That's why I said bad review in comparison to Origins. It's not bad but just as you said when you compare it to other Bioware games like Mass Effect games, Baldur's Gate II, hell even Jade Empire, DAII reviews have been quite subpar. I feel that if DAII wasn't made by Bioware and having EA behind it to "persuade" some reviews, DAII would have got worse reviews. I have seen some Eastern European-made RPGs that have the same problems as DAII but we got a much lower scores on reviews.

"I agree that Bioware did a lot of things wrong with DA2 (but not necessarily for any of the examples you gave)"

Well, if you're okay with Bioware manipulating their fans that's good for you. Just shows how poor DAII has been with all these controversies. I don't remember Mass Effect games (apart from a sex scene that's been blown out of proportion by Fox News), DA: Origins, KOTOR, etc. getting lot of embrassing moments like DAII before and after release. I do agree this stunt is a business ploy than pleasing fans, since being acquired by EA, Bioware doesn't shy away from admitting they are making RPGs for people who doesn't like RPGs anymore, but same time alienating their long-time hardcore RPG fans. Mass Effect 2 and DAII are proof of this.

I apologize that you took my post the wrong way. First, I don't use the reply button simply because it doesn't work for me. Not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong, or if it's the site, or whatever. I've never been able to use that button to reply to another message. Secondly I wouldn't say the game is getting a lot of negative reviews necessarily. According to game rankings.com it has about ~77% score based on 43 reviews at the moment. I wouldn't say that's bad, it's right in line with Sessler's 3/5 score for the game. But I wouldn't say that it's good either (especially considering Bioware's past quality games).

But honestly, in the end I'm just trying to say I understand some of where your coming from, even if it may be a bit, "off track" so to speak in my opinion. I agree that Bioware did a lot of things wrong with DA2 (but not necessarily for any of the examples you gave). And I also agree that this celebration thing is somewhat cynical on Bioware's part. I mean, look at it from a business perspective. Why give people a free copy of a game like Mass Effect 2? Because now they open the opportunity for people to buy DLC content for it. People are less likely to shell out money for a new game (even a marked down game), however, that doesn't mean they wouldn't shell out less money for cheaper DLC content. Anyway, I don't think Bioware is thinking in the slightest that this free game offer is their way of pleasing angry fans or something to that nature; considering how proud they are of the sales. But I do think it's a business ploy, definitely, and not something they were doing with the -sole- intent of pleasing their fans.

Wow really, you are offered something free of charge and because you have already played it, or own it, or both, you want to complain that it is not good enough. Its free!! If you are a fan and are loyal to the Mass Effect world, you can only see this as a good thing. The more people that are introduced to this world and like it ( which is really hard not to ), the more DLC is purchased, the more Bioware and EA have to really create a superior product in the next game. Remember that faithful PS3 gamers have just recently had a chance to play ME2. I am one of those gamers, and I havent even finished it yet and now I can play it on my laptop also. This is a great value and I bet there are gonna be so many different stories similar to mine in praise of this offer. Thank You Bioware !! Thank You !!

I bought DA2 on PC, and own ME2 on my PC. Just like when I bought Orange box to get all titles expect a second copy of Half life 2 which I then gave to my oldest son. I gave him ME 2 for free. I would not be happy if I bougt it on a system that did not get a free version. I just do not understand how people can be upset over getting a free game. It is not like they are giving away a game that is 5 years old.

@ Spybreak: I didn't get Red Faction Guerrilla with my copy of Darksiders T.T I Pre-ordered and all that jazz...

Anyway...this is a great deal even If though I've owned Mass Effect 2 for over the year it's been out. I'm just slightly confused at the "loyal fans" line. Because I, a "loyal fan," already have Mass Effect 2?

    Again, Great deal though.

I applaud Bioware for their generosity, but I already have Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. I'll be skipping out on this deal because I just don't wanna start from scratch again.

I sunk so many hours into Dragon Age Origins that it would embarrass my World of Warcraft playtime. I own Dragon Age 2 and have put about 70 hours in. I have never played Mass Effect, and never planned on buying Mass Effect 2 before the first for storyline reasons.

Once they made Mass Effect 2 free for me to download I couldn't resist playing, and I love it. I am thankful for receiving such an offer. Now I really need to stop falling behind and purchase the first.

Since we are not using the reply button, thought I might reply this way as well. Not accusing of Bioware of lying, just want to know the definition of a game selling so well. It's not like they achieved record breaking sales, but just sold more than the original game on the two week it's out, well whoop dee doo. So it sold a million under two weeks on all platforms? That's the cause of celebration? With all the s$%*storm (i.e poor reviews compared to Origins, Bioware only informing people that auto-attack is not available on the consoles 12 hours before release, BW employee caught reviewing his own game over at Metacritic, etc.) DAII received after the release of the game, I suppose BW are totally happy with any news that's not bad. While Origins didn't sell as much as DAII in two weeks, Origins didn't have a sharp decline on week 3 like DAII did. I think it's desperation from BW to giving ME2 for free to get people to buy DAII.

