I agrree with sessler, But it all about the money "its a drug" the marting think you makes millisions on the book, comic, or game. Why do you think that there is going to be a rock em' shock em' robots movie. That is the only thing that buther me about true grit.

I agree with sess for the most part, however some game adaptions of any other form of entertainment are nice if you feel like jumping in and doing all your favorite moves for yourself. I agree that most movies based on games are not that great or visa versa, but then i would say most games and movies based off comicbook material and novels generally turn out pretty well. Just my humble opinion.

Mix the media in any universe, as long as the stories are separate.

Well, I suppose they're called adaptations for a reason.

I understand what Mr. Sess is saying, and given the quality of many adaptations from video games, comic books, and even novels I can absolutely understand his point of view. Thanks to the reason WHY they're made that he alludes to, it's not surprising that the majority of them are uninspired drivel.

Having said that, I'm someone that enjoys adaptations when they're done well - and they absolutely can be, and I'm not sure comparisons with the source material are always fair. On a personal level it's easy to say "Tolkien sucks as a writer, Peter Jackson's film grammar makes more sense", and such a statement can even reach a level of objectivity critically speaking, but they're two completely different mediums.

I spent my college career writing and reading interpretations of many different films, so I'm certainly biased, but I enjoy well-done adaptations because I enjoy seeing a narrative be re-interpreted - even re-imagined - from time to time. I'll incur the contrarian hate here, but take The Dark Knight, for example. It incorporated MANY different ideas from the Batman mythos, adapted them, and produced an amazing film. As it stands, amazing Batman comic books, films, and even video games exist concurrently - not a problem.

Choosing such a developed franchise as Batman might be cheating, but I maintain it IS possible. Doesn't happen a whole lot, and the failures are both aggravating and depressing (as they should be), but I'm a fan of good storytelling wherever it may happen, even if it's an adaptation. Video game-to-film is a special beast, for sure, given the progressive and unique nature of games (especially with a franchise like Uncharted), but there are absolutely original and innovative stories, images, and characters to be had.

Uncharted specifically, Hollywood has been looking for a franchise that could take the place of Indiana Jones for YEARS (hell, even Indiana Jones couldn't pull it off), and I would actually love to see them succeed for once.

    Or something.

J.R.R Tolkien sucks!?! Wow Adam hope you're ready for the hate mail. LOL

I agree to some extent, I read the books 3 times myself. I wasn't able to really enjoy them until I was older and actually had the patience for that style of narrative. And yeah, best movie adaptation ever... maybe best movie ever.

I agree with you on Tolkien. I don't really give a damn about what the different species of Hobbits are, I just want good characters and action I can keep up with without being lost within words.

Why is the video titled "Why Video Games Suck", another typo? lol G4 and their video titles have not being working out too well lately :P

But I don't get why these movies are being made either, the best example is how and why the Resident Evil movies have been continued.. they've had the opposite affect on me by causing me to have a feeling of disgust whenever I see that name now.

If at the very least such a movie was made with a small chance to boost the game sales in mind or to attract a new audience, I wouldn't be suprized to find out that the bad movies had a negavitive affect on the sales of the game it's based off of instead.

There is just seems to be no way someone can take the 8-10hrs of a video game and create a 1hr30min movie out of it, when it is how the interactiveness and gameplay fleshes out that story is what really makes it meaningful to you in the first place.

Imagine just watching Mario jump from platform to platform instead of controlling him, it's kind of what these movies have been turning out as, a game without the game.

Agree games are a form of storytelling (some game more than others) so there is no need to tell that same story again just in condensed movie form. the only why I see this working is if they take the characters and the world of uncharted and make it its own story and not just condensed version of the game.
