they shouldn't have took out the cites that what made the game great you could take a brake and not just go threw the story mode constently the side quest was add bonus hours of endless fun along with the main story i mean come on final fantasy7 and 12 was a good 30 hour game maybe more for the slower players i for one took 100 hours playing both cause i got sidetrack on chocobo breeding or on mark hunting mission and finding cool wepeons even though i didn't really need them it the fact that you feel like you have control over what you do is what i like unlike this game where im forced to fellow the story and im not able to do anything eles why couldn't they just build off the new battleing system is great i love it but at the cost of distory what they where best known for exporation of a great world with lots of pontial to make it your own

Haven't played it yet but if it means streamline play and following through an interesting story and living that story, then I'm in. I hate the RPGs in which you have to decide what to do, then explore and explore and explore, damn that's boring. I like a movie and living that movie, ONE story, ONE adventure. And if there are little items to pickup and think about better. It is tiresome to think and track on hundreds of items and combinations, it just takes the fun out of it and makes it like you have to work instead of play. We shall see then, but it seems I'm in.

This is the first FF where if you don't plan on doing things your not interested in (Upgrading Weapons/Accessories) you won't be able to beat the chapter 10 boss. I haven't upgraded my weapon, and I see no reason to wear any of the rings unless they are status stoppers. Well I have found out the hard way you can't progress unless you do. What a crock of crap. I'm not a all encompassing player I have no interest in working the secondary upgrade system. I should be able to beat every aspect of the game without worrying about upgrading weapons and gear. The normal character building should be have been enough to take on any thing in the game. It isn't and it's a major disappointment. I didn't buy thins game just to be forced to play it the way the developer commands me to play it. Worst FF EVER!!!!

Turn based RPGs are dead. They were fun at the time but there is new technology out there and people just need to move on. In my opinion this is the best Final Fantasy in the series. Unlike everybody else I like the fact that there are no towns. I like little exploration and weapons, It feels like a more streamlined game to me. You can always play FF7 or 10 on your older consoles and yes they were good games but that type of gameplay style needs to die. Things evolve and I like the way this game did it. Go ahead and give me a thumbs down, I know I'm the minority here but it's my honest feelings about the genre that I loved so much.

if (and that's a BIG if) they remake FF7, the battle system should be similar to this one but more intense. that would be awesome. omnislash ftw.

I believe FFXIII Versus is going to be the next non-MMO game, not FFXV.

Now i'm conficted, it does sound like they removed a lot of the things I played FF for. So I guess it's in my rental catagory, atleast for now.

and is it just me or was this review slowly putting Sterling to sleep (watch him)lol

What it seems like to me is that ff franchise wanted to kick some life into their game by reinventing a few things so what if there's no cities or blah blah blah...sit down play the game for what it was meant to be NOT another typical what you'd expect from final fantasy...at least it shows they still have some creativity...and is it me or are ff fans the ones who've been complaining the most?

Only advice I can give is just play the game and see how you feel and if you agree with him and saying "hey game's got issues but it's fun" than all the power to you but pretending that his opinion is somehow invalid or that he's wrong because you're not having fun is pretty naive. I'm having a lot of fun with it and I've been playing FF games since 1997-1998 and have played 1-6 so honestly just give it a shot and play through it and if you don't like it, play something else

It seems like he's just making excuses for the game. I've rented this and so far it seems pretty over rated.

I feel for anyone trying to explain the pros and cons of this game to anyone who hasn't played deep into it. It does have very good pros and also some cons, but very hard to explain them to someone who hasn't experienced them. It reminds me a little bit of some of the disappointment that I had with ME2. I mean ME2 was a great game, but I wish they had done some things more inline with traditional rpg methods.
