The Alien Threat
Posted: July 22, 2010
Physicist Stephen Hawking recently stated that if aliens ever made their way to Earth, humanity would be in big trouble. Kevin Pereira talks to Dave Brody, Science Editor for Space.com, about why these experts believe catastrophe would come from extra-terrestrial contact. Where are the Space Marines when you need them?

Very funny discussion.
But seriously, if an advanced warlike civilization were to drop on us right now, we would not stand a chance - in that respect, Stephen Hawking is right.

Aliens would take one look at our entire civilization turn their head in disdain and spit flying away as fast as they can.(Which is probably pretty freaking fast)
Even if there is evidence of aliens do people actually believe that the government would allow that to get out? What would happen if un-deniable proof of a technologically advanced life forms visiting earth world do to the world? It would cause a global panic. The concrete realities people have created for themselves would crumble to dust. Extremely religious people would deny it out right and cling to their illogical beliefs more strongly than before. Wars, riots, panic, fear and a loss of purpose or meaning in this life, world and reality we have created for ourselves. Too know that we are not as important as we thought.
Humanity as a whole is insignificant when compared to the vastness of the universe. We are like a grain of sand on the beach of eternity yet we think that we are the tallest mountain.

With great respects to the scientific community I'd like to add a third wheel so to speak. Whether there really is a "Sky God, She Devil or Extraterrestrials" one thing is certain, humans throughout their history have behaved much like bacteria. We spread and reproduce at alarming rates, drastically affect anything we meddle with, the weather and food we eat alone can change both our behavior and appearance over time. Point?......there's more potential cause to believe WE will create our own worst fear some time in the distant future. Once Mankind can hold instead of reach the stars. With time people may not even physically be the same as they are on earth anymore. I think its the biggest potential future threat we will ever face. Not because of religion or culture or God. I think Star Trek portrayed this well with the human augments. By the way I loved Babylon 5 for a reason.
