I would love to honestly see a Shadowrun mmorpg. Microsoft really sucked some monkey butt with that last peice of crap with the Shadowrun logo attached to it. And yeah whats up with no FFXIV coverage? True FFXI was really a big pain, but at least they could let us know something about it.

Meh, beside Old Republic, the only one deserve coverage is Guildwars 2. Sadly, it's not at E3.

So in SWTOR there are 4 basic archetype characters for each good vs evil (why does most MMOs have the need to have only two factions?). Then each archetype character can chose 2 different paths or trees of skills. I would imagine (pure guessing) the republic trooper can select range tanking skills and combat skills. So thats basically, 8 characters vs 8 characters (with a bunch of Hybrids added). Lastly, companions are pets? Pets like Lord of the Rings pets that help you within skirmish? A healing pet, tanking pet, range dps pet, melee dps pet, etc?I wonder if I can be a buffer type character that can dps but is not a very good dps, but am needed because my buffs are important class?

Ok, i have respect for the star wars mmo coming out but im sorry i just keep thinking about how every time i except or turn in a quest i have to sit through a cut-scene and VO just to move on with leveling up my toon. its really the one thing turning me off to this game, Its like they took the over all formula from like mass effect threw it in a star wars setting and made it an mmo ok, well for me when i log in to play say wow i interact with my guildies they are the story the things we accomplished together or messing around in vent wiping in raids, if i want to play on a rp server for story i would, So please dont make it so the story is forced in your face with no option, it sounds like this game is more npc experience then it is with friends idk
I really don't to listen to them talk out of their collective asses.
There was something brought up in the SW: TOR interview that really piqued my interest, the idea of having multiple types of companion characters. While I remember having a multitude of different types of companions in SW: KOTOR hanging around the Ebon Hawk, I thought the idea here was to have a more personal story where your companion characters were meant to be more of a partner and not so much a trinket of sorts to swap out when "X Class is needed." However this is Bioware and given their history, especially with handling a property which has been bungled by so many other companies , I have every confidence in them knocking this one out of the park.
@UGoBoomBoomThanks for your reply on the previous thread as regards to SWTOR. I'm may not be as organized about it, but I'd like to respond to some of your points. Of course financially there's room for many MMOs. If my previous post sounded very "absolute" to you, it's only because I wanted to clarify my message. Of course nobody knows what the final product will look like until it comes out, and even then it may change as the MMO evolves.Yes AOC did claim full VO at some point, but as you can see from the above interview from SWTOR developers they claim to have several worldwide studios cranking out dialogue with "top-notch talent". Plus SWTOR is supposed to be the most expensive video game ever made to date (Sorry I forgot to add that to my bullet list). So with all that money, hard to see why they can't afford full VO throughout. EA's got deep pockets. I mean just look at the trailers. As regards the multiplayer dialogue system, I don't really see how can dispute this point either. No matter how it works in the end, it'll be a world first. I've seen one of the developers talk about it: basically your group will get to vote on some "key decisions" such as - should we kill this guy or help him out? In other parts of the dialogue you'll be able to talk without using the vote system. That's all I've heard sorry. You got some more details about the "companion characters" here too. They're not just pets in the sense that they follow you around, but they're actual CHARACTERS with their own background story, personality, strengths, weaknesses, tempers, secrets, etc. You know like Wrex or Garrus from Mass Effect. In fact Bioware has had "companion characters" in all of their great RPGs, it's just the first time they've made an appearance in an MMO (so far as I know, maybe you can correct me on this). I'll concede the point on the cover system, turns out Tabula Rasa did it first (although Tabula Rasa is gone now). So at least grant them that SWTOR will have the only cover system in an existing MMO. Still good insight though, I can tell you're very knowledgeable about MMOs - which is probably why you're so cautious to cut through the hype this game is creating.As regards the combat, I think you hit it right on the nail with "there will be a limited number of set animations, and an animation sequence will play out depending on the roll." But then you go on to downplay this feature, saying that it's "nothing more than a more polished version of old concepts." Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the very definition of a new concept? I mean you could level that criticism at ANY new innovation. For instance, You could say that 3D is just a polished version of 2D or that an MMORPG is just a polished version of an RPG.Also I don't know what "connecting" implies in your mind, but in my mind it just implies connecting and not necessarily anything more (like what the technology behind it is and whether or not it involves a physics engine). Really the name of the system doesn't matter, you could call it whatever you want. It's still innovative.Lastly, let's talk about Galaxies. You're right of course about Jedi, so let's cross that from my list. As regards to Sith though SWTOR is still a first. And yes you COULD say that about any other game (e.g. "WoW is the first game you get to play a Draenei!") but then I'd wager more people want to play Sith than want to play Draenei... or any other "original race" in any other game. That's the sole reason I included this on my list. Think about how popular Darth Vader is... now compare that to some Draenei or some Worgen or whoever else you want. Besides, having a first game where you could play a Draenei still counts as an innovation - albeit not a stellar one of course. By extension the same applies to Sith. So with all that in mind let's look at the revised list:DISCLAIMER: ALL POINTS REFLECT ALPHA BUILD - Longest, most complex story ever told in an MMO - First ever fully voiced MMO- First ever multiplayer dialogue system in any game (details still muddy)- First ever "companion characters" in an MMO- The only working MMO with a cover system- First ever believable fights in an MMO: there will be a limited number of set animations, and an animation sequence will play out depending on the roll - For the first time, play as a Sith in an MMO (if you d hate rolling a Sith, disregard this point)
