Not to bash or seem like a fanboy (since I would be indiscriminate/equally discriminate of an XBox 360 exclusive, or any other game), but I'm kind of glad that God of War 3 is out now, 'cause I kindof got tired of the overdone coverage its received & all the hype that built up around said coverage of it.
Its received more coverage than all the other games close to it's release window (in terms of being within the same month).
I understand it's the 3rd/final game in the trilogy, which warrants the usual grandiose hype & coverage, but the coverage for this was even far more than the usual coverage for the 3rd installment of other franchises of similar quality & magnitude.
I don't doubt the game's awesomeness, but there were just so many "post-reaction" vids discussing the game.
And the saturation of it's coverage was so much so, that they even made a music video out of it. (not to say that the music video wasn't any good, quite the contrary; just saying)

I'm not hating on the game, 'cause I think its awesome, but I guess I've just seen too many articles on it to tolerate coverage beyond my threshold for it.

In other words, I'm drowning from over-stimulation.

    [Here' comes the "hater-ade"..]

Personal Opinion on GOW - Dante's Inferno Comparisons

I have played the first two GOW games and loved them. It is no surprise that on the PS3 GOW3 is better than its predecessors. I do not own a PS3 so I will not be playing GOW3 in the foreseeable future. At some point I will get around to it I am sure.

However this is my personal opinion, not sarcasm, not a bash of G4, Adam, or Xplay.

I have played Dante's Inferno and thought that it was a great game. It is very apparent that it relies heavily on GOW mechanics. But I felt that the differences in the story and overall game design far outweighed the perceived negative comparison to GOW series. I do not feel that Dante's Inferno is a GOW clone in any sense other than the fighting mechanics. I also (and here's a touchy subject) do not agree with the score. I would have been more inclined myself to give Dante a solid 4/5. From everything that I can gather GOW3 is one of the best games ever and deserving of a 5/5. I would not argue that without first playing it myself.

I would also like to point out that many games could be compared in the same fashion as these are. It's like comparing Zelda, Mario, (NES) to all the wanna be games that followed in their wake. If I created a game and it was compared to a blockbuster title I would be ecstatic. Because even if it was not perfect I new I had a winning formula to create a sequel. I hope that Visceral and EA can fine tune and tweak a sequel in the future.

I want to point out that some have complained Dante's Inferno does not follow the mythos and books literally. If you download the developers diaries from XBOX Live in one of them they say plain and simply that they had never intended too.

I have been out of town for a few weeks so I haven't been checking the posts. If this has already been debated I'm sorry for wasting your time.
If you have any input please send me a reply.

It's too bad that Sony can't figure out how to meet the demand for their PS3 consoles. I finally came across the cash to purchase one (specifically so I could play GOW3), but no one has any PS3s in stock. I'm wondering how much longer it's going to be before consoles start to appear on the store shelves again.

God of War is an incredible series of games; the best I've ever played in fact. This new installment looks absolutely breathtaking. A lot of other games I'm able to pass up, but when this comes out Tuesday, not having my hands on a PS3 is going to hurt.

@ccruse1112 I tried to reply to your post above but it didn't seem to want to work so I'll post it here-

As said above Kratos the character is not black, but the guy who does his voice is. Unless I'm very mistaken, he was Spartan and from what I just read on wiki Spartans were local greeks who were subjugated by the Dorians, who are also from elsewhere in greece. I would love to see more prominance of minorities in video games, but it looks like for now we only have Bayanetta to look up to as a strong female rolemodel and at least thats something...

I'm sure GoWIII is great and I hope to god it meets the high expectations I now have after reading all these glowing reviews...But, I really think Adam needs to stop being so glowingly congratualatory of every game that comes out and development team that does well and hell, even of himself as part of the gaming industry. It just rings really hollow in my ears and I would love him to just say once something like, I had such high hopes for such and such AAA game but such and such the AAA developer really botched it... you guys are the worst game developers on the planet and I wish you would go away! I'm all for encouragement, but when he said that he thought the game was short- maybe about ten hours, but it turned out to be more like twelve because he got stuck on the final boss fight and that just goes to show how wonderful their pacing is, I just had to chuckle... Please Adam, stop being such a kiss-up. Ten or twelve hours- its still really short.

Adam, your Soapboxes are the reason I come to G4tv.com. They are always insightful, intelligent, whitty, and, most importantly, honest. Without you, there simply would be no G4. I respect your opinion more than any other figure in the gaming press.

    I love you man!!

Um, Kratos isn't black. He's supposed to be Greek (Spartan). He's just voiced by a black man.

One thing that disappoints me when people talk about GoW3 is no one talks about the significance of Kratos as of the few leading characters in gaming of African decent. Its rare to have black characters in games and when they are in a video game they are usually based on real life people (sports games, rappers, etc), or are in supporting roles (Cole Train from Gears of War) and are represented in very stereotypical ways. There have been some games like Grand Theft Auto:SA or Left 4 Dead 2 that have main characters of African decent but these games do it to add authenticity to the story they are telling (GTA:SA would not have worked as a 90s era West Coast gang story without an African American lead character, and L4D2 would have fell flat as a New Orleans setting without black survivors). But games of pure fantasy like GoW generally have nothing to gain by having a diverse main character, and thats why you usually get very cookie cutter characters that fit into some lame archetype of what a video game lead character is (see War from Darksiders), and Kratos is one of the few lead characters that breaks this trend and proves that video game leads can be diverse, people will love them, and buy their game, if the game is good.
