The Droid Pro offers a full size keyboard, multi-touch display, 5 megapixel camera and thousands of apps available in the Android Market. Kevin Pereira and Morgan Webb review the Android smartphone that’s available for $20 with a Verizon Wireless contract.

What You Need To Know

  • The Droid Pro feels and looks a lot like a BlackBerry.
  • It has a full keyboard and 3.1" screen.
  • Overall, the Droid Pro is very slim but does protrude a little at the top.
  • It weighs as much as an iPhone, which isn't much.
  • Motorola obviously had to sacrifice screen size because of the keyboard, but it's not too bad.
  • The screen has just enough room to use comfortable and it's actually one of the most responsive screens we've used on an Android device.
  • There's support for multi-touch, too.
  • The resolution is the only thing that could use some work; it's pretty low at 320x480 (compared to the iPhone's resolution at 960x640).
  • The keyboard works as well as the BlackBerry's for the most part.
  • It feels like the BlackBerry Tour's keyboard because of the raised edges on the keys, which is a good thing.
  • The keys are a little close together which might be a problem for people with huge fingers but overall, we liked typing on it.
  • The Droid Pro runs on the latest version of Android, so it's just as fast as other smartphones.
  • When launching games or apps, the Pro was as fast as the iPhone or Droid X--and in some cases, faster!
  • This is one of the quickest smartphones we've reviewed.
  • The web browsing experience is a little tight on the small screen.
  • Users will probably be pinching and zooming a lot to see what's on the screen.
  • Despite this, the browser was super fast and runs Flash well.
  • The 5 megapixel camera's picture quality is pretty good: outdoor pictures look really good but indoor photos were a little grainy, even with the flash.
  • The video quality isn't HD but it'll do.
  • The Droid Pro comes standard with access to the Android Market, support for practically any email account and DLNA streaming to devices like a TV or PlayStation 3.
  • Also, the phone works overseas unlike a lot of Verizon phones.
  • It only has 2 GB of internal memory, plus a 2 GB micro SD card, so you'll probably have to shop for a larger card.

Price

  • $20 with a contract on Amazon Wireless.

Rating

  • Buy!
  • Despite the small screen, this is a super fast productivity phone with tons of perks.

@Osita77 thank you for the correction! It does have only the landscape keyboard, but you have to enable it in the settings. Either way, the screen is not conducive to typing on.

Look at that, a gadget pron where the co-host doesn't seem completely clueless as to what she's talking about. Take notes other 40+ co-hosts! Gotta love Webbsday

The Droid Pro was well reviewed. I own the phone and LOVE it (that has a musical tone to it)--miss my Droid X though. Anyhow, One correction: You DO have the virtual keyboard: tap on any text field, turn sideways and viola! You have an on-screen keyboard. Just wanted to mention this because it is an option. Other than that, the review is on par, and like these guys say, it IS fast! Second best Droid series phone, IMO, Droid X is my first only because I used mine for pleasure ;-), but best business phone I've owned! Kevin, you rock! =D
