Hmm, looks good.
Wow Shadowfox your ignorance amazes me... according to you WoW is the first MMO in the history of online gaming. If you had even the slightest clue you would realize WoW stole its gameplay from Everquest and its User Interface which you claim in Rift is so "WoW" from a game called Asheron's Call 2 (do a google image search). So no WoW did not invent this so called User interface they however did steal it and made it better. But seriously calling Rift a WoW ripoff is just plain ignorant, if anything SWTOR will be the WoW clone with its cartoony graphics with the only promise of a storyline... honestly who is looking for a story line when the quests are going to remain the same kill 10 this bring me 5 of those.
you were awsome in feead back but you are asome in all long live the swiner
Love the show, and its good seeing exposure for new MMO's, but this was lame. Copy and paste Trion Worlds marketing video here. Where's Casey talking with the producer, creating some MMO Report banter? That was rehearsed marketing blurb. Where's the questions from gamers answered - how is this an evolution of the public quest system, not just a copy paste from WAR? What is a "somewhat random" event? Does this mean planes always spawn in a set location - but the type may vary? A bit different from whats been said before. And how do you enter these planes? I tried in the demo at GamesCom, but the rift seemed a standard public quest.
I don't know why there is so much fuss over the interface. Yes, it is very similar to that of WoW, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If Planes of Telara have the same open approach to addons that WoW has, then most players will end up customizing their own personal interfaces anyway. Not to mention this game isn't due out for another few months, the look of the interface is not something hard to change and the current template could just be temporary as they finish more vital parts of the game.I'm much more interested in the actual gameplay than something as trivial as a copied interface. This game looks to be shaping up to be something special, and I'm excited to see what the end result is.
This is the most polished MMO to release in recent memory. Games like MO have been complete failures in my estimation. We're really excited about this one over at AddictGuild and look forward to seeing you in PVP.
I want to apologize for the most part to the people who read all of my past comments. Much of it was written out of frustration. But I did want to clarify what I was trying to write earlier. In regards to my comment about the interface, what I was trying to say is that it doesn't matter whether or the interface was intelligently or unintelligently designed. The fact is, is that it is still copying WoW in either scenario. Even NocturnalX basically said it himself - WoW doesn't have the best interface ever. So my question is - if WoW's interface isn't "perfection", then why should the developers of Rift copy to near-exact detail? Why not change it or try to improve upon it?However, I still stand by my comments on the interface or GUI design. It just simply doesn't matter. If everything is in a fairly-sensible area of the screen; your going to be able to understand everything eventually anyway. You can't prove to me that because Americans naturally read left to right, top to bottom; that they were dying more often in MMOs like Diablo I & II simply because the health bar was on the bottom left corner of the screen rather than the top left. Additionally, whether or not one object on your screen is in a more sensible location than another location can be regarded completely as a matter of opinion.@IIEight8BitII - Finally, somebody else that agrees with me. I knew I wasn't the only one.@BurrTheKing - You might be right, I never played Aion. Although I still consider my previous examples in the case of a WoW-knock off to be fairly solid. So it might just be copying both.Lolz, I plan for this to be my final "comment" for this video. I've already posted way more than I should of. Plus I'm getting bored.
I disagree with WoW knock off. Everything about this game screams Aion knockoff, even the logo is similar, they just don't have wings and they changed just enough to make it "different"
Why is that entire games scheme look like a knock of of WoW?...
@NocturnalX & Whiteaura1 - You two are completely missing the point I'm trying to make here. Makes me wonder if either of you read the entire post because your only nick picking about my comments on the interface. To NocturnalX, Does it really matter to you if developers design a interface "wisely"? Who cares if Americans naturally read left to right. Just from my own experience of reading manga, I can tell you that it will only take you less than a day to adjust yourself to start reading panels right to left rather than left to right. And how different is this from a video game when one game moves a piece of the interface differently from another? As for the stupid squares and rectangles comment (not that your comment is stupid, but the subject itself is stupid). I was only trying to make the point that developers should at least -try- and set themselves apart from WoW. Yes, circles, octagons, all of that would take a -little- extra time to make. To get technical, I still imagine the developers would originally make them as squares anyway. But just add a circular overlay or whatever they choose, over them when their done. But just imagine how cool it would be if a game actually did octagons. Especially a Sci-fi game for instance. Ok, you admit it yourself that the hotkey bar is pretty useless once you know what is on it. So why show it in the first place? Wait, I know, because WoW is doing it. They don't even have to show the hot key bar, but like WoW, they choose to do so anyway. To WhiteAura1, I'm not exactly sure why you think I think that way. I gave not just the health bar as an example, but several others examples to explain how identical the interface of WoW is to this game. It is all these examples as a whole that make it a WoW-copy.But lets ignore all those interface examples for just a moment (even all the ones I didn't choose to mention). Because you guys believe it's stupid a complaint and I agree too.For one, can you tell me of another MMO before WoW (around 3:07 in the video) where