The PC version of Plants vs Zombies is my "appointment" game. I plan to sit down and play in the same fashion others would for a game such as Killzone. In fact, I've spent more hours playing it than almost anything else released over the past three years.
Although I understand that these types of games are often used for simple diversions, I think Adam's overgeneralizing in his argument.

All I could do during this video was watch the Peggle game in the back ground. I kept thinking "NO YOU FOOL DONT SHOOT THAT THERE!"
As for the iPhone games I don't see it ever being that great of a gaming device. Sure there are some really fun games on there, but a lot of them really suck. I think this may have to do with the amount of space you are given to work with. The main problem being that games have to put the controls right onto that tiny screen and anyone with normal sized thumbs is going to have problems with it.

Hey Adam, big fan of your Soapbox and Feedback.
I had a similar discussion earlier in the day about the games you were describing, the more casual "pick-up-and-play" style of games. The situational classification of the games on the Ipad and such is splitting hairs I think. They are video games just like Red Dead Redemption or those old Tiger handhelds.
Those games on those devices(Ipod/Pad) are small simple convenience games. Games you truly don't have to invest yourself in as they can be turned off just as easily as they are turned on.
You're right though. People will set time aside for console/PC games because they need to invest in the experience, while the convenience games you pick up and play not because you made time but because you had time.
The portable devices can do the convenience games very well since they are usually there when you have time no matter were you are, and I think that because they were designed so portable that the games will be limited to that concept of convenience and simplicity. Otherwise you would have to make time for them and would usually be home for that anyway.
On an unrelated note: I know you're frazzled, tired, slowly being driven mad by the preparation for the upcoming events, but I think even though it's owning you, you wouldn't trade it for anything. I know I wouldn't.
