metal gear solid 4 ending was amazing. And it tied all the lose ends and gave us gamers a satisfying ending.

There's always the really old trick of having the final boss battle and then the incredibly hurried escape from the exploding base to try and give a rapid fire and intense final feeling to the conclusion.

I loved Mass Effect 2 as a whole, definite top contender for GOTY and one of my favorite games. I wholeheartedly agree that the ending is so epic, from the point you enter the Omega 4 Relay until you fly away from the Collector Station! The drama and music that Adam talked about, along with your squad's survival in question added to the drama, and the ending was just SO epic!

I can't understand how you didn't get Legion, I knew I wanted him from the get go and even though I was Renegade, I spared him in a heartbeat! He and Thane are my favorite squad mates and I loved the final battle with them and saving them from the debris. I also loved the irony of seeing Legion catch Shepard as he leaps for the Normandy, a geth saving a human, just so beautiful.

I had lost Mordin and the crew my first playthrough of the ending and actually felt so depressed not listening to his comical comments or seeing Kelly next to the Galaxy Map, that I replayed the ending and saved everyone, making me so happy and waiting anxiously for ME 3. That's how you get emotional involvement in a game, make players want everyone to live, and that is why ME 2 is a model for game storytelling, just as much as Alan Wake, another favorite of mine and another GOTY contender!

Alan Wake is a masterpiece of storytelling, and while its ambiguous ending may have left some frustrated (like the ending of Lost for some people, not me!), I really enjoyed its open endedness and how the DLC continues the narrative on. This generation has had some great endings and some horrible (ex. The Darkness, Crackdown 2, MW 2) ones, but I really enjoyed this Soapbox and love for ME 2, great stuff Adam, great stuff!!!!!

I do love good endings and they are few and far apart in my opinion. I just finished Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the endings was --YUK--Yup, YUK sounds apropriate to me. Maybee the fact that the games major function is to be an online game so investing time and resources in a good game as far as a single player campaign goes and it's ending is not a good investment from the producers of the video game. But it's hard to really say if a games ending is good or bad due to personal taste. Maybee others found the ending of the afore mentioned game good--Now what ?

I think everyone can agree that Bungie makes some of the most epic endings of all time. Man i think a doctor would of been scared to of seen my heart rate at the end of Halo 3

Worst ending ever = Gears of Wars 2

Kingdom Hearts 1 leading up thru KH2 (remember the DS game explained what happened in between) Was the best series with a great ending. Plus Sanctuary was a great song to play during it. I literaly played kh2 for a total of 300 hours.

Well done boss fight example for Adam...Shadow of the Colossus

Also, I totally forget the Mass Effect 2 ending, which is sad because I remember it being awesome, but I've totally blanked on it.

Maybe it's because I spent too much time mining iridium on random planets...

I tend to love it when you think your at the ending and then the game takes a turn and doesn't end for another few hours or even minutes of gameplay. The only games I have ever played that have done this are:
    Kingdom Hearts
    Zelda Ocarina of time
    And Okami

Kingdom Hearts got me good. I thought I was at the ending, The final boss but, NO they added a few more just for fun.
Zelda when u fight ganon for the first time, yea u see it coming but damn was it epic.
Okami, oh u beat the last... wait he just spread throughout the land have fun. :)

I personally thought Half-Life 2 had a great ending, where the urban combat came to a big explosive finale (on the roof of the bombed-out building with the striders and gunships) and from there on out the citadel was mostly a visual spectacle, not too challenging, but really satisfying, and also having a great cliffhanger that wasn't cheap.

Red dead redemption had a good ending in my opinion. A sacrifice to save others is a great ending i wouldent b suprised if it happens in mass effect 3

I agree that Mass Effect 2 had a great ending, infact I thought it was amazing! But I don't agree that Bioshock 2 had a disapointing ending, or that the story was weak. The story for the 2nd Bioshock was just as amazing as the first, and that includes the ending. I have never wanted to beat a game so many times! not even with any of the halos (which I also love!) I think the Bioshocks are nothing short of Godly.

    In my opinion...
Best Endings of this Gen (In no particular order)
    Uncharted 2
    Halo 3
Half-Life 2 (Not any real questions answered, but it still feels right)
MGS4(Even if the plot is confusing, you cannot deny how epic the end is)

    Worst Endings
    MW1 & MW2
    Bioshock 1 & 2
    Killzone 2
GOW 3 (So many ways they could have gone after Zeus's death and they decide to go almost nowhere at all)
