The story can really make or break a game like this. As far as gameplay goes, it doesn't seem like anything new really. But hey, who isn't down to pull a Rambo on some mobsters?

The first was fantastic. The story, characters, pacing and gameplay all felt really authentic, and it's my favourite game to this day.
Don't pay attention to people that try and compare the game to GTA either, they're not the same nor are they trying to be. Mafia is ultimately a linear, mission-based experience and you don't wonder the city outside of missions - once you complete one you're taken to the next.
It's an open-world game, but it's not a sandbox.
Oh, and just to flatten the whole "Mafia tried to copy GTA 3 but poorly" routine that some people so love, Mafia went into production a year before GTA 3.

I never played the first one, so i don't know what to expect, but it looks interesting.
