Alan Wake is not only having trouble getting away from the dark shadows of his mind, but even he's not safe from the evils of in-game advertising.

It's like that time when they made Nathan Drake advertise five dollar foot longs.

What many people don't realize is, at this point in the game you are running through this building with the darkness one room behind you the entire time. Then when you enter the room pictured above, you are expected to take a break and watch these commercials? NOT good product placement. I could understand puttering around a cabin or someone's house... but here? When you are being attacked by a huge manifestation of the darkness? The only worse spot I could think of is actually playing it during a boss fight, like stopping the game in the middle of a battle and having the characters start blabbing on about how long batteries last or how great a car is handling. Seriously, what were they thinking? I can understand having real products in game. Wouldn't you like a racing game with real life cars that were unbiased and accurate? Not like that would happen, the best car in the game would be whatever company shelled out the most cash.

Verizon, Ford, and Microsoft all through this game, but the best thing about it is that it didn't interfere with the game like if he was wearing a Verizon T-shirt or something crazy

I'm all for in game advertising. It is a good way to generate extra revenue for projects, and adds another level or realism to a game environment....if done within the framework of the game world. Advertising is part of the human experience. It makes sense that it would exist in imaginary settings that involve human characters. The gotcha is making sure the ads fit into the game world and are not just stitched in video clips of real world ads...unless the game world mimics the real world that is. Heavy Rain is a good example of where real world ads would fit nicely. Final Fantasy is an example where you'd ruin the experience if you stitched in a real world ad. You'd have to stylize your in game ads to fit IN GAME. That's all I'm gonna say....

As long as it's too obnoxious I usually prefer actual product placement to silly sounding face products and commercials in games.

I don't normally mind product placement in games.. but Verizon was literally around every corner in this game, IT DROVE ME CRAZY!.... but other than that it was fantastic.

This is really very sad, dont u remember the amazing funny things that were on the television in the max payne games! lords and ladys, ADRESS UNKNOWN!!!! those things actully contributed to the game rather than taking away from it like this does,

    for shame remedy... for shame.

At least the ad is in a context where it would make sense. He turned on a TV, there are commercials on TV.

wow, this seems really out of place and annoying, but i feel that product placement in games is fine and makes the games a little more realistic, that is if the product placement isn't too intrusive to the game.
