Someone in LA complaining about being cold while DC is up to their necks in snow, how cute!!

Sorry about the jab, but somebody had to do it....

"Cloning" gameplay is fine, as long as you make enough tweaks and changes that it still feel original and fresh, I'm just going to come out and say that absolutely no form of media is free from imitation, these imitations can range from obscure references to outright "cloning". One could say every Metroid game is a "clone" of the original, or that every Halo is a "clone" of Doom or Wolfenstein 3D. certain games can throw this out the window such as Katamari, but they themselves than get "cloned" by sequels or spinoffs. So in closing I just want to make one thing abundantly clear, "cloning" in any media is impossible because almost everything has been done at least once somewhere at some point in time.

It's like that kid who copies off someones paper, just not through the whole test he wants to make some of his answers different than the kid he's sitting next to,even if he knows his answers are wrong. It's like copying off someones paper, but also going your own way so you don't feel an exact copy of,I've played this game before,or have I?Every game nowadays copies from some other game in gameplay or sytle one way or another.

Brace yourselves America because come spring of this year we'll be at ANOTHER heated cloning debate of Quantum Theory and ITS semblance to another three-letter title.

GOW (God of War) Playstation exclusive versus Dante's Inferno; and in spring, GOW (Gears of War) Xbox 360 exclusive versus Quantum Theory. Awesome coincidence and an interesting turn of events. Can't wait for spring!

very well said adam... i love the god of war series but it's been i while since i have played them (being that the last one i played, Chains of Olympus i beat in 2 days and never played again) so i really liked this game Dante's Inferno, even though it was a "clone" i think it still had enough things in it that made it different from GOW and it was a really good game to give me my hack and slash fix until GOW 3 came out but idk thats just me

Controversy breeds discussion as much as discussion will breed controversy...but discussion about controversy of discussion breeds some kind of mentally inept monkeys! So let's all eat our d----soup in quiet.

Are not all games clones of each other? Did Ratchet and Clank, Banjo K, Jak and D, all clone Mario 64? Didn't Geometry Wars clone Robotron? Didn't Blizzard clone Warhammer universe and Dune II RTS gameplay? Didn't Splinter Cell clone Metal Gear? The list goes on...

Even "original" games are just a collection of micro-clones of many other smaller parts, including movies, books, and other mediums.

wasn't god of war a clone of devil may cry i mean you can go on about what cloned what but yes i never played gow becasue i liked dmc so i skipped gow but didn't they had the same clone feature with streetfighter and snk and thsoe type of games so if someone can make it better or fail clones are a way to make a game with less thought and losing money that being inovative and falling flat i also herd that a lot of games that do fall flat was not complete becasue of time and the producer don't allow them to put too much stuff in the game hints dmc 1 and bayonetta thats what dmc could have been which dmc isi pretty gud but this site isn't the only one that rate games some go for graphic gameplay story and desin but yes i can't talk bad about gow cause i never played it so i guess u feel clone i understand y you would say that

Alright everyone lets settle down and really look at the core of this supposed "problem."(notice the bunny ears) GOW and Dante's will be compared up and down all day long till hell freezes over, but is it really that bad when a developer mimics ideas into another story and another game? I think not. The industry is always going to have those big games that revolutionized the way we play and the mechanics that are used. Thinking as a developer, instead of throwing those tools away and starting from scratch, why not use them as a leaping platform for a new title with a unique twist on an age old tale about a poet. I endorse these ideals openly, and why not?

If you wanna bark and gripe all day, please be my guest. But when really look at Dante's, you will see an inventive idea that takes aspects of the games we love and mashes them together into a fresh story for new crowds to enjoy. Not all of us have played GOW ,myself excluded, I love GOW and the game play it invented. New gamers come into our world everyday and I think this title has a lot of potential with the numerous DLC packages slatted once a month for about the next 3 months after release makes this titles shelf life last.

Rent or buy? I say definitely give this title a rent for sure, and on the flip side with all the DLC in the future this game justifies its sixty dollar price tag. I could be wrong, but that's just my opinion.

