Wifi.) I'm looking at you Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'm not fully against the concept of DLC, but when it starts actually effecting how you play the game as well as the level of enjoyment you should be getting rather than adding to the experience it becomes rather insulting.
AHAH how ironic, right after this video finished the ad was for pre ordering Gears of War 3 and the crud bonus you get.
The Unwanted need of Multiplayer.
Thank God for the internet which gives the Indie developer a chance.
