I'm actually interested in StarCraft solely for it's story/universe/lore.
So if they made a game in another genre, say an FPS/TPS (a la Halo), then I'd follow it there..probably even more so, since shooters have simpler controls/mechanics to get into & learn, than an RTS.

I bought the DVD of all the cutscenes from the first Starcraft. I hope they release something like that after each pack of Starcraft II.

The attention to detail that Blizzard has for its games is one of the many reasons their franchise are so successful. Although story is almost always a part of any given RTS the only ones I've ever played specifically for the narrative are Warcraft and Starcraft. As cheestastic as C&C cutscences are they just don't carry the same emotional weight and interest but then again they serve as great excuses for featuring Udo Kier and Billy Dee Williams.
