LA Noire was a wonderful experience for me personally.I found the game so engaging that I didn't want the game to end.Another game that i truly enjoyed was Alan Wake.Games like this suck you in and when they do end around the fifteen or twenty hour mark it makes someone like me a tad upset.LA noire was great, I just want more of it.
in a time when people have no idea whats good and what is bad.example if all you know and eat is crap you will think crap is good and you will keep going back for crap. ie most fast food/ stuff made in china and most movies made today.this game is top self la noire.if you think this game is bad then you realy dont know what is good.the only thing i dont like about this game is that i cant put it in my cd player and just listen to the music in the game.p.s adam do more shad grim gravy
I have yet to play the game, but have been waiting for over a year to do so, and now I am greatly disappointed to find it isn't' slated for release to the PC. I realize that the kiddies out there buy the GTA and shooter games for the consoles, my son included, but real games like Fallout and LA Noire should also be ported to PC for the adult players. I have both a desktop and a laptop that are geared for high end game play and an income that affords me the ability to buy all the games I want. I hope at some point soon they port it to PC so the grown ups out here can play it.

Its pretty understandable that a lot of people do not like this game. Especially with many people eating up the GTAs and CODs out there, this game is something completely new that the gaming world hasn't really seen before. I for one really enjoyed it, the story was well written and the voice acting and soundtrack were amazing. Plus the new technology of facial animation was just unreal, I couldn't get over it. yeah there were some glitches here and there but not too bad. I haven't had that much fun with a game in a while. I love playing games that try something totally new. Thats why I can see most people not liking this type of game. Especially if you bought it with "it looks like a 1940s GTA" in mind than you will be disappointed. I also think the game length was PLENTY. I didn't want ti any shorter or longer, I was fully content when I finished the game. Plus all the side missions and collectibles will take some time to get. I totally agree with Adams review, and I for one fully enjoyed the game. Yes its for sure not perfect but it is an outstanding title that I hope we see more of.
I agree with most of the commenters here, I have yet to beat the game but I already see where it's going. I think the best desk of them all is the Homicide desk and perhaps had the best partner in the game, Rusty. All the cases linked togeather and had coherence. At this point I had started developing a connection with the characters and I started wondering if I busted the right people or if I really understood what was going on. When the desk was over I was dragged once again into cases and desk I could care less about. Vice Desk was good too and it was nice chasing down the gangsters but the immediate halt because of some awkward plot change really ticked me off. I felt it was uncessecary. I'll have to play more to find out why but im not liking it.That incident is one of the big flaws of LA Noir, the fact that the stories was so good they take you through all that work only to abruptly stop you in the middle just to promote/demote you and to the next desk. This was my biggest problem with the game by far.This is an amazing game and it deserves a sequel but I think if it happens it needs to focus on one specific desk like Homicide but let the entire mystery revolve around that desk to make it a more fulfilling game.I know the game is artsey, the story is great, the game play is unique and a lot of effort went into it. I love playing these kinds of games, but the game feels incomplete and not just the overal ending but in each desk. You never have any real closure when you finish a desk, I can see the team's favorite desk was Homicide, it has the most cases and the most fulfilling story and plot and had a more satisfying ending to the desk. If they do this in the sequel but make it the entire game with smaller cases on the side (Like doing two or more at once like real detectives) then I would enjoy the game more.
I am a gamer I play all types of games uncharted, call of duty, mass effect, red dead, killzone and many others. But I have to say that this is the most creative and original game that I have played in this console generation. I don't idolize it, it is not perfect but it is amazing. I am sick and tired of all the call of duty clones and mindless shooting games filled with 10 year old kids and hackers. It is about time that video games are growing up and becoming a work of art such as Uncharted, Mass Effecy, Heavy Rain and now L.A. Noire. Amazing graphics, good gameplay, long and great story and a brand new concept in video games with realistic interrogations. When you have people watch you and say wow is that a movie and sit down to watch you play even if they don't like games, then you know this is something special, keep it up Rockstar and I recommend it to anyone that wants to experience something fresh and new and not mindless shooting and explosions like Michael Bay movies.
