Feedback: Xbox 360 Wins February, Borderlands DLC, And When Is Gears of War 3?
We're back in Studio B after a long week at GDC, which we'll wrap up alongside the February NPD sales results, Epic Games' plans for 2010 and beyond, and a DLC sampler platter.

Well I am old school. And it used to be that companies would release a level editor and allow fans to make maps. For example, Quake and Unreal series had a lot of excellent user made maps. They were all free and there were tons of them, many as good or better than what came from the game developer. But then game companies decided that if they didn't allow fans to make maps they could sell them themselves with no competition. So they took away what we once had: the ability for fans to add maps to a game they like. The situation is worse now for players because there is less variety of maps to play and they have to pay for the few the company deals out. I want game companies to profit and survive, but I am unable to bring myself to pay much for maps because of this history. Unless they are doing something like all new textures or items mods, it doesn't take that much time/effort to make a new map. So it shouldn't cost very much in principle.

I definitely agree with Abbie on the COD map DLC
I'm going into game design in the future and it scares me a bit to think about the money troubles the companies I might end up working for will have.
If you enjoy the game and play the maps a lot, the stimulus package and other packs like it might help "stimulate"(hah, a pun) the game industry get back on its feet eventually.
its 15$ you spend for hours of enjoyment and the assurance that a money-black hole won't open and suck video gaming into it.

Oops. Minor typo in video and in the recap. Secret "Armory" of General Knoxx. Not "Army."

I think Heavy Rain and God of War III might finally push me to getting a PS3. Up until now they haven't had enough exclusive games to make me want to get one and I've been able to play virtually everything I wanted to on either Xbox 360 or PC. This could be the time when Sony finally has the chops in terms of exclusive titles and competitively priced console units to drive their sales through the roof.

A note on shovelware on the Wii vs the PS3
Sony doesn't hate 3rd party developers like Nintendo does. Case in point: Why didn't LucasArts know about the Wii Motionplus when they were in the middle of a lightsaber game?

Is it just me, or did Bioshock 2 seem to have the cell shaded art style, at least the drill and water effects?

Ok.. Just looked at this for a second time and I personally think dropping $15 on a map pack (PC gamer talking) is not such a bad thing.. I.W. is a company that needs to pay the developers to put out quality product.. Sure in the past PC gamers have got there bump for free but on the other hand a lot of PC game studios are closed now too.. I am a consumer, and being such I understand that a monetary transaction will probably need to take place for me to get what I want / need. I will pay it so I am not the d-bag keeping ppl from playing maps, and I will pay because there is a lot of work that goes into these maps / games and I like to show support for the artisans that are making the product.

You mentioned you thought Sony would have to make there product more competitve by dropping it price withing $50 of Wii or offer a significantly better deal. But not so long ago You mentioned the Wii sales tapering off, and as you said basiclly everyone that wants one has it. More over if it is casual gamers you are hunting it isn't the best price point that wins, it is simpley the "I want that game" factor. People have about 5 "Casual" that they liek on the Wii then you have your Zelda's, ect. In my mind with the if SOny is Wii HD why would a game creator want to make a game for Wii ST. Money makes everything go round and third party sales for the Wii are bad, so by that logic if you want a good montion control game that isn't made by Nintendo then you need a PS3 or Possibly a Xbox "I still think Natal is going to be a cancer to Microsoft" But the bottom line in my mind is that Both Microsoft and Sony have a great chance to dominate the market for the next few years while Wii is left out in the cold. Besides how many games for the Wii other than those made by Nintendo do you want to play. Wii you shall not be missed and are soon to be forgotten.

here is my problem with the 15 dollar price mark between football and track i dont have to much time to go out of my way and buy a 20 dollar 1600 microsoft point card when i try to save for upcoming videogames i can get 10 dollars and give that to my mother multiple times easy but 15 dollars is a little hard especially when ur a 15 year old illegal immigrant from canada that has to pay a 1000 dollar fee to go to montreal when u live in los angeles to become a american citizen obviously not everyone has to do this at the age of 15 or do it at all ,but i do. i havent complained but since i play alot of bc2 alot of borderlands and alot of avp i havent had much problems when only one good friend plays mw2 all the time. like i said i can get 10 bucks but i have to pay 18.50 to purchase the 1200 point map pack when u start out at zero ms points. right now i have 710 but i am getting the avp map pack and after i pay 560 ms points my point total will be low.not to to mention my mom had to deal with fraud on a debit card and now we will have to wait for a new one till i can give her that ten dollars to purchase the new maps.MY hugest problem is they way ms points work to get to the point most purchases are in the 800 to 1200 point total and they charge unevenly so u pay more or less which is really really really cheap does anyone have an opinion on this matter?

PS i am also saving for upcoming DLG like blacklight tango down and more borderlands dlc if anymore come out because i want to c if they can do better than the amazing secret armory of general knoxx.

Another wonderful, wonderful Feedback Adam, Patrick, Abbie, and Sterling. Keep it up! This is the only place I can get my G4 fix now because my cable provider doesn't provide G4 and it makes me sad. Now if I could just manage to find more time to peruse your website with all the GDC coverage ad what not.

"Now THAT is scarier than anything on Resident Evil 5!" XD
Feedback never fails to be completely awesome.

Great episode, thanks to you guys I now realize Bungie has been charging me almost 3 and a half dollars for maps. I can't believe I've spent $33.33 on the Halo 3 maps...
