How he described the game is how I'm always thinking about games when I play them " Under my medication".

I downloaded the demo and thought it was pretty insane. I can't wait to buy it. However like everyone else its always exciting to play a new game, to play with the combat system, upgrade n what not. I got that feeling playing Devil May Cry, as well as God of War, but since them the only game with a battle system that I never wanted to stop playing has been Batman AA. Despite the fact that I love batman, and the story was so fun to experience and to share with my favorite Dark Knight, you put any other skin over the guts and insides of that combat system and I'm always coming back for more.

My point being that if the battle system is made well enough to where it can be replayed over and over and always leaves you wanting more and more, just to get that extra combo bonus or what have you, then its done something that few games have ever, and im sure will never accomplish. I hope it delivers and beleive me, hearing from Adam that he loved it gives me high hopes.

BTW Adam, tell me you love GRID as much as I do, arguably one of the best Racing games EVER!!

Haha I'm glad someone else enjoyed the rediculous story! If nothing else the story just keeps escalating and escalating and the game somehow pays off with an insane end boss and it's just never over when you think it's over. I believe Adam, you did a soapbox on just that complaint that games can't deliver on the build up in the final act. This one did it, don't you think? I mean....

    SPOILER ALERT

A motorcycle rescue in space where you fight a deity who keeps changing your stage/environment and you eventually knock across the galaxy into the sun set to exciting piano music and ending with goofy jazz/jpop. How twould a sequel (which I hope there is), top that? lol

Glad you got around to playing it Adam.
I was broken hearted when this originally got delayed, had been looking forward to it, I could see the potential, and I was disappointed.

Part of what makes this game such a joy to play outside of the art and great combat is the fact that it is so over the top, Over the last decade or so everything has suddenly had the need to become more gritty and dark and thats what we are immersed in whether it's video games, movies or whatever, So yeah over the top, fantastic and imaginative is a nice change of pace.

I get a kick out of the weird story as well.

I totally agree with everything! This game is exceptional and totally surprised me. I also don't see the sexism. Bayonetta obviously exploded from the imaginations of Japanese perverts, but she seems to know how ridiculous she is. My girlfriend even loves this game!

I've heard good news so this isn't surprising. It's on my list to grab eventually. Seriously between Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 I'm not going to be able to get many games lately.

Bayonetta is so great it can even make Adam love its cheesy Japanese-ness. Great soapbox, Adam! Glad to see this fantastic action game getting the recognition it deserves. To bad when the 2010 game awards come around everyone will be too busy creaming themselves over GoW3's graphics to remember that Bayonetta has the best combat of any action game.

I'd have to say I've only played the demo, but if the demo is indication, I completely agree with you. And this coming from somebody who is completely in the dark as to why Devil May Cry is so popular. I've played 1 and 3, this kind of stale Japanese approach to things that Sessler mentioned, I felt that it was all too present in those games. Yeah, sure, Dante was flipping around, doing crazy stuff, but it was still a really effeminate looking dude with a big sword doing physically impossible acts of violence. Tell me you haven't seen that a billion times in anime. I dare you. Now, a witch with a hair suit, summoning a giant hair dragon to finish off some of the larger enemies? Now that's cool.

This has nothing to do with the article but i do agree but i have a question about this years releases With games like
    halo reach
    Crysis 2
    Spec Ops the line
    Bad Company 2
    the MEDAL OF HONOR REVAMP
all the downloadable content and games coming out
    as well as MAG
    Mass EFFECT 2
    Bioshock 2
    Rage
    FF13
    APB
and in my opinion the sleeper hit metro 2033
how is a new call of duty game that treyarch started development in may of 2009 on and should come out this holiday gain sells other than the fact that its call of duty.

So he likes the game...but Adam....I missed the existentialist perspective on what this game means in terms of game marketing and design. (Isn't that what you usally like to do?) So you like the game...but the game's sexual overtones, toung-in-cheek as they may be, make it difficult to market to a specific/mass audience and it's overall wackiness set it apart from a dark Ninja Gaidenest or macabre Devil May Cry.

I think one lesson for developers to pull away (yes I own the game) is how fluid, fresh, and fair the combat system feels and how the enemies generally feel purposefully placed and meaningful although this title remains in essence a brawler. That is to say, that I haven't had a moment playing the game where I felt, "Gosh, here are those pesky angels again attacking me in pairs because the designers feel it will be a welcome destraction while they send ______ after me to really see how fast i can mash these buttons."

well adam unlike you i do find bayonetta attractive and i would not mind being with her if you know what i mean, but that attraction probably comes from my love of hentai (anime porn) for you none jnerds oh and i also love the soundtrack.

I can't say I find bayo very attractive either, because she's way too over the top and way to sexualized that she sure as hell doesn't seem to have much realism to her. It's like somebody hit their weed stash and smoked way too much of it and this was the result.

Actually her over the top sexualization kind of throws me off just a tad. I'm used to women being used in the fashion, but this game seems to take that dimension of the character and just beats you over the head with it. I'd personally prefer a female lead that simply kicked ass and looked good doing it, minus the excessive sex shoved at you. But that's me, I prefer a character that has more than one side to them.

As for the actual game I'll admit I wasn't going to give this game a shot. I like DMC, and that's about it. I've never been a huge fan of the action titles, and God of War never wow'd me. Still not sure if I'll bother renting the title. We'll have to see how things go down the road. I'm glad Adam could find some enjoyment from the title though. :)

there is a great article about this game and why the sexuality of the main character is disturbing or frightening and offensive to some men. note that she was designed by a woman and that the story is a symbol of the pressure on women to hide themselves and escaping from it. it's a good story. I really think that this open attitude can benefit society and relieve unnecessary stress on children

I need to say this right out of the gate, you don't find Bayonetta attractive? Weird, very weird, but here is the thing, this game is fun. The the bosses are challenging, and the combat is nice. There are A LOT of left field things in this game. I was finishing chapter 6 (or 7) and my roommate was watching me play, and there was some crazy dialogue that made me reference Katamari Damacy to him -> that's when you know it's a strange game. This game is sex and killing, that's all, but for some reason I don't like it when a game character, as high res as this one is, is so hot because I'm repeatedly getting horny, I'm dead serious. To me, she is the second hottest video game character, next to the Playboy Bloodrayne. I also don't find it that addicting, but so far it's a crazy play.

I'm actually pretty surprised that a game like this is getting such good ratings across the board. Over the last few years the Hack-N'-Slasher/ Beat Em' Up genre has really been in decline, mostly because games that focus on only one type of gameplay are often considered bland or uncreative. Aside from God of War and Devil May Cry I really have a hard time thinking of any other games or franchises that were nearly pure combat and little else, and the latest Devil May Cry game wasn't even good. Even the recently released Darksiders, which is predominately advertised as a Hack N' Slasher, was almost 50% puzzle. Games that are so focused on only one aspect usually don't do well, so I'm impressed Bayonette is getting such wonderful hype considering its one-lane gameplay.

The magical part of it is that even if you are tired of playing Bayonetta,
you still want to play it.

But all in all it is a great satisfying game and everyone should have a taste of it. You will not be dissapointed.

As an avid DMC fan, I've been looking forward to this for a while, glad to hear it turned out so good. I'm gonna have to scrape together the cash to buy this one soon, no doubt about it.

Thanks for giving it the endorsement it seems to deserve, Adam!
