Sex in a barn mr Sessler? I think you need to update your list of possible locations. :PAnyway I agree with freedom of speech, even if a lot of crap I hear spewed sounds more like fear mongering most days than anything else.I also agree with the law in Arizona. I'm sure as hell not supporting it, because there's no way to enforce the law without racial profiling, and any politician that says otherwise is full of it.
Adam, I don't believe the Arizona law is unconstitutional primarily because the individuals targeted by this law are not protected by the Constitution. Only US citizens have rights protected by the US Constitution. We can debate the political and racial ramifications of this law, but the fact remains that it has been the federal government's failures that have led to the situation in Arizona. If the federal government refuses to enforce laws already on the books then the states must act in their own interests which is supposed to be the welfare of their people.I also fail to see how the law, in theory, violates the 4th Amendment, but I can see how it might in practice. But then there are many things that are good in theory (Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, Socialism), but in practice they fail.
I don't really see what would be so wrong about them passing this law. As I understand it, it's to stop minors from buying M rated games. I live in Louisiana and I use to live in Texas, they checked my ID when I bought and M rated game. When I was a minor I played plenty of violent video games and I wasn't old enough to buy them. My mom got it for me, this is not going to stop minors from playing them if they want to. Minors can't buy porno either, that doesn't stop them from seeing it on the internet. The law is just saying that parents need to buy a mature game, it's not hurting me at all. It'll give them one more thing to look forward to when they get older. Kids can't gamble, smoke, drink, or buy adult rated material. Hasn't stopped them from doing any of it, it's just a bunch a legal BS so the Jack Thompson's of the world can go to sleep at night and think they accomplished something. Oh....and uh, Arizona is retarded.
I think the whole idea of video games making kids dumber is ridiculous, Video games work every part of the brain from Learning new controls, enemies moves locations etc. etc. as well as constantly working ones problem solving in order to beat the game, from strategy to predicting the next move of a enemy. Its no brain work out but its a hell alot better then TV and mind rotting shows like steven seagal law man. Also about minors playing violent games, I played violent games and I am fine. Also there are many M rated games that should be Teen like Halo.
I agree with Adam on the sales to minors thing. In high school we read some books that have graphic material. I recently read "Night" by Elie Weisel in my history class for our study of the Holocaust. That book described some terrible things, and yet we didn't need to be 18 to pick it up. So it would be bull to totally cut off M-Rated games to underage gamers.
As foolish as this law is I don't think it's a first amendment issue...but I'm not a lawyer so what do I know.my 2c:Given how little we understand of the human brain the issue of violence on it's development should always be open to debate, but to actually create litigation on it is an exercise in complete jackassery.
Great soapbox Adam.
I didnt watch the video however the intro thing says that there is a debate if games are art and should be protected under the first. However Adam also said games are not art just software... you can NOT have it both ways you cant stand on both sides of the fence in this argument.
Well said Adam, people are so paranoid about kids and video games that they don't even pay attention to the things that are worse.
Tell me again how illegal immigrants are able to "use up our social services?" These people are supposedly taking away jobs, correct? Which means that they work, and by working they pay into social security. Since illegals are NOT American citizens, can they collect on the social security money they pay into the system? Hell no. The same goes for Medicare and Medicaid, and virtually any fiat government service. Arizona should be thankful for the economic boost they get as a result of illegals paying into that ugly, dry, sorry state.
What isn't protected by free speech these days? It's too broad, in my opinion.
Leland Yee(sp) and other politicians like him just need to stop. Their arguements are papper thin at best. The one thing that really gets me though is if people know when cases like these are taken to court and the state loses, taxpayers have to pay the bill. With the economy the way it is, try telling people that the state wasted a couple hundred thousand on things like this and see the reaction you get.
"Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" -Statue of LibertyIn regards to all of the people supporting the Arizona immigration law, you need to not get hung up on the wording of the new law and instead take a look at the impact the law has. It may state that only when lawful contact is made, that an official of the state may look into the immigration status, but honestly, how many times has an officer pulled over a car just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time? How many little p.o.s. ordinances, laws and what not does the average person break during a day? Let me just put it to you this way, if an officer wants to initiate "lawful contact," they are going to find a way. This law may not have given "free reign" of harassment of Arizona's non-white population explicitly; practically, however, it does exactly that. I mean honestly, what does "suspicion of illegal immigration status" even mean? What traits does an illegal immigrant have that are so obvious, that they are easy to discern from a legal immigrant/ U.S. Citizen? No, this policy, despite saying that officers aren't allowed to use race/ethnicity as a basis for checking immigration status, I would be absolutely dumbfounded if any law official ever checked the status of a non-tanned American.Up above, I have quoted the Statue of Liberty not to point towards any flaw in a person's logic about being an American and against illegal immigration, but rather as a point to serve that it is not in America's ideal that we should stop illegal immigration in the first place. Please, come across our country lines, do what you can to make a life in America. It should be our not just our responsibility, but our privilege to accept these huddled masses "yearning to breathe free." Illegal immigration is not a problem, absurd racist ideologies masquerading as a plethora of other things are the problem. As just a good person, we should be doing everything in our power to help these poor men, women, and children, not throwing them back to the wolves from which they came.
i've watched Deadwood, Played GTA and God Of War etc and i'm 15my parents trust that i'm intelligent enough to interpret the violence and sex and all this content intelligentlyi think films, games, tv etc should all be decided if it is necessary to be viewed by a minor between the minor and his/her parentsi fear that there are a lot of ignorant people in the worldand yes i like ready and doing lots of other things other than games :P
Games < Books?!?! Blasphamy I say!!
the supreme court should be working on immigration not video games. thats what the ESRB is for
From montana... Done it in a barn before.Random factOur federal gov't needs to get more hands off.. It is lacking the qualities that George Washington Suggested over 200 years ago.
Holy crap. Adam was talking about politics...I LIKED it. If you have strong opinions about the world outside of games, Mr. Sessler, please share them. I'm sure lots of people here don't know/care for anything in the political realm, but they need to learn.
Adam, multiple times during this video my computer mysteriously went into mute and there were certain words pleeped out. I agree with you. I'm a diehard constitutionalist & alot of what the government is doing is wrong and its bigger than video games. The fact that they can do it with games means they can with anything. Its all a NWO plot, there is no left/right/. Well there is but they are two arms of the same body.
Thanks, that was very insightful.