a rogue-like class can add combo points onto target by attacking said target with combo-point-adding abilities. -And- to a total of five maximum points? While it didn't show any in the video, I'm sure their is finisher move coming to soak up all those points.Secondly, Just listen to the producer himself. Do you think it is a coincidence that the first three of four classes he mentioned: warrior, warlock, or a rogue - all happen to be in WoW? He could have just as easily have said a knight, or a fighter, or an assassin, or a thief, or a blood mage, or a sorcerer. The point here is that the developers have had WoW on the brain ever since they started the game. And think of the rift concept. The fact that it changes the landscape. Sound familiar? Hmm... I would adventure a guess that they took more than a little incentive from WoW's cataclysm expansion. Since cataclysm will alter the majority of the game's environment in some shape or form. It isn't even just cataclysm necessarily. WoW has had limited-time world events where monsters come out of nearby portal and attack the main city. Such as the undead attacks before the release of the lich king expansion. What about the two different factions: the guardians and the defiance? Does that at all sound familiar either? Oh wait, I know - WoW had two separate factions too! The horde and the alliance! Gee I can't believe that didn't dawn on me sooner. Finally, think about the fact that all of these similarities are all in the same game. That can't be coincidence. So I think I'm done here. I've more than proven that this game is directly copying certain aspects of WoW. If you don't believe it then your just lying to yourself or just arguing for the sake of arguing.I don't think it is unreasonable that I'm annoyed that this game copying WoW. Just to give a recent example, I was reading the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow review the other day and a couple people were already complaining about it copying God of War or Devil May Cry. Their is also a reason why people hate plagiarism. But with me, it's especially annoying with WoW, because a -lot- of developers are doing it to some capacity. As Casey Shreiner says in his commercials "Do you play World of Warcraft or one of it's thousand other clones"? I understand if a system works, but you don't need to, especially in this game's case; to directly copy more than several different aspects from a single game. It isn't original, and people can easily get bored of something they've played before. Nobody is forcing me to play it, but, if they devoted their time to something more original; I may have actually wanted to play this game. In my case, I got tired of playing WoW. That's why I quit. Is it really shocking that I get mad when I see every new MMO release copying WoW to some degree? I'm perfectly fine if you guys disagree and still like WoW and therefore don't mind other games copying it. But I at least want you to understand where I'm coming from guys.
i didn't mind that the whole episode was on Rift so much but i wish that Casey had more screen time in it at least.
One of the most anticipated MMOs of the year officially launched yesterday and you guys spent a full episode on Rift?Really?
Come on guys. I'm disappointed with this MMO Report. I don't mind that you guys devoted an entire show to a single MMO; but the fact you devoted it to -this- MMO. I've never heard of it until now, but from just watching this episode; are you kidding me? This game looks like one of the most cheesiest World of Warcraft rip offs I've ever seen.Mostly because it has an extremely similar interface. Health bars on the top left corner with an enemy health bar to the right of yours when you target them. Then you've got the hotkey bar on the bottom of the screen along with -square- pictures that you can place onto it that represent spells/items etc... Hell even the "rogue" class in the video starts doing combos on their target and it starts stacking skulls right next to the enemy portrait! And look at the soul system. It anesthetically looks like a complete rip off of WoW's tiered-talent system.I can understand if some of these design elements are innovative and make sense (i.e. the hotkey bar). But it doesn't have to look so anesthetically similar! In regards to the hotkey bar, you can do pictures with circles, diamonds, whatever. It doesn't always have to be a square shape. And why does everything have to be the in same placement? I wouldn't mind seeing my health bar on the bottom left side of the screen for once. Hell Diablo II did it. Speaking of which, Diablo II didn't need a fancy hotkey bar either; and it did just fine without it. And I'm sure if I thought about it, I could think of many other game examples that didn't use the same innovations as World of Warcraft and -still- worked perfectly without them. And because it looks so similar to World of Warcraft, I almost completely neglected the positive and unique things about this game. Such as random rift placement, which alters areas of the game, or the multi-class system. In the end I'm sure it will be a fine game that many gamers will enjoy. But I feel a lot people that are just tired of WoW will stay away from it with a twelve foot pole.In the end I just wish more developers would realize that a lot gamers are just plain sick of playing World of Warcraft. We would rather play something else. Especially after we've sunk hours, even -years- into that single game. On top of that, why would they even remotely want to look like another game? It just reminds me of that other game; and that can't be good in a business sense.
a wild BULBASAUR appeared!!! :]]
This week sucked. Was that really all the information you got?
i wonder why do they keep making more mmo's if sw:tor is gon wipe most of them all? x( game looks solid tho.
Morgan Webb? I remember her, she was your assistant or something?I have been following this MMO for ages and will try it out.
Color me unimpressed. Adding a multiclassing/multispecilizati on feature that will be underpowered to dedicated classes (Mark my words) isn't really a draw. Also, this isn't what comes to mind when I think of Dimensional Rifts and invading realities. When City of Heroes is doing a better job of having invading realities then you are,, you might want to rework your game plan.
