Actually, the Fairchild Channel F set the standard for cartridge based games. It came out before the 2600. And the guy who came up with that scheme only recently passed away this past year.

The only reason why there was a crash was due to everyone and his brother thinking they could program a lame demo game and sell it for $50, and in a short amount of time you had lousy games nobody would buy, plus Atari doing bad practices by forcing retailers to order product a year in advance.. This is why Nintendo came out with its lockout chip in the NES, but that rigamarole is another story.

Today, the 2600 is a hobbyist's platform which I would encourage anyone to try programming on. It'll teach you a lot.

Man this series is great. I wonder if those games are still in the New Mexico dump... road trip!

They used my Atari game boxes. If you look at the Space Invaders box you will see my url in the bottom right corner, www.videogameobsession.com.

They probably didn't see it posted, but I do request permission if someone wishes to use my scans publicly.

Also, if anyone with G4TV wants to contact me I can supply higher resolution images and quite a few that aren't available on my website. All you have to do is ask! :P

I have spent a many hours on this machine, and to this day I still play Pong, I have a mega old 13inch black and white TV that it's hooked up to it, and after playing 3-4 games and hitting up some CallOfDuty, on a 42inch LCD... Do you ever appreciate that HD stuff. Ah... good times. Thanks for the memories.
