Samsung ST80 Wi-Fi Digital Camera Review

The Samsung ST80 digital camera allows anyone to spend the holidays wirelessly, thanks to its cool features like 14 megapixels, high quality video recording and uploading to Facebook or YouTube right from the camera. Kevin Pereira and Sara Underwood review the $250 digital camera.

What You Need To Know

  • The Samsung ST80 is nice and small for a point and shoot camera.
  • It measures only .75" thick and weighs practically nothing at 4 oz.
  • The 3" touch screen is pretty responsive to the finger tip but the more you use your fingernail, the better it will work.
  • We wish the screen was larger because the icons are kind of small, but overall, it works well.
  • Since the ST80 comes with built-in Wi-Fi, users can upload photos and videos online, as long as they're near a Wi-Fi hot spot.
  • The uploading worked well for the most part.
  • First, you connect to the wireless hotspot which might take a little longer than you want, but the process isn't overly complicated.
  • From there, you can upload pictures to Facebook, Picasa and other services.
  • One weird caveat is that you can only upload up to 30 seconds of video to YouTube and it has to be a small resolution. Anything larger won't work.
  • The built-in wireless connectivity on the Samsung ST80 also allows users to email pictures with almost any email address.
  • The digital camera will also stream photos and videos to any DLNA device like a TV or phone, as long as they're on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • We did experience the camera freezing up while using the Wi-Fi, but you just have to turn it off and on to fix it.
  • The ST80 also records HD video at 720p, which looked average.
  • The outdoor video footage had a hazy look to it with some digital noise, and low light video only exaggerated those problems.
  • The pictures look really good!
  • Normal light photos have accurate and vivid colors, and don't suffer from soft focus.
  • The photos might be a tad overexposed but it's not a huge problem.
  • Low light photos are also good: the flash exposes evenly and details are sharp, though you might have a little grain.

  • $250 on Amazon.

  • Buy.
  • The Samsung ST80 offers a slick design, tons of features and good photo quality, making it a great camera at a reasonable price.
