Bottom line, how many songs can you possibly do? It had to die off at some point. Song choices over the last few years has gotten progressively worse. I bought Rock Band 3 and played it for about two days and haven't touched it since. The pro instruments weren't available, and the songs weren't enough to keep me going in the meantime. I just feel really bad for the people who are getting laid off. I hope they can find something else in the business. With all that cash Activision is bringing in, you'd think they could keep them and move them to other departments or something.

i feel the music game genre has all been so expensive. if you want to buy a complete set of instrument it will cost around 250 dollars. A lot of the money guitar hero and rock band get is from the hard wear too. Now in this tough financial crisis most people cant see themselves throwing down 100 buck bare minimum on one game. this price point is not so seductive too new comers especialy. no gamer is going to throw down a 100 buck for a game they dont even know there going to like.

It could be that guitar hero does something like rock band and sets up a independent team.

I also find it interesting that Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk will not have an iteration this year. Activision seems like it is learning the lesson we have been waiting for them to learn: you can't keep making the same game year after year and expecting it to make money.
There is a valid argument for waiting a couple years between sequels. Let us enjoy the game we dropped $60+ on for a while before demanding we pay another $60+ for what is essentially the same game but with a racing stripe. More games can succeed when you stop expecting people to buy the same one over and over and over.

It's because they whored the game out till people were sick of it and stopped paying for it. Nothing innovative was made in the newer versions, and the dlc wasn't compatible with the newer versions of the gh franchise. It's actually a great business plan to make money but sucks for fans of the series. Now it seems they are going to be doing that for the call of duty franchise, a new game every year and less innovation till it's just blah. Also that new cod online experience everyone thinks is a pay to play service. If it is pay to play I bet it's an MMO, because they talked about bridging the consoles or something of that nature. but it's all speculation. ok my 2cents are up

Guitar Hero should stay dead. Rock Band is all what Guitar Hero is and more. As said in the video, every game is the same thing with some prettier graphics and some lame ass story mode that no one cares about.

Rofl "Thats just my opinion, imo"? Its late, and I'm tired :P

The killing blow was when there was that one year where there was like 8 music games in one year. ONE year....thats friggin insane, and people just got sick of music games, and it never recovered since. Thats just my opinion, imo

Just kill the Guitar Hero franchise for good. Rock Band is such a superior game in every way

I gave up on GH about 4 years ago. I was fun but wasn't something i played for hours or my friends came by to play. But I agree there are franchises out there that need to take a break and not necesery get cancelled i.e. All EA sports games,Halo,Gears of War. Microsoft seems to just milk the CRAP out of these games. Iam a Sony fanboy and their not safe from me either God of War,Metal Gear Solid, Resistance and even Uncharted. Why cant these game just be given a little bit of breathing room? Why does Gears 123 and Uncharted 123 have to be on the current gen consoles, whay not wait for the 3rd one of these games for the next gen as launch titles! These games look a bit better then there predecessors but not by much, I rather see slick graphics that will just blow ur socks off with these games running on nest gen consoles! Oh yeah Call Of Duty u need a break too!

Since this happened. I really hope they leave DJ Hero alone. I think it would be foolish of Activison to try to make DJ Hero their new music cash cow.

GH is ok, people need to realize we don't want new instruments each year. RB is better of course but as long as it adds more decent songs I'd buy a copy eventually. The other requirement would be for a more responsible publisher to take hold of it. Then we can force Activision to close and take all their remaining disgusting games back into the hell they came from. Really, do they have ANYTHING good? They ruined everything they had and canceled any original games. Not smart. Close GH and now Act is left with zero, good riddance.

I can think of a lot more franchises that should die waaaay before GH.

Wouldn't it be 2005 - 2010 since the last one would have been released in 2010? There doesn't need to be a new iteration. All they really need to do is put out a few track packs every few months for like $20 a piece. As of right now, I think music games have hit a plateau and there's not really any new experiences that can be had at the moment.

All things must die and Guitar Hero was nothing but borrowed time.
