Sony vs. GeoHot Hacker Lawsuit

Not a lot of corporations like Apple and Sony are happy with George Hotz (a.k.a. GeoHot), the hacker responsible for jailbreaking the iPhone and taking on the PlayStation 3. Kevin Pereira talks to George about his work as a hacker, Sony's lawsuit and his plans for other gadgets.

Okay you guys suck for thinking geohot is a bad guy. Are you FN kidding me? I bought the PS3 from sony for the price of X amount of dollars. So it is now mine i own it. So that means i should be able to pwn it! There is always going to be hackers and people that go around on games but that does not mean we should not be able to do whatever we want with the hardware we have lawfully and rightfully purchased. Thanks Geohot for helping us rule our own hardware and not sony!!!!!!

The amount of hackers that ruin my day has exploded exponetially because of you. All we want to do is enjoy our games and you have taken that.I HOPE YOU LOSE!!!!!

Step 1.) Purchase TV with PCI Port
Step 2.) Hook Computer running Linux up to said PCI Port
Step 3.) Leave the PS3 alone

The same thing happened to the Wii. I have the Homebrew Channel on my Wii with custom everything! I don't see anything wrong with this, considering he said right in his video he doesn't support piracy. Just because he releases a hack doesn't mean that he is doing something wrong. That's like saying a car should be illegal because you can kill someone with it. And for the people that say that this causes "Hacks in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", that's ridiculous. When you install a hack, it stays locally with your PS3. Just because I have access to the internet doesn't mean I can automatically hack the CIA's firewall! If you don't want the hack, don't install it!

the problem here is not GeoHot jailbreak is own ps3, the problem is put the code in the internet, Every one can do everything to his legal bought ps3, but if he put the code in the internet he's making that all people start doing it, so that is not fair for sony, He ca do what he wants in HIS ps3, not in all the others, and indirectly he's doing it.

Sorry Geohot did nothing but run SOMEONE ELSES code with a different location pointer request. Period. He did no real hacking or reverse engineering in this hack.

Can't stand this kid. Sure he has a talent, but what good is a talent that could help pirates ruin a perfectly good system? I do not want my PS3 to become another generic PSP where if I don't know how to hack, or don't want to pirate, I pay 60 bucks for a game while this smug little kid gets everything. It's negligence to sony to say that it's your console in every way possible, because clearly sony has a purpose for the playstation 3, and it doesn't include losing money by giving away pirated media. If sony made this system, then sony has the right to tell this kid off and make sure that what they want is what they get. If George can't handle that then he should put his 'talent' to use and make his own game system, since he clearly has an idea in mind.

Maybe this guy should put his talent to good use and stop F-ing around.

He said you can't play pirated games. If you or i or anyone wants to get some custom apps on a ps3 they should be able to. As long as he doesn't support piracy, i support him and the jailbreak.

I support the idea that you ahould be able to do whatever you like to the console you own. Now I haven't read the entire terms of service for the PS3 but I would bet in some fine print That Sony is going to pull on is going to get this guy in trouble. Sony has a right to be mad because Geohotz may be playing pirated games or trying to give people the ability to but that is what it will lead to whether he wants it to or not. Sony is trying to protect their system and they have a right to do that Just like any other company. But Sony is usually much more careful and protective of their console's than other companies. This is going to lead to nothing good because If Sony wins or not they will do everything in their power to stop this whcih means they are going to put all their resources into this problem. And it will take time away from improving the console. Nobody wins.

hope you lose egohot =D the interviewer is an idiot he makes him sound like a hero and in some aspects he is but this wont be good for people who purchase there games fair and square. for everyone hoping for a price drop in games, it was fun dreaming wasnt it. everyone who enjoys free online, enjoy it while it lasts and @venromero- anyone who purchases video games and supports there favorite companies is invested in this and anyone looking forward to better games or sequels is invested in this. i may as well trade in mw2 while its still worth something

THIS GUY IS A JERK!!! Now it would make sense if they had taken it upon themselves to make a very awesome application beforehand to prove to people thats what it was for it would be cool. So far only three things have happened
    1. People are now screwing game servers in Modern Warfare 2
    2. People are making there own custom firmware and custom pirate applications
    3. Sony can read into anything onto your system so if you have any regular application running or on your system, even being just a new internet browser that can find you and also take away functionality of your system ITS IN THE CONTRACT YOU AGREE TOOO!!!
So far all this guy has done is help piracy and screw over gamers an lose the Other OS function for the people who actually use it. He may not be a jerk personally even sounds kind of funny but he has screwed over the Sony fans who were waiting for the simple applications directly from Sony HQ to pull through. They have added numerous functionalities to the PS3 since the system launch and are continuing to do so. Please just leave the system alone, you have caused nothing but trouble and hassle to honest PS3 owners not to mention Sony is going to make this priority one on things to do so say goodbye to in-game chat and in-game music.

I see Sony's problem with this. People will abuse jailbreaking. This may lead to hacked PS3s by network connections or even trojan or worst types of viruses by the same network connection. Why? Cause someone thought it would be cool and it wouldn't be. That will lead Sony repairing or replacing too many systems that are still under warranty. Jailbreak all you want - just leave my system out of this.
