Kevin Pereira and Alison Haislip bring you a rapidfire Gadget Pr0n where they cram as many portable hard drive reviews in as possible, from the Western Digital My Passport Studio, the Verbatim Insight, the Toshiba Portable hard drive and 250 gig Seagate Replica.

320 GB Verbatim InSight

  • The unique thing about the Insight is the always on LCD that tells you how much space is left on the drive.
  • It doesn't need to be connected to see it.
  • You can rename the hard drive on the LCD.
  • It's the thinnest and lightest out of these three, but may not fit easily in a pocket.
  • It was the slowest in our speed test but not by much.
  • Overall, we still think it's a good buy at $75.00.

250 GB Seagate Replica

  • The Seagate is really easy to back up your files after a few clicks.
  • You just connect the drive, download the updated installer and it will immediately start backing up.
  • The software only works with Windows, but the drive itself is compatible with Macs.
  • It's just barely thicker and heavier than the rest of the hard drives. It may not fit comfortably in your pocket.
  • It was the fastest hard drive by only one second.
  • It's a great buy at $60.00.

640 GB Toshiba Portable Hard Drive

  • This doesn't have many features other than the large capacity.
  • It's thin, light and fast enough and will fit easily in your pocket.
  • It's a little pricey at $90.00.

500 GB Western Digital My Passport Studio

  • It has Firewire 400 and 800 connections, in addition to the USB.
  • It also includes a capacity gauge, which make it worth the extra money.
  • Firewire is two and a half times as fast as USB.
  • The capacity meter also covers up the ports so they don't get dust in them.
  • It's a little on the heavier side but fits nicely in your pocket.
  • It was right in the middle of our speed test but still fast.
  • This is probably your best bet at $100.00.
