The Samsung 8000 Series 3D Plasma TV might be taking up that extra room under the Christmas tree with its super sleek design, stunning picture quality and 600 Hz smooth viewing technology. Kevin Pereira and Sara Underwood take a close look at the $2,500 TV.
What You Need to Know
- This is one of the sleekest plasma TVs we've ever seen
- All the inputs are sideways, so you'll be able to wall-mount it with no problem
- It's only 1.4” thick
- Samsung has an entire app store for internet content on their televisions
- They have almost 150 apps available for download, including Netflix, Voodoo, YouTube, and Hulu and there's even an app that provides free streaming 3D content
- Loading times are a little slow, but this is, by far, the easiest television app store to use
- There's no built-in Wi-Fi; the dongle is an extra $50
- The colors are extremely vivid and accurate, especially for a plasma TV
- Also, the blacks are very deep
- The Smooth Motion technology also works well, but we noticed that the more you turn it up, the more digital noise you see
- The 3D picture quality is spectacular
- Cross-talk, or the appearance of a second image, is still there, but it's not very distracting
- This is right up there with Panasonic's 3D as the best we've seen
- We'll go out on a limb and say it's just as good as the 3D movie theatre experience
- There's a feature that allows you to convert normal 2D stuff to 3D; all you do is turn on 3D conversion and put on the glasses, and you can watch practically anything in 3D
- We've tried this feature on other TVs and it felt lame, but Samsung made it subtle enough so that it's fun to watch
Price
- It’s $2,500 on NewEgg.com
Overall Rating
- Buy!
- This is the best TV we've seen all year, both in two and three dimensions
