OK so I LOVE playing Halo but I suck... I was playing social for a little while and right away this guys keeps trash talking to me and I was silent the entire time, I didn't even say a word to him. I kept on fighting through the round and just ignoring him. Even when the round was done he kept on trash talking to me and even sent me a hate message. I decided to block him because he was WASTED and was just talking out of his @ss!!! He probably was just too drunk but either way he was a grown up and I'm 16 and he kept on calling me mother-fer abd to f-ing leave... It still doesn't make sense that a teenager was more mature on a video game!!! Amazing topic Sessler!!!

Bullies are all over the world, but they are not the majority, or I like to think they only get away with bullying because society ignores their behavior.

I posted a link on my site to this video. Maybe it'll help reinforce moral value.

Online bullying is gone on for far to long . all most no one even talks any more . So many times my whole team could have one if just one person would have given an up date on the other team .
But so many people get brave online and just start yelling for no reason .
What I really hate is when some kid ( usually a young boy ) just starts SINGING !
Xbox dose ok with this you can mute and leave feedback , some times I spend more time doing feedback then I do playing . but on PS3 your out of luck . just put the mic on the floor . Don't matter no one talks anymore anyway ! because of bully's.

If you don't know what this is about and or you never ran it to a bully that's because you are one or at lest friends with one !

I am Glad to see your addressing this issue Adam, bullying is a very serious thing, i speak from experience i had no self esteem as a kid due to bullying and even fell into depression. What you say is true though it does get better, as you grow older and begin to realize who you really are you begin to understand that those who bully others are really the losers, now saying this i dont think its right to turn around and do the same thing to them. If we truly want to be better than treat those people with respect but show them that you will not take their crap anymore. As always i enjoyed this weeks soapbox very much thanks to everyone at G4 for making it happen!

I've got to agree Sess, we really don't need people like that on our planet. Douchebaggery shouldn't be tolerated in any way shape, or form.

Props to Adam for finally saying what everyone was thinking. As soon as I get my gold membership renewed I am going to start banning people; there is no reason that online gaming should have the reputation that it does, and everyone can help to get rid of the people who made it that way to make XBOX Live a friendlier place.

Ha... I idd not even know you can BAN people on XBOX. Considering my time on XBOX is less than 12 hours of Halo reach. Sorry Dragon Age Origins (PC version) and EQ2 has pulled me away.

Great video Adam. I really liked that you were able to share your personal experience of the subject. This kind of talk will definitely help anyone who is having a hard time. Not to mention the request for more people to step in and confront the bully. More of THIS and we can hope to see the bullying disappear.

I'm so glad to see so many people passionate about stoping, or dislikeing online and IRL bullying. These kinds of things really suck. I would know, I have to deal with this crap everyday (public schools, what can you do eh?). But to come home and log online to get away from it all and then hear some loud mouth jerks online just really ruins it. Internet bullying is wrong too, I saw we have web police. Both brings jobs to this country, and cracks down on bullying.

    Well said Sessler!
Cyber bullies set a bad stereotype for fps gamers,
I for one, don't stand for those type of a**holes at all. I know what it's like to be an easy target, so I make an effort to make sure that cyber bullying doesn't happen in any of my ...EVER.

If you can't take internet criticism from people you don't know, that says more about your personal self confidence than how mean the other person is.

We should teach kids to deal with criticism more than telling bullies to stop. There will always be bullies and telling them to stop might even make them do it more.

Obviously there are examples where its over the top (beyond internet trolling) and that is horrible.

I have never gay bashed online...or even in real life. What people do in their privacy is none of my business.

But i can admit to being a dick. While playing Wow i would get frustrated with other people and i would vent. I eventually came to a head when Blizzard threatened to change the forums policy so that people's real names would be used in posts.

At first i hated this idea then i quickly changed my mind. This would clean up not only other people's behavior but it would force me to clean up mine.

Blizzard never did implement this policy but it got me to a point in which i realized Wow was making me a worse person then i wanted to be. So i quit playing and canceled my account.

Not that it is Blizzard's fault or the game. It was me. But sometimes the best way to stop being a dick is to remove the possibility.

Anyway to my fellow online dicks i suggest you think about it. Do you want to be a better person? or do you want to be the biggest online dick?

From my experience after an honest evaluation of myself it is actually easier to be a better person. Being a dick made me miserable and took way to much work and effort to be worth the exactly zero rewards it offered.

low lives who act like dicks on online games are little more that sad pitiful people who have no life. they also feel that since it's the internet and people (normally) wouldn't know where to find you, they could say what ever they want and get away with it scott free. while i never really played shooters much (lol i have no skill and on occasion i pull leeroy jikins on my team by mistake) i play mmo rpgs like perfect world and eve online, and i have seen some pretty disgusting behavior. and it gets even more sad when it's an adult doing it.

i'm sure that most of us play games to get away from crap like that. and yet when we log on we end up running into the same problems we have to deal with in real life. my personal counter to them is to simply agree to with them. yeah that's right. agree with them. don't give them the satisfaction of knowing you are hurt and realize they have no life.

we all know WHY people act like this but just what is the root cause? here is my opinion based on what i'm seeing in my home town. ultimately, the problem here is lack of proper upbringing. basically, little to no teaching of respect towards others and no discipline. i always look at people who run on about how games are responsible for people being dicks and being violent and laugh. seriously, parents these days are doing a horrid job of bringing up their kids. once upon a time, if a kid shouted at their parents, they would be in for a whole world of hurt, nowadays it's more common for them to yell and slam there doors on their parents, followed by days even weeks of not uttering a word to them not even a respectful "good morning" or "thank you". then there is the fact that kids would be having problems at school but the parents would have no clue about it. my mom always knew if i was upset over something. and i for the life of me never could have figured out how the heck she would know. years latter when i am now an adult she finally told me that i had a odd way of walking when i'm upset (big wtf moment there cos even i never noticed it until she pointed it out lol). the point is parents don't seem to know their children as much as they use to. no teen should have so much stress in school that they would consider killing themselves without parents picking up on something. of course there is always exceptions to what I've said and i could be completely wrong, after all, I'm basing this off only a handful of people however i can certainly see this happening.

*hides in a hole and awaits the flames people will no doubt send his way for posting this*