I am a hudge God Of War fan. It was the main reason I chose to buy a PS3. I bought Dante`s Inferno, and I like it. The graphics are great, the controls are awsome, that music blows me away. I love how each `Circle of Hell`is a theme level. Yes it is a clone game, honestly, which game isn`t? It still had some of it`s own idea`s that they tried at least to seperate it from GOW.

    I`d give it a 4/5.

I'm not sure if I can articulate this without sounding obstinate. But here goes nothing. Adam, given your take on comment sections on websites later to run a short pushing Feedback, I'm a touch curious why you reference user comments during Feedback at all. I'm not going to delve into your dick soup, I've just had lunch, but I've read a great many valid comments and arguments on various sites as I assume you have. I believe I can also state we've both skimmed by a less then pleasurable amount of bickering in the form of argument. The "my dad can beat-up your dad" formulation is classic, after all. So, why reiterate the small-minded. In an attempt to keep the brownie batter from the ridge of my nose, I'll leave your ego at it's current size. But I respect you as much as one man can via the cold void we call the internet for your intelligence and dedication. For that reason, I feel there is no need to expand of the concepts of subjectivity, objectivity, definition, and connotation. However, be mindful of psychological phenomenon called "effort justification" the next time someone arrogantly disagrees with your valuation of a product. And try not to be snide or become cynical yourself. Turning the other cheek is a principle we all have yet to fully assimilate.

So...is like God of War? Hm, I did see some similarities and familiarity in God of War when I [played the Demo so I guess is something like that?

I got a question, for you gaming enthusiasists out there.

While I thought the game was "O.K", it didn't feel like God of War. It felt more like a wanna be, more like a game it try to imitate it. When you play God of War, the character plays and controls much of your environment. Kratos, even the name itself, makes you wanna kill and murder people, after all, a lil Greek Mythology doesn't hurt either.

So in Dante's Inferno, does it have that stigma to it as well? Does it have that action and drama? Most importantly, does it have that sense of well-being, for example? Because when people think of the game, it thinks of the poem, that's the first categorization that comes and people who are familiar with the poem, might just expect enough of it.

To have style, distinct, personality, etc. So, does Dante's Inferno have that? Does it? Does it have mystique?

I don't know if it feels like God of War(do believe that's just an awful comparison) but I would like to know if the game matches the description of what you were told. Put it this way. If a friend introduces you to a girl who he says is nice, sexy, smart, etc, wouldn't you expect her to be like that when you first meet her? Is that how Dante's Inferno is? Is it based on the description we have about the game and style? Does it meet expectation?

Is like me saying Call of Duty is a nice cloning game from Halo but we know that ain't true at all.

Thats funny lpgood, God of War 2.5 is exactly what I told my roomate last night when he saw me playing it. Still a fun game but Adam's right; you can't NOT think about GoW while playing it.

That said; 'bout the comment section comment.........this site does have a very good system for crappy posts becoming hidden with the rating system. There's alot worse...........Adam......no need to insult ALL your viewers..........some of us actually have worthwhile opinions.......don't let the asses overshadow us in your view of the comment section.............

I get that comments sections aren't always a beacon of light, often full of shut-ins intent on justifying their own tastes and values over engaging in critical conversation, but that's not everyone. So maybe take the good with the bad. Think of us as "The Gods," the lower class audience in the balcony of "Les Enfants du Paradis." We may often be more Tracy Lord and less Audre Lorde, but we try to keep you honest. Also, WHY DIDNT U GIVE RYGAR A 5 OUTA 5 U STINK!

If I remember right the last game people were all angry about comparisons was Shadow Complex to "Metroidvania". But with Shadow Complex it added new features to the formula that made it better, whereas Dante's Inferno did not.add things to make it much better. Not that Dante's Inferno was bad, I've enjoyed what I've played but it doesn't do anything new.

When are people going to stop being so offended every time a reviewer is even the slightest bit critical about certain aspects of a game? He is a critic people, its his job to be discerning! Even if you don't agree with what a critic may say about something, you usually gain perspective from their opinions.

Bottom line: A reviewers duty is not to appease his audience by telling them what THEY want to hear, he tells us what HE THINKS & how HE FEELS, and whether you agree with his assessments or not, we are all better off hearing an honest opinion.

What G4 needs to do is clone an army of Sessler's, then turn them loose on the gaming populace!