    @RPG-fan

It was announced in the same e-mail Bioware gave us and probably her too. I'll directly copy and paste a fraction of it:

"Thanks to gamers like you, Dragon Age II is off to a great start breaking the 1 million mark in less than two weeks and faster than Dragon Age: Origins."

I'm not sure how precise your information is, but I see no reason for Bioware to lie about these figures and add along with a free game to go with it.

I have to agree and disagree here. It's nice that Bioware is offering a free game. But, on the flip side of things, this "gift" only applies to a small niche of people. Considering that if you own DA2, you probably already own ME2. And if your a gamer that owns a console version of DA2, their is probably a reason for it. And most likely your not going to play a PC version of ME2 if that's the case. So in conclusion: I like the gesture, and I'm happy for the people that this applies to, but it sucks for the rest of us.

"Since Dragon Age 2 is selling so well"

Where did you get that stats that DAII is selling so well, Nikole? According to VGChartz, after week one the sales for DAII have been declining rapidly that on week 3 DAII not even selling as much as DA: Origins on its third week.

I hope DAII flops so Bioware won't release this kind of dumbed down RPG anymore. This dumb promo isn't going to make DAII better.

It's a great promo and I wish more developers did this. THQ had a promo if you grabbed Darksiders you'd get Red Faction Guerrilla and Valve has the buy Portal 2 on PS3 to own it for PS3 and PC, which is basically saying you got the game free on PC. I bought Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2, well pre-ordered CE/LE (LE for DA2 was free upgrade), and my computer probably can't run DA2 but I'm happy with the products Bioware created. It would be great if they gave day 1 fans a bonus down the line, something like what THQ did with Darksiders.

We get it, you guys wanna walk in and make like you are better people because you don't question why God let your little brother died, you were just glad you were given a sister. I get it you are all so holy.

My problem isn't that they randomly are giving away ME2.

My problem is that they are saying it's a reward to LOYAL BioWare fans. Because really all this is, is a reward to anyone who bought Dragon Age 2. Doesn't matter if they've ever played a BioWare game before in their life.

There is a saying that goes something like, 'Don't feed me gravy and tell me it's chocolate' or 'don't urinate on me and then tell me it's raining' and that's what this is. I'm being told that this is a gift to 'Loyal' BioWare fans. (which I would think a Loyal fan would be someone who preordered DA2 back before the Signature Edition deadline, which oddly enough I'm under the impression that the Signature Edition was available for the first week of sale).

If they had said, 'Hey we are giving away ME2 on the PC to anyone who bought DA2 as a thank you' then it'd be easier to swallow because as much as I dislike some of EA's garbage (Evil? Maybe but they are the only hope I have for a good Xbox 360 Baseball game in the future... I hope. Additionally EA Bankrolls a lot of good games) I still like BioWare and I feel although they've completely changed DA2 that it was a fun game (for me at least which isn't the same as ME2) and took out a giant chunk of the RPG Element to be more mainstream, that they try to make good games.

Because I don't care what kind of Developer you are, you don't go out trying to make garbage (although let's face it, A LOT of developers put out garbage. They may not put their best effort forward or care about the project but they don't go in to it trying to achieve garbage. Except maybe Kane and Lynch games).

So yeah when BioWare tells me that it's a gift to their Loyal fans it doesn't sit well, it doesn't feel right and it doesn't seem genuine at all, it seems trickster like. It doesn't even sound like a marketing ploy.

Now BECAUSE the 'Loyal Fans' scheme seems like complete bull to me, it makes it easier to fall in to the trap of thinking that like as @PinkCrayon32 said (and I don't agree with most of this opinion) BioWare is trying to make up for a bad game (DA2) by giving away a 'good' game (ME2).

I mean that kind of makes sense because it's been my experience that CPU players are real big snobs about RPGs. I mean I know some that if they find out you play the console versions of DA:O they scream about it being a water downed gutted game and that you should even bother playing it. So I assume it's mostly CPU player complaining about DA2 (because it's even less of an RPG then DA:O on the Xbox).

But that theory still has it's holes because if you didn't like DA2 and it's lack of RPG then you didn't like ME2 and it's lack of RPG.

And really I kind of like DA2 more then ME2. I absolutely LOVE the ME universe over Dragon Age, but DA2 to me seems to have more Replay value and more intricate and numerous side quests to me.

So anyway my point is, I'm not 'looking a gift horse in the mouth' or complaining about a 'free game'. My complaint is that the 'loyal fans' line smells fishy and cloak and dagger like.

Has anyone ever heard the expression, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth!" It is a free game, if they didn't do anything would you of complained out of the blue, LOL.
