This is no response to the Internet? So why it mentioned at the start of the topic?

Well after the epic fail of her Darksiders review I have decided not to trust any of her reviews.

So if you played this game as your intro to metroid, without any knowledge of the previous titles, would the game still be considered this bad?

She made some valid points and I respect her review. I for one on the same page with her and I feel it is disservice to the fans and to the character itself with the decisions they made for the narrative for this game. They could have taken other paths with story, especially why she couldn't use her powers.

I completely agree with the g4 staff. This is complete character derailment; and worse than that, it is a really bad case of bada$$ decay. I would expect, Samus to be more like fem-Shep than a wangsty little girl. This has nothing to do with feminism; a video game icon has been desecrated.

I call it the Cluttered Judgment Syndrome. There's so many video games nowadays, it's hard to judge a video game independently without thinking about the characteristics of a previous game or franchise. i.e New Super Mario Bros Wii sucked because Halo rocked! Not every reviewer does this, but some are guilty of having a favorite franchise or neglict to acknowledge the characteristics of the franchises they're judging. Let's look at Metroid's for example: An innovative gameplay concept, High performece design and system demand,a ray of enimies and creative plot. The 1st Metroid, gave us a sandbox gameplay previously unprecedented in platformers. It's unique level design, gave the nes a huge world and sometimes in crowded rooms pushed the nes beyond it's cpu limits. Metroid 2 did alot of the same for the handheld market. Metroid 3 went way beyond the powers of the snes. The demanding disk space called for a 24 megabit eprom chip instead of the common 2 or 4 megabit. The game gave us a solid story, and twisting plot. Detailing graphics and an staple map and inventory system. Other M is the official Metroid 4 people have been dying for since 1994. In fact, it's the first 2D platforming Metroid for a home console since Metroid 3. Other M got an 8.5 by Nintendo Power, Super Metroid got a 4.25 out of 5 in 1994. Both only 3 points from their perfect scores. Super Metroid became one of the greatest 2D platformers of all time. We'll see were this game will stand in video game history 16 years from now...

I love how people who strictly only give good ratings and only care about cliche games like Halo, God of War, Warhammer, and anything for X-Box give a game like Metroid: Other M a bad review. Try to respect that maybe change is good. Just because it's not the Samus you're used to doesnt mean it deserves a bad review.

This games reviews are all over the map; I'm seeing 8.5's from both Gamespot and IGN. I really respect the reviews given by G4 and trust their judgment. However I'm feeling like this is a mixed bag in my mind on what to do? Do I rent or do I buy? 2/5 is not a good review, but everyone else is saying it's good? I just don't know what to do.....

"Morgan may have read the video review script, but I wrote it, so you can safely put thoughts of a feminist agenda aside"

This is a very disconcerting comment for a game that has unleashed many disconcerting comments. To imply that a comment is free of any feminist perspective because it was written by a male is not in any way comforting, obvious, or vindicating, Matt. Not that I've long since expected much better from this staff.

G4's review of the game is in step with the law of numbers, in that there are a few reviews in the "A-" range, as well as a few in the "D" range. This indicates, as most reviewers agree, that the game is probably within a "B-" to "B+" range. Does this make your review "wrong"? Of course not. But being an outlier is not without its indicators as well.

I'm not brutally disagreeing with G4 over a game I have not played yet. But it is absolutely no secret the tastes of each of the staff members for anyone has been paying attention throughout the years. If ratings are in the interest of the network - of which G4 puts ahead of content on its network eight days a week - Morgan's scathing vocal track was no coincidental pairing.

While Abbie has long voiced her adoration of the Metroid franchise, this actually works against the review rather than for it. Rather than fault the game for its true faults and praise it for its rather amicable ambitions, Abbie's claws dig deep into a single issue within the game while magnifying its other quirks to a grand fault. If the other staffers whole-heartedly agree with this review, I can only imagine it through a camaraderie effect long since developed and furthermore alienating to many of the now departed viewers of G4, versus a stable of coincidental outliers.

I am in absolutely NO way attempting to reflect a position that simply serves to glorify my own opinions while condemning what's left. Free speech is wonderful, and like you said, your review simply exists to inform my "purchasing decision". Where the irony is lost on you in that this also informs my "purchasing decision" of any G4 related media and its sponsors.

What if Itagaki was present? Here's hoping The Devils Third scores better.

It looks like Abbie was seriously hurt by the existence of this game. She looks so sad :O

love the image for the video used....

i'm concerned about two things with the review..... #1 that it is a 2/5 for a metroid game and not 2/5 for any standard action adventure game. #2 that they are putting too much emphasis on story for an action adventure game.

the health regeneration system is the best example of what's wrong with the review, et al. of this game. You say that it's stupid because it doesn't make any sense in the real world, or in the canon, yet you completely avoid talking about whether or not it's actually useful. Is there strategy involved? Does it make you think twice about battles?

You let your justifiable nerd rage get in the way of conveying salient information. Not helpful.

Well said Abbie. I can tell she is a a rather big Metriod fan. And I'm thinking she knows her games. I tend to like what she has to say and agree with her a lot.
Anyway, I had hopes for this game. I did, but i had a huge inkling that it was gonna lack/suck too. The Prime games were incredibly good and set the bar very high. Very well done.
The side scroll looks nice, yet the shoot to first person is kinda lame.

As for her being a winy tween is very sad. I like the silent Samus. She is tough with-out much words. As for her coming off as being told what to do by men, look were the game came from and previous games from Japan. I've been playing games for 20 some odd years, and I've noticed a sexist theme from them. It's the way of their culture. I don't agree with it and it's sad, but thats they way they are.

Good review, to the both of you! YOU'RE!!!!!! review was well perceived by this gamer.

Guys you probably forget, but the gameplay aspects of the Metroid Prime games were not Nintendo, but Retro Games, and the gameplay aspects of Other M are the staff at Team Ninja. There is to be an understanding that Team Ninja didn't want to copy the same control scheme that Retro brought in so that Other M would not be MP4 without the "Prime" label. Besides, the game's not even out to the general public yet, so don't ruin it for everyone else by saying that the game is horrible and that it should never be picked up. Honestly, I think that the more challenging a game is, the better that a person feels once they've beaten it. I rest my case.

i havent rented a nintendo franchise game in ages because its usually like oh it's zelda of course it's going to be awesome *buys game*, but this one definitely seems like a rent just to check it out, or maybe I should just ignore it and replay Fusion.
