having PS3 franchise and award winning games as launch titles for the PSP2/NGP is not really that bad from a core gamer's point of view. Sony threw out those games to show that the PSP2 is not your average hand held that uses gimmicks to "print money". the PSP2 is a powerful system and I am looking forward to having one and playing great games. I'm not really impressed with the 3DS considering that it hasn't been released yet and Nintendo already has an excuse by announcing that there's a "sweet spot" or distance where you have to hold the 3DS in order to experience the 3D effects. And the Super Mario and Zelda games were all just rehashes from Nintendo's old and current systems plus they will not be appearing during launch date which leaves the Nintendo Fanboys nothing but vapor ware for their expensive handheld, unlike the PSP2 where PS3 Fanboys will be treated to Call of Duty and Uncharted to name a few during launch. My only apprehension with the PSP2 will be it's price because that certainly is no soccer-mom sedan but a top of the line muscle car.

Why is everyone so center around SONY, MICROSOFT, and NINTENDO competing? The competition is over for this generation of consoles. Any new sales are probably repeat buyers with a few first time consumers. All three companies are working to extend the life of their current consoles, and working to move on to their next entry in the hardware departments.

Mr. Sessler, 50 Million plus is a successful push for a product weather it is a console or a portable device. Sony has done just that with their PSP, and PS3. You can't expect a repeat performance for every new hardware iteration. Fanboys are nothing more than proof of a products success, and there are plenty of fanboys that frequent this site and others. Not to mention the obvious fanboyism of G4 staff members. Everyone has their own preferred console.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all sold well, and we are now seeing a sharp decline in console sales. I guess sometimes you just can't extend the life of a product and need to move onto the next big thing. The PSP has reached the end of it's run and the NGP is a proper replacement for the PSP. Nintendo seemed to be trying to replace their hand-held year after year with new model types and now the 3DS. Too many new units playing all the same games, and now we get to play them in 3D.

When it comes to hardware I've always admired Sony for putting out great quality technology, and the PSP2:NGP is no exception. My only greif is, like Adam Sessler's soap, releasing franchises for the portable that's already on the PS3 is kinda underwhelming for a debut. I hate to see another GOW, MGS, or LBP for the PSP2. They shouldn't have to rely on established franchise to make a name for themselves, what they should do is release new IPs for it that is NOT offered anywhere else, and hell, why don't they even support independent devolopers to make games for it. Now, that is a buy for me.

I think Adam is comes across as a bit cynical towards these new handhelds, however, he makes a good point about the way they present themselves publicly. There is no reason why Sony couldn't have woo'd us like an Apple Keynote event, they jumped the ship a bit early - too excited to show off the new technology without providing enough information which leaves the media (the one's promoting their products) in the dark.

I really like what Sony is offering here, touch on the back is unnecessary and I wish they'd remove it to lower the price, I also doubt I'll ever use the back camera. The launch price of Sony's NGP will be the determining factor whether I choose a 3DS or NGP and I'd prefer a NGP thanks.

Well here we go again. Some newfangled machine to eat up our money. I agree with you on the naming of the crazy thing. Why bother us with something that doesn't even have a blasted name. Remember windows?? Instead of a new portable how about a new PS4?? I would love to see that. double the graphics, 1tb of storage with RAID. I cannot count on my fingers how many times I've had to replace the hard drive or the machine from failure. Better than the xbox 360 though when it comes to failures. But NGP your out of my mind until some other poor smuck buys the thing. What about the current PSP owners and their disks of good games and movies. If it won't move over don't bother me anymore. I've spent enough. good luck Sony. Oh! ya! what happened to asking the users what the heck we want. I've never seen a survey one asking what I want in a machine. Companies are getting to big for their britches.

I don't think for one second the NGP will undercut the PS3. In fact I think of it more as an extention of the PS3.

I didn't have any of Adam's problems with the NGP or whatever it's called. I'm waiting to buy a new PSP. All I wanted was a second analog stick. This will definitely be a buy for me. I'm sure SCEA will be talking more about things like price and games at GDC and E3.

When judgment day comes. I want everyone at G4, well the important people to tell us their console of choice. Who's a Xbot and who's a PS3 fanboy AND for the hell of it who owns a Apple computer.

It depends on the games and battery life. The reason why I play portable games is on the go or at work, so if it only last 2 hours no good. I really think its too early to judge if its good or not.

I think also handheld games are being held back by gaming price. Like $39 for a handheld game way too much and while Iphone games have that are as fun amd equal in 99 cent games. That's hard to ignore. Yes iphone is expensive phone but who doesn't have a cell phone or an iphone in the future??

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about Sony's lineup for the device.

1)No one is going to buy a handheld for franchises they've never heard of.
2)No one seems to complain about the 3DS lineup, when all they have is a bunch of revamps, and all of their franchises are on every single console/handheld.
3)Don't you think it would be logical to "trap" people with established franchises before introducing them to new IPs?
4)Give the thing a chance to innovate. No one seems to have seen the 3DS's 3D, yet you all have faith in Nintendo. Have a little faith in Sony for once.
5)The NPG isn't out until the holiday season. It has PLENTY of time to prove itself.

Everyone seems to have a stick up their ass for Sony and I just don't get it. You guys welcome Nintendo back with open arms after the abandonment that is the "Wii", but Sony is dishing out hardcore exclusive after hardcore exclusive, and it never seems enough.

I think there is a good chance that Sony could have held back information concerning the American market because their conference is not covered as widely as say, E3. My guess is that they wanted to leave more hype to compete with Nintendo and Microsoft, when they enter the spotlight.

They need to just stick with calling it the PSP2. I always think it is great how sony doesn't try to come up with weird names and just calls it what it is.

Playstation/ Nintendo 64, Playstation 2/ GameCube, Playstation 3/ Wii, PlayStation Portable/ Nintendo DS

    PlayStation Move/ Kintect

I am not ragging on Nintendo or Microsoft, I just like the consistency in Sony's naming conventions.

A somewhat chaotic Soapbox, but I get what you are saying Adam. I see how the launch of this new platform could create confusion among the potential costumers. I do not agree with your take on "working" titles. Kinect was Natal (arguably a better name) and it managed to sell millions.

Wow...I really have to disagree with how much hate you're giving to this presentation and the psp2 or "project NGP" if that helps you understand why calling it the NGP is not really that big of a deal. Kinect was codenamed natal when it was announced. How come you didn't flip your lid then? Nintendo pretty much showed off established nintendo and 3rd party franchises when they announced the 3ds. Also I am sure that when natal and 3ds was announced, they had a announcement trailer just like the psp2 that was just like sony's trailer that was purely artistic and tried to get the main point of the porduct across. In sony's case this would be emphasizing culmination of social features that will be included in the psp2. I don't know why you are freaking out about the region and date it will be launched. If I remember the 3ds and natal, when announced, did not have accurate release details until a much later date so I have to ask, was this soapbox really necessary or was this just an early smear campaign for the psp2 as I have seen a lot of unneccesary negative freakouts and nitpicking like this from other videogame shows like invisible walls on gametrailers.com when it's clear that the competitors have done the same exact things but escaped from the media unscathed. Hope you can offer a rebuttal to this comment, adam, if not here than through a personal message or something like that at least.
