Abbie Heppe is in the hot seat for Feedback this week as she is joined with Eric Eckstein, J.P. Shub, and Casey Schreiner to talk about the rock gods of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and to create a deeper look at the review for Civilization V.

@17:40 Eric, you reviewed the game, but seemed to have skipped any sort of research into the franchise. Or maybe you/they wanted the game reviewed without really knowing much about the series. Whatever the case, you subtracted 9 years from the history of Civ when you said they'd been making it for 10 years...

Otherwise, nice GH/RB discussion. I wasn't feeling super crazy about GH, and this sort of reaffirms it.

I hope JP starts to become more of a regular, all of his discussions with Abbie bring pure joy to my otherwise miserable day of MW2

I can't wait to see the next big development in artificial intelligence. AI design will play a greater role than improved graphics in future games.

Reading my post makes me wonder, why G4TV.com does not have automatic spell checking programs and options in our post. LOL

Casey is my hero. Personally, I am not really that into CIV V. I am letting it get a few more patches before I start up again.

The biggest things that get me...
Is the lack of starting off civilizations and leaders. We get 12 versus the 20+ from BtS. The lack of religion and the downplay of diplomacy. The AI sticks. I still get a few CTD and it frustrates me... I get the babbling old guy that I can not skip past for the intro (half the time I can... and the other half I can not).

The hexagon and the combat is awesome! Only if the computer knew how to fight better... and moving units UP... is such a pain! I betcha the modding community will MAKE CIV V enjoyable... not Fraxis.

However, with all the flak I give CIV V... I can lose myself with the "ONE MORE TURN" syndrome.

I quite liked the discussion of AI in this Feedback, for the past number of years I have always felt underwhelmed by the AI in many games (especially the non-combat/action related AI).

Games really do seem to be getting a good grasp on the action side of AI. That said, anytime that the computer isn't trying to beat you ass into the ground it can still just be so painfully immersion breaking.

Abbie is finally hosting! Yay. Anyway it was cool to see newcomers Casey and Erik. They both did a great job. Kind of wish Casey talked a little more but there's always tomorrow! Literally I guess... And JP is back which is cool.

I have to say it's cool seeing more of the G4 staff adding their take on games in Feedback.

Awesome. Although the Guitar Hero part did pretty much devolve into Abbie vs. J.P., both Casey and Eric did really well, and I particularly enjoyed that last conversation started by the question of the week. It kind of went off into the wilderness, but it was really interesting wilderness! :D

P.S. I really wanted to like Civ V, but I played the demo a couple times and it just didn't do it for me. I'm not giving up though!

P.P.S The shoutout or ad or whatever for the MMO Report has a much different connotation after this episode... The first thing I thought was "hey, he's wearing that suit!"

Great feedback guys, I really like the changing panels, keeps things fresh.

Side note: When the Halo Reach "psych profiles" were brought up I was reminded of the following

First time using the feature, used these settings.

    Quiet
    Polite
    Team player
    good time.

With in 10 seconds of the players being found, I had a whaling 10 year old and some guy singing The Fresh prince of Bel Air theme. Once into the match my team started to lose badly, so everyone on my team quit on me. Then the other team started tea bagging me and sending me rude messages.

So pretty much every point that I asked for was negated 5 minutes in.

Also I've lost count of how many matches I've played where all my team quits and the other team is dicks about it. I have to play through though, quitting would only add to the cancer.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Regarding the proper length of a game and the investment, I prefer to equate games to movies. If you're only willing to see a movie for $5 at matinee (assume 2 hours for movies as an average) then a game would need to have solid game play for about 20 hours to be equivalent to watching movies you would enjoy. On the flip side if you're willing to drop say $12 for a weekend, IMAX, or 3D movie then you'd only need to have about 8-9 hours of solid game play for it to be equivalent. This is assuming a $50.00 price tag on the game. Changes value per price of the game in question.

Money is important to some, so the matinee price matches their economic view. While for others the money matters less so long as they get what they want, representing movies prices ranging from about $8 to $15 depending on the type, time, experience, etc...

I can't think of a better way to look at game prices than this. It's how I decide if I'm going to buy a game, and measure whether I got my money's worth in the end.

This lineup was pretty tight. It did seem weird with Casey not talking too much, but then it didn't seem like the topics were as geared towards him. Adam, Abbie, JP, and a rotating chair would be interesting to see for a while. JP's one of the more vocal seats in the past few weeks who general has interesting or humorous things to add to the conversation.

This was a good Feedback! I know not a lot of people on the Feedback crew particularly care for Kingdom Hearts, but would it hurt just to acknowledge that Birth By Sleep exists and it was pretty good? Just a "So Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep came out. It sold pretty well. Does anyone care? No? Okay let's move on." would suffice :)
