Sometimes, we like to see what's on your mind as far as what gadgets you'd like to have reviewed. This is one of those times. This viewer-requested Gadget Pr0n focuses on the ORIGIN EON 15 Gaming Laptop, a rig that hopes to bring PCs back to their gaming roots.

What You Need To Know

  • This is one of the heaviest laptops we've reviewed.
  • It's also very thick with a utilitarian design.
  • You can get a custom paint job but they start at $160.
  • For a 15" laptop, it also has a large extended keyboard and a touch pad, in addition to its LED backlit display.
  • The keyboard is pretty easy to use, and is widely spaced. We wish it were backlit, though.
  • The touch pad is also large and multi-touch, but it has a weird smooth texture. It's probably better to use a gaming mouse anyway.
  • The display is full 1080p full HD and looks terrific.
  • It's not as big as some gaming laptops, but it doesn't seem to be a problem when playing.
  • This has some of the best specs we've seen in a gaming laptop: Intel Core i7 processor & ATI 5870 video card.
  • It's just barely the fastest we've reviewed.
  • We maxed out all the settings in Blur and it had absolutely no problem.
  • It will blow through any game on the market and should be fine for years to come.
  • As for our normal 3DMark Vantage tests, it scored the highest we've seen but only by a couple hundred points (8,421).
  • It just barely beat the Asus Stealth Fighter laptop.

Price

  • $1,620 but the one we reveiwed includes upgraded parts for around $2,400.

Rating

  • 4 Seals of Approval out of 5. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • The design is a little clunky but it's the fastest laptop we've ever seen.