I personally did not like L.A. Noire. I played through the whole game, and up until the final mission i was asking myself when the main story was going to start. I love a good story, and this game doesn't lack in that department. I think however that the cases were too short. I felt like every time i was getting used to characters or partners i was forced to switch to another desk or case. There was not enough character development at all. I mean i honestly didn't care about what Cole did to his family because he had only mentioned them like 2 times before the incident.I think it should have been more like Red Dead Redemption where there was one big story with a bunch of small ones wrapped in it, but instead L.A. Noire has a bunch of mini missions that make a game.The ending is what really killed it for me. I won't spoil it. All i'm going to say is it left me feeling like i had accomplished absolutely nothing through the course of the game.(much like the end of the homicide desk and Vice desk) I feel like L.A. Noire had a great recipe, but it wasn't baked long enough. The tech was amazing. The writing was great, but by the end everything felt repetitive and i just couldn't wait for it to be over. My opinions of this game have nothing to do with how long it is, or because "I wanna shoot zum z0mb13s lolololol". I simply think that it let me down where i thought it would have excelled most, the story. BTW Adam i've been watching g4/tech tv since i was like 9 years old, and this is the first time i think i've ever disagreed with you on a game.
I agree that LA Noire is a great and daringly original game; but your argument that the 20 hour length was somehow ideal for the narrative seems faulty to me and I think you overlooked one very legitimate complaint that gamers might have regarding the games length.EXHIBIT A: RETAILER EXCLUSIVE DLC The most glaring issue I think many gamers such as myself have with the lenth of LA Noire stems from the plethora of retailer specific DLC cases that were released with LA Noire. This content which was apparently withheld from the main game in order to appease retailers entails a significant amount of gameplay. Thus consumers are naturally more critical of the overall length of the game since the content they received was paired down in order to serve the issues of the retailers.EXHIBIT B: EPISODIC NARRATIVE STRUCTUREThe episodic structure of LA Noire being divided into individual cases undermines the need to keep the games length particularly concise. While there is indeed an overarching narrative it seems to me that the game's drama is largely compartmentalized within the individual cases themselves. Thus so long as the individual case your following at the moment is itself intriguing then the game's narrative is never in any real danger of getting bogged down.EXHIBIT C: IT LEFT YOU WANTING MORE.I also find the assertion that the games length was ideal to be in rather direct contradiction to your comment in last weeks Soap Box that you're chomping at the bit to get your hands on more DLC cases for the game. The setting of LA Noire is so compelling that you naturally want to spend more time in it and thus a longer stay in that world (within reason) is inherently preferable.CONCLUSION: LA Noire is well worth the consumer's $60; however the relative brevity of the game when compared to other modern single player games coupled with the fact that the game was artificially shortened in order to provide retailer exclusive DLC fully legitimize critiques regarding the games length.
amazing game but the only thing i felt was bad was that it felt like there wasn't one single grounded story it was almost as if it was 2-3 loosly based stories in one game the black dahlia, drug trafficking, and insurance fraud. if it focused on on single story throughout the entire game it would be perfect
20 hours is perfect for this type of game, anything longer would of felt dragged out. when the dlc comes out i hope they make a few good long dlc's but also make a dlc like Undead Nightmare on Red Dead Redemtion.
Still won't be giving L.A. Noire a fighting chance.

Ifeel that it would actually not be too difficult to argue on the merits of it purely as a "Game". However it would be quite different to argue that it did a bad job of what it was trying to d, which in many cases was not in line the current "game" type experience.
Sounds to me like Adam's indulging in a little DAMAGE CONTROL
There is also replay value. If its only a 6 hour game but you could play it through 6 times then its like a 36 hour game.
I am, 100# agree with you , I am 52 year old and I call my self a gamer.I look in the game ,LA Noire is the best game I've played this year, and possibly even of all time. I like to play a game the have story and keep you in focus make it injoable, thank Sessler
People care about the length of the game because the longer the game, the more time they can have playing that game. If they play a short game, then they are disappointed that they paid $60 for a 6 to 8 hour experience. I'll use Portal 2 as an example. I think the game is short, but the experience playing the game is so rewarding. I think the game is very good, but most people will play the game and their judgment will be based on how long the game is and not the game itself.
I wonder, if you don't like the use of the word "Game," what word would you use to replace it?
