This reminds me of when games went from a 2D perspective to a 3D a la Mario 64, and it could be argued that the jump from the 2D SNES perspective was unnecessary and a gimmick. However I remember the first time I played Zelda Ocarina of Time, and I remember distinctly when I reached Hyrule field for the first time. The sun was setting as I ran along the grass in this immersive environment that I had never experienced before, and it gave me a feeling inside that no other game has replicated since.

When I heard the 3DS was re making Ocarina of Time I thought to myself. Is this going to be like that time, that experience I had when I was a child? I decided then I would buy the 3DS because I have seen all the perspectives, and I have seen the high definition graphics, but I seriously have not been immersed in a game since the release of the Nintendo 64. I think 3D may bring that sense of new immersion that I am looking for.

For some reason the video stops around 12:00 and cuts to a paid advertisement... not a fan of those

@DanaVinson that little joke you said about japan wasn't funny at all. "....I think they're a little busy right now haha." that was an awful thing to say. though i never liked you, really can't stand you now. what happened over there was tragic. we don't need you making like its some sort of joke.

Why were the videographers twirling their fingers? I assume they were communicating with each other or another entity but what were they saying?

3D is not necessarily a gimmick as it does attempt to improve upon something. 3D is an attempt to improve on the aesthetics and atmosphere of a video game. Like HD or non-2D graphics it may not need to lead to improved game play or innovation to be significant, for the importance of game play and innovation are two of many subjective matters pertaining to quality. A large or subtle improvement to atmosphere might be deemed important to some, and may be an important aspect in some games.

As for the growth of the market for 3D or tablet computers; it is not necessarily a matter of market manipulation. Resurgence or emergence of demand for a once undesirable product may be confusing at first, but by itself does not need to be reason to suspect foul play; in fact, it is quite normal as technology, culture, and cost change over time.

Speaking personally I have played or seen games where good atmosphere made up a large part of why a game was considered great and not just good or mediocre. Without good atmosphere games like Silent Hill, Metroid Prime, Half-Life, Penumbra, Killer 7, Resident Evil, and The Wind Waker or Majora's Mask may not have attained the status they have today. As for innovation I would not discount 3D just yet. I'm sure there is someone just waiting to use depth, geometry or positioning in a way not deemed normal after all it worked for Tron.

that was a quick 180 stance change on the 3ds. for the past year you guys have had it's balls bouncing off your chins, now all of a sudden the hateorade rage is spewing everywhere. i get that it doesn't have a great line up right now, but from what i've heard, from you guys and others the tech is quite impressive.

Luigi Pirandello penned "Six Character in Search of an Author." Good reference, Adam, and a great play. I enjoy in much more than the past five years of the Smackdown vs. Raw series.

As always adam Sessler seemed the most informed and well thought out opinion but some of these comments i mean really

You choose to ignore a game system with a very nice visual upgrade a better graphics processor much much better online than previous Nintendo systems a faster processor and soon to have an internet browser and shop channel for older games you loved

what the hell more do you want out of a system that's just as much as every freaking other system before it had upgrade wise the 360 didn't do more this yet no one complained the PS3 didn't do more than this and no one complained

just get the system and enjoy yourself for once stop hating on something because of some idiotic prefabricated untrue opinions you have mature games are coming games aimed atall age groups are coming out don't like em don't get em this isn't aimed at little kids anymroe than it's aimed at any of you

When Dana said about only playing the game once, that's all fine when the game is available on one system, but what if it's a multiplatform game? I suppose if multiplatform games are reviewed on the one system and other platforms are neglected, you only need to play it once. Then again, when reviewing a game on other platforms more time and care is needed, otherwise information on the review can be inadequate and in some cases, not entirely true, case in point the review of Crysis 2 specifically on the paragraph regarding the PC version.

I usually do play games 13 hours at a time....hmm, maybe I should look for a job as a game critic.

Okay so I bought the 3DS and amazingly, behind the 3d is an amazing system. Sure the 3D can be seen as a gimmick, just like the touch screen was in the first launch titles for the DS. But I adore the the DS now and I feel the 3DS shall be following in it's footsteps. The graphics and polish of SSIV 3D Edition are amazing. The game never lags and the wireless play is amazing. I love the way it just connects whenever I want, where I want. I might sound like a fan boy now but I really hope that good titles keep coming so I dont end up eating my words.

I plan on buying the 3DS.... Not because I want 3D. (Well... I kinda want it) But because I want a new DS... Believe it or not I'm still playing off of the original DS. And I feel like it's about to explode everytime I turn it on.
Oh! Great Feedback everybody! I like this panel.

The same thing happened to me when I played Uncharted 2 three times through within 4 days. I would go to sleep and dream that I'm playing the game, specifically shooting and using cover. I would then wake up and find my hands out in front of me motioning the controls. That made me feel worthless so I haven't played it since.

A Feedback where Matt is the positive one...weird. I think he had some really good points on why he bought the 3DS now. Always good to get a different view point. It kinda feels like Adam is trying to stir up a hate fest towards the 3DS. I'm not sold on 3D but you can only fight the future so much.

Jesus, alot of people from g4 are hating on the ds. They dont even blame it on the lack of compitent games like I do, they seem like they hate the hardware for what it is, especially in the last soapbox
